  1. There's some huge storms forming, absolutely gobsmacked watching it all
  2. Loving your updates here, this is one of my bucket list things to do.
  3. Lovely day in Banchory, was out chatting to a neighbour while handing over a parcel to her and the sun felt warm kn my back. Nothing to do today except wait for the RAC to turn up to get my car going again, or at very least, get it towed to the garage...seems not having driven it much in the last 12 weeks hadn’t been good for it. On the upside, I’ve now been fully discharged from the hospital and given the green light to get behind the wheel once more. Currently 12.9c and climbing after an overnight low of 5.3c. Once car is fixed, I’ll take dogs for a decent walk and make the most of it.
  4. Pretty decent day on Deeside today, only spoiled by the rugby result. High of 12.8c following an overnight low of 1.4c and currently 6.6c. Gritter drove past when son and I were out with the dogs about an hour ago. I do love how the setting sun gives everything a golden glow at this time of year.
  5. As others have said, a cloudy start cleared away to leave a largely sunny day. Dogs were out and in like proverbial Yo-Yos and it didn’t feel as chilly as it has done. Looked to be another lovely sunset but houses round about block the view at this time of year. Roll on Friday when I finish for two weeks holiday, let’s hope it continues relatively settled so I can get the garden spruced up for spring. Currently 1.6c so clouds must have rolled in as we had dropped below freezing earlier this evening. Daytime high was 8.7c.
  6. I shouldn’t laugh but my ex father-in-law had a motor bike with sidecar when my ex and his brother were born, shame they didn’t have baby on board plates in the early 60s. They went all over in that, including a holiday to Ireland apparently.
  7. After a clear night and a fantastic view of the ‘snow’ full moon rising, woke up to a frost and beautiful sunrise. Overnight low of -0.9c but temperature rose fairly quickly to reach a high (according to my station) of 18.9c. Think I might need to look into changing it as none of the other stations around here recorded anything as high. It’ll be interesting to see what the Beeb says on the evening news. Son accompanied me on my dog walk wearing just shorts and a t-shirt, however being the responsible parent that I am, I put a gilet on over my jumper. The sun was warm on my back though and I was almost tempted to take said gilet off...almost, but not quite.
  8. Lovely trip over to Inverurie when I got a call from the vets there to say that my cat had been handed in after 10 weeks on the run - Banchory is around 20 miles from Inverurie I think. He's now enjoying lockdown 2021 feline edition! Some fantastic cloudscapes at sunset but as I was in the car, I wasn't able to take any photos I'm afraid. High today of 13.0c to go with the clear skies but fallen away to 1.9c now, lowest temperature of the week so far. Ground is drying out nicely, fingers crossed that continues.
  9. Beautiful day on Deeside today, marsh in the back garden is drying out thanks I think to the strong winds overnight. High today reached 13.1c, so in the space of 10 days, between the high and low that my weather station recorded, there was a 27c difference! Mind-boggling!
  10. Crap day here too and all bar a stubborn wee patch of snow now gone. Sadly tho, the ground is absolutely sodden underfoot and was squelching when I was out clearing up after the dogs and refilling feeders yesterday. I think a lot of work is going to be needed once it’s dried out again. I’ll live in hope of a few more frosty nights to help me out. 5.8c, up from 3.1c overnight, wind speed around 6km from the NW.
  11. I'm now really worried as I was first in the queue! @Blitzen that's the type of sling I had and I actually quite liked it, great for stowing dog treats and my mobile phone in when I was moving about. Traditional triangular sling put too much pressure on my neck. However, all slings now consigned to the cupboard. Back to the weather, snow still holding on in the garden but even the dogs' ice speedway is beginning to disintegrate at last, it's hung on since before Christmas so it's done well. Dread to think what state the grass is in underneath it. Overnight low of 2.9c, daytime high of 9.4c, currently 6.3c. Reasonably ok day, although there was a shower of rain before dawn and windy through daylight hours.
  12. Happy 50th @Cheggers hope you've not drunk yourself dry yet. @Hairy Celt, @Blitzen and @Puffy MacCloud hope you're all healing well. It it's any consolation, I had my first official physio appointment by phone today. You've got to be a certain type of person to dish out those exercises I think! Spent the rest of the day aided by pain relief after being made to move my shoulder in ways that are just not natural but are apparently necessary to stop me seizing up entirely. Seriously feeling my 50+ years this evening despite trying to kid myself I'm still in my 20s. On a weather note, snow considerably less than at lunchtime thanks to reaching a high of 13.3 mid afternoon. Now fallen to 4.4c with barely any wind. Even the lumps of snow in the street have shrunk by quite a bit today. All the pathways round the house are pretty much dry too which I wasn't expecting.
