  1. This is one of those special winter days when a cloudless sky and gin-clear air provide unlimited visibility and the feeling of unlimited potential. And then you remember it's 2020 and the gloom re-descends. Temperature 2.4deg.C today's max and down from -2.8deg.C at 01:38, humidity is 77%, wind 2 to 7mph northwesterly, pressure is 1033.4hPa rising rapidly, there's been no rain today, which is unsurprising as there's not a cloud in sight, and the dew point is -1deg.C.
  2. This morning started with a light grey hue, then a bright grey and then, after lunch, some sunshine. Cold again though. Temperature 1.9deg.C, down from a max of 4.3deg.C at 13:29, humidity 89%, wind 0 to 2mph northerly with a max gust of 10mph, pressure 1020.0hPa rising quickly, there's been 0.2mm of rain today and cloud cover has dropped throughout the day to 1/8 now and the dew point is 1deg.C. Got a good sighting of Jupiter and Saturn earlier this evening.
  3. A wet morning has cleared to a nice hazy / sunny afternoon although it's remained cold all day. Anyone would think this was winter or something. Temperature 3.6deg.C down from a max of 6.7deg.C at 12:46 and up from a min of 1.1deg.C at midnight, humidity is 94%, dead calm now but a max gust of 7mph at 02:28, pressure 1013.2hPa steady, there's been 1.6mm of rain today and the dew point is 3deg.C.
  4. Not only is it the winter solstice but Uranus is combobulated, or something of that ilk, according to the news reports this evening and what can I see of this historically important occurrence? The square root of faff all, that's what. The clouds that produced on-and-off light rain all day are now cloaking the sky in secrecy. How disappointing. Still, the days start stretching out from tomorrow and that at least is nice. Temperature 5.4deg.C up from a min of 3.6deg.C at 07:23 and down from a max of 7.1deg.C at 12:06, humidity is 95%, wind is 0 to 2mph northerly with a gust of 15mph at 01:42, pressure is 1000.6hPa steady, there's been 1.4mm of rain today and 5.4mm in the last 24 hours, and although Diablo say Snow, he also say dew point is 4deg.C. Go figure.
  5. Well, look at the clever boys and girls making up for a cancelled Christmas by re-running Hallowe'en with a creepy graveyard visit. Very historical and atmospheric. This part of Ayrshire is deep in Covenanter country so there are a fair few overtly bigoted gravestones about that use outrageous language to describe the hell-bound oppressors of good Presbyterian folk. Meanwhile, it's light grey outside and the ground is dry for the first time in a week. Oh, and my father has been taken into hospital with Covid pneumonia, so our Christmas celebration has gone from five days to one day to no days at all. Bah humbug! Temperature 7.4deg.C up from a minimum of 6.3deg.C at 01:17, humidity is 86%, wind has dropped to 2 to 4mph south-southeasterly following a max gust of 16mph at 02:29, pressure is 1003.7hPa rising, there's been no rain today and although cloud cover is 8/8 it's pretty thin and allowing a brightish day.
  6. Temperature 7.3deg.C down from a max of 8.8deg.C at 11:37 and up from min of 7.1deg.C at 09:19, relative humidity is 85%, wind 2 to 16mph generally southerly, pressure 992.5hPa rising, there's been 1.2mm of rain today and 11.2mm in the last 24 hours, dew point is 5deg.C and cloud cover is 8/8.
  7. Forget the models, Diablo he say Snow; so you can forget that idea then.
  8. Mostly damp this morning except when it's wet. Temperature 11.9deg.C up from 7.8deg.C min at 06:39, humidity 91%, wind 5 to 17mph southerly, pressure 993.9hPa dropping like a stone, there's been 1.2mm of rain today and 4.6mm in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.
  9. @Mair Snaw They've now got to the point of discussing how little the charts need to change before predicting sleet in SouthernSoftieLand. It's quite cute really, but not as cute as your new kitten.
  10. Northern Japan has had two metres of snow in two days, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Yanks. Meanwhile I'm just back from lunch (industrial turkey dinner,) and can report that although we're still, thankfully, avoiding the seasonal permapish, it's been dull and raw all day. Temperature 7.4deg.C down from max of 7.8deg.C at midnight and up from min of 6.2deg.C at 05:12, humidity is 89%, wind was gusting to 14mph earlier but now around 0 to 4mph southeasterly, pressure 1005.6hPa falling, there's been 2.4mm of rain today and 6.2mm in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8, which is why it's already dark.
