Here are some pictures I took of yesterday's floods: http://www.flickr.com/photos/95346693@N00/...57600937975327/ -
Looking at the latest radar it seems that the rain is developing and swinging round, now currently in Wales? Could it visit us here again? I hope not. Here are some photos I took of yesterday's flooding. I couldn't upload them to NW because with the 1-at-a-time upload it takes forever: http://www.flickr.com/photos/95346693@N00/...57600937975327/

Flood damage reports.

Great pics Jane! Looks pretty severe down there. I visited Tirley and Apperley this morning on my bike to see how bad the floods were. I was going to go over to Tewkesbury but there wasn't time and I thought more people will go there and take pictures than to Tirley! Well a large expanse of fields and countryside was flooded and there were a couple of houses flooded on the A4019 around the Uckington/Knightsbridge area (on the way). The worst flooding was off the side just approaching the M5 turnoff on that road, where it seemed that many houses in the area were flooded (I'll check the map and find out where). EDIT: Here's where and I've circled the worst flooded bit: It looks as though the flood waters had receded in Tirley but it must've been bad; foul-smelling silt was coating the road and subsequently covered me and my bike! A pretty miserable ride to be honest - icky weather and it was drizzling heavily / moderate rain most of the way. I had a quick look at the River Chelt on PE way on the way back and it has receded A LOT since yesterday - when I looked yesterday it was about 1-2ft from road level. Now, it's receded about 5-6ft... almost back to the stream it always used to be! I did take some pictures, i'll upload later. -
"Cheltenham witnessed its worst deluge for more than 30 years.More than 6cm of rain fell on the town between 9am and 3pm, and the Environment Agency reckoned the total rainfall over the 24-hour period could be more than 18cm." EIGHTEEN!!!! 180mm B) exaggeration? possibly but based on the flooding we had it's not impossible

Flood damage reports.

Cheltenham pretty badly hit, if anyone's interested I'm just about to upload some pics onto facebook - it's just easier as I can upload everything at once faster. I'll show you the link when they're up. The unbelievable thing was that our flood defenses - those meant to cope with a 1 in 400 year flood - overflowed and caused chaos for the people living next to it and the A40! Also unbelievable pics of the Golden Valley from the BBC Gloucs site showing it under several inches of water. I should think we got at least 100mm rain, and 115mm at Brize Norton sounds about right; it's about 20mi from here. The River Severn'll be bad because there was a lot of rain in that area and it's all coming down from the North and everywhere which was raining into the night! ...So I'll be out to inspect that later. -
No; it is flooded but not so badly (about a foot deep) just by the GCHQ on the entrance to Cheltenham and at that section that I showed on the photographs... I was going to go further but when I got to that massive area of flooding I'd seen enough - it was pretty impassable, and with the flood defenses overflowing it would have risen quickly. I just hope noone's been hurt.

I think these four pictures sum up today perfectly. The first is a car which got stuck trying to go under a road bridge (ages ago - it'll be impassable now) The second... is the river Chelt where our newly installed flood defenses have just overflowed. The third is a friend's garden which was unbelievable. The fourth is the A40 between Sandford road roundabout and Hailes crossing where the overflowing defenses have completely washed out the road and caused gridlock and breakdowns. Everyone I have spoken to describes this as worse than the June floods (the barrier never overflowed then) and the worst they've ever seen.

WOW! All I can say is WOW The most torrential rain... despite having all my waterproofs they didn't work and I got soaked! water up to my knees (well probably deeper but that's as far as I went)... and the river Chelt (usually a stream) could have been the river Wye!!! It was about 15ft wide!!! two cars got stuck under the bridge as well. Pictures coming...