  13. Positively spring-like here today tho there is still snow lying in my garden but little bits of green starting to show through. Overnight low of 6.1c, currently 11.1c with sunshine and a little patchy cloud. Photos for comparison - last night around 10.30, this morning at 10am and just now, a this rate, other than the ice speedway, it’ll all be gone by bedtime.
  14. As expected, the lying snow got a real scare today in Banchory. Car roof fully visible again, patio table very nearly clear but grass still has a fair bit lying and will do for a while yet I think. At least there was no danger of ice on the back step this morning, it was a treat to go out to do my recycling without being nervous about causing myself more damage! Hope everyone that’s suffered weather related injuries are recovering/healing well. High today of 9.0c, low was 1.8c in the early hours and currently 4.2c. House was like an oven overnight but managed to adjust it thru the day. @Quinach you can say goodbye to any more snow now that @Mair Snaw will be your neighbour
  15. Temperature steadily rising, now 4.2c/2.8c and 91% humidity, I expect the lying snow will get a decent scare overnight and there will be quite a bit less lying in the morning. At least it means I shouldn’t get woken up by icicles falling again.
  16. Shower of something overnight as the cars have the remains on their windscreens. This is my snow shovel this morning having sat under the melting icicles, a number of which crashed down in the early hours. Thaw under way as the snow looks reduced in the garden and temperatures now at 1.4c/-0.4c, 88% humidity, wind mainly from the west.
  17. Bitterly cold but sunny walk with the dogs earlier, now sat with a bramble gin watching the Scotland v Wales game. Nice to see the snow showers feeding through Murrayfield in the last hurrah for this cold spell. 0.9c/-5.2c, 64% humidity, wind from SSW
  18. Yes, I’ve not really had a chance to enjoy it outdoors this winter, but had a great walk in it this afternoon.
  19. Saw a neighbour shovelling snow and there was plenty blowing when he launched it towards his pile so still seems loose enough here, certainly what fell last night was very powdery when I cleared the path in the back garden before I went to bed. No idea what wind speed I’ve got as my anemometer has stopped recording for some reason, so today’s job is to investigate. However, it sounds like it’s howling thru the trees so more than a breeze ?? Edit: just checked and it has decided to work again so must have been a build up of snow on it that was stopping it from birling round. Currently 0.8c/-4.2c, 70% humidity and it’s saying wind speed around 5km/h but I think that must be wrong? Off to check what other stations are recording around here.
  20. Love this Where did you find this? I have a colleague who lives there that I think needs to see this. Edited to say snow’s back on again and cars that are coming into my street are struggling far more tonight than they’ve done all week. Neighbours having to dig others out. 0.6c/-1.0c 89% humidity.
  21. Snow just started falling lightly in Banchory once again.
  22. They’re not the only ones, residents in the new houses at Hill of Banchory haven’t seen council or factors for days, each saying it’s not their responsibility. 0.5c/-4.1c in the garden just now and a further 4cm of snow overnight. Cracking icicle hanging from the down pipe next to my bedroom window, will need to get son to climb a ladder and inspect joint of that connector once the snow’s all off the roof Happy Friday everyone, it’s back to another day of agricultural financial budget training for me let’s hope we get some more snow falling to cheer me up! Edit to add, there was a helluva rise in temperature in the early hours in a very short timespan!
  23. -4.0c/-5.1c in Banchory and snow was just starting yo come on as I headed to bed an hour ago. Not tempting fate by looking out the window but hope I’m pleasantly surprised in the morning.
  24. Currently -2.2c/-5.2c in Banchory. Fair few icicles dangling and dripping from both the front (south facing) and back of the house. Fairly sure we must have had icicles in 2018 but at the moment, these ones aren’t rivalling the 2010/11 ones for size. Happy birthday @Mair Snawhope you’re having a braw day! @Blitzenhope you’re not too sore today.
  25. Morning everyone. Woken to a balmy -13.5c/-15.4c this morning, wonder if it’ll drop any lower?