  11. Yesterday after lunch (lentil soup, two bacon rolls, large wedge of chocolate sponge, pot of tea,) the sun came out and it turned into a lovely day. Today isn't like that. Temperature 8.9deg.C up from 5.4deg.C at midnight, relative humidity is 89%, the wind has slackened to 1 - 5mph southerly from a maximum gust of 18mph at 09:26, pressure is 995.8hPa steady, there's been 0.8mm of rain today and 5.0mm in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8. Oh, and it's already dark.
  12. Oh good, a competition. For a snaw obsessed person I suggest you call her Tracy Snaw while she's hardly there at all and then Lotti Snaw when there's much more of her.
  13. Having spent the first two and a bit months in hospital due to a lack of breathing, but not absence thankfully, and then the next four months shielding, I am keen to get out at any opportunity. We're therefore heading out to lunch again, and what a nice day it is for that. The sun (see previous explanation) is out, the rain has kept away and the temperature is hovering between cold and chilly. Perfect for a wee walk and a bite to eat. Temperature 7.3deg.C, which is max for the day so far, up from a minimum of 3.1deg.C at 05:29, humidity is 90%, wind is 0 to 5mph southerly, pressure is 999.1hPa rising, there's been no rain today nor in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 5/8.
  14. Completely overcast and damp following rain earlier, light southwesterly breeze, temperature currently the minimum for the day so far at 7.9deg.C.
  15. Sun. Yellow. Round. Up in sky. Rumoured to give off heat. But not here, obviously. Temperature 7.9deg.C down from a max of 9.2deg.C at 00:11, humidity is 92%, wind 3 to 15mph south-southwesterly, pressure is 987.3hPa rising quickly, 6.6mm of rain today and 16.0mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover currently 8/8 but thin enough to let some light through.
  16. The rain has stopped, the sun is out, we're off for a restaurant lunch; what a fine day. Temperature 9.1deg.C up from a min of 5.3deg.C at 06:51, humidity is 90%, wind is 0 to 4mph northwesterly, pressure is 1001.6hPa, there's been 5.6mm of rain today and cloud cover is currently 2/8.
  17. What a wonderfully descriptive word 'bleugh' is! No? Oh, no matter Pierre. Temperature now 6.6deg.C and 6.0mm of rain has fallen so far today. Again, it seems we're getting off lightly compared to some.
  18. Ah. Your confusion with the apparent dichotomy above can only be explained by acknowledging the inclusion in each case of the word "she". As someone who has recently relocated to be with your girlfriend, you'd better get used to it and adapt accordingly. Temperature 6.9deg.C down from a max of 7.1deg.C at 01:49 and up from a min of 6.1deg.C at 05:04, humidity 96%, wind 0 to 10mph northwesterly, pressure 985.2hPa rising, rainfall today totals 3.8mm and cloud cover is 8/8.
  19. The problem in the mad thread seems to be that there are many jigsaw puzzles but, in winter at least, only one lid.
  20. 8/8 cloud cover this morning but remaining reasonably bright despite that. My county has been moved from Level 4 to Level 3 as from Friday; does that mean I'm allowed snow again? Temperature 5.1deg.C but max was 5.9deg.C at 03:36 and min was 3.8deg.C at 09:04, which is curious. Humidity 92%, wind 0 to 5mph southeasterly, pressure 1003.1hPa falling and there's been 0.4mm of rain so far today. We seem to have pretty much escaped the days of rain that others have been reporting.
  21. Damp and dull day unfortunately, a complete contrast to the crisp sunshine of yesterday. So that didn't take long to balance out then. Minimum temperature today was 1.9deg.C at midnight, maximum temperature was 6.4deg.C at 13:56, humidity now 93%, wind between 0 and 8mph south-southwesterly, pressure 1002.2hPa rising quickly, 4.4mm of rain so far today although dry throughout daylight hours and the dew point here is currently 4deg.C.
  22. Sun is out, wind next to nothing, still a bit of residual ice about and it's chilly, temperature now 4.3deg.C up from -2.2deg.C at midnight.
  23. Been out running errands this morning and, although it's a bit on the chilly side, the sun is out and everything seemed crisp and bright. A really nice morning to be out and about. Temperature 4.2deg.C up from a minimum of -2.2deg.C at midnight, humidity is 89%, wind 0 to 4mph westerly, pressure 1002.2hPa falling, 0.2mm of rain recorded today and the dew point is 3deg.C.
