Lovely pics and place. Must've been cold! The third one is very atmospheric and IMO worth entering in to one of the photography competitions on NW. I cycled up the Long Mynd from Cheltenham back in October. Made it up the Burway without stopping!!! Gorgeous pictures, it was similar today down in the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. In October I cycled up that way from Cheltenham, as far as the beautiful Pistyll Rhaeadr in the Berwyns; I imagine that would be looking stunning at the moment! I am a regular user of Flickr, and enjoy photography. I just have an old point and shoot but it's a good hobby all the same and combines well with my love of the outdoors. I have to say, most of my pictures are left as taken and rarely do I wildly edit an image. Occasionally I will bump up or down the saturation and contrast/brightness but with the intention of making the picture look closer to the reality. Obviously, black and white photographs are an exception. My most heavily edited picture is in fact my most recent one, taken on May Hill. I changed it to Black and White but also cloned out two trees on the right, to achieve a cleaner look, improve composition and emphasise the contrast in size between the mature and younger trees: http://flickr.com/photos/jtrickey/3130642097/ Another shot I changed to black and white was this: http://flickr.com/photos/jtrickey/2894240421/ I thought the B&W provided better contrast with the rays of light. Living in Cheltenham I am lucky to be able to walk and cycle frequently up into the Cotswolds. However I don't think that Cambs/Lincs scenery is all that bad; yes, it is a dreadful photograph and the weather was dismal but I am sure in some circumstances it would look very pleasant. In its defense, I came across this picture from Norfolk today, and it looks quite pleasant: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/590169 Lincolnshire scenes such as this: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/434301 would not go amiss in the Cotswolds and neither would little streams like this: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/434304 To cheer everyone up, here is a pleasant Cotswold scene, taken on a walk yesterday.

Woke up to a very thin layer of white over everything. I can only come to the conclusion that there must have been an unexpected light snow shower, I can see the individual flakes. The radar shows very light precipitation around 4am. Not very exciting but it's the first time I've seen lying snow this year.

Very nice, reminds me of the snow there was up on the Cotswolds two Februaries ago: http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?a...si&img=7394 There was wet snow all day in Cheltenham but up on the hill it was settling so I cycled up with a friend. I wish I could see snow like that again though. Great pics.

Rain changed to snow very briefly in the October event. However it's debatable whether it was pure snow or if there was rain mixed in. Other than that there has been no more in lowland Cheltenham. Nevertheless it's reassuring to be close to the Cotswolds; there was a covering on the tops of the hills in October and the MetOffice map reports an average of 13-17 days of lying snow per year.

Snow and bright sunlight don't seem to make easy photography so you have done a very good job of those pictures - spectacular scenery as well!

I noticed things had been slow today and yesterday evening. Seems all fine now though :-)

Thanks for that reminder shuggee! In that case could I (or you) possibly swap the Clun picture from non-weather to weather? My edit time seems to have expired now :-)

Four more pictures from me. Two weather-related: 1/ Taken near Montgomery in Powys, close to the Shropshire border. 2/ "Moods of the Borderland" Sepia version. Taken from the Stiperstones in Shropshire. This sums up October pretty well, for me! Two non weather-related: 1/ Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall, Powys, Wales. 2/ Clun Countryside, from the Castle.

Here is my first entry: I took this on the morning of Sunday 28th September. I woke up at 7:30 to a thick layer of inversion fog, so promptly set off on my bike up the Cotswolds Hills. During my bike ride, near Cowley, I saw these fantastic rays of sunlight penetrating the mist through the trees.

A couple of years ago in Cheltenham something similar happened; there were white circles of light going round the sky randomly. In the paper the next morning there were reports of people seeing this, and even calling the police to report it. It had been confused for the aurora, UFO sightings etc. In the end it turned out to be a light show staged somewhere in town for publicity (as far as I can remember).

The sixth (second to last) one is stunning, I like the movement in the clouds. Where did you take that? Lake District?

ANYWEATHER - yes it's not very often we have winds so strong from the NE, especially at this time of year. It's calming down a little now but MetOffice have more warnings for rain for us overnight, and winds are still gusting to 32mph. Staverton Private (about 4 miles from here) recorded a gust of 56mph with sustained 36mph at 11am this morning: http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=daily;type=maxg & http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=daily;type=maxw mark forster and wizzy- yes there hasn't been much mention of the winds on the forum, though the Metoffice have had warnings out and Netweather did point out that it would be windy... wizzy - I hope the trampoline's okay It would have been interesting to have seen a trampoline flying through the air. I remember one year it was another very blustery day and we had a heavy picnic-table umbrella out - it was quite amusing to watch it fly up about 10m as high as the house, into the air before crashing back down!

This is the first time I've actually seen a fallen tree in Cheltenham due to the wind, and it's strange it should happen in May, although the new leaves would probably have meant the 30-55mph winds will have had more of an effect.
