  1. Okay. So sleet's arrived. Am I supposed to be grateful? The Beeb has changed again to say I'm getting snaw. They've got a window too it seems.
  2. I beg you pardon, I never offered you a snaw garden..... They did so! Pishing Met Office.
  3. Oh, @Hairy Celt I thought we were looking at the pretty clouds.
  4. Rain, rain and more rain here. I couldn't even pretend that it looks like turning to sleet, never mind snaw, because it doesn't. Diablo though, he do say snaw. Temperature 1.3deg.C, humidity 94%, wind 1 to 6mph northerly, pressure 987.3hPa still dropping like a stone, 10.2mm or rain today and the dew point is at 1deg.C. Meanwhile, up in Newton Mearns, my daughter reports that it's snawing heavily. Thanks for that.
  5. Well as the sun barely gets over the horizon it's never going to get over the yardarm, so we'll call a slight mis-timing rather than wild abandon.
  6. I got there just before you KW. I usually do. She's always complaining about it.
  7. A corruption of the MOD thread, which is a shortening of the model discussion thread, which, in itself, is a corruption. (possibly Model Output Discussion thread)
  8. They're saying in the MAD thread that there's no point in looking at the models closer than 192 hours out because the pattern in that timeframe is blocked. Well, the models might be blocked but, as anyone who ever tried to plan a bar-b-que in Scotland knows, the weather certainly isn't blocked. The way this coming storm is forecast to pivot I could even be peering southwestwards for the first signs of deluge and find that Christoph has taken me from behind, which wouldn't do at all. Not at all.
  9. Dreich here. Dreichie McDreich. And dull. And drizzle. A complete contrast, apparently, to the forecasts from the BBC and Met Office, which show a mixture of rain, sleet and snow from now to Saturday. Or Sunday. Not the same mix obviously, because they're models and they choose different directions from each other with every step. Honestly, it's like herding cats. The only thing for sure is that they'll both be wrong and what will be, will be. Temperature 3.8deg.C up from 2.2deg.C at 09:00, humidity 95%, wind 0 to 3mph (max) southeasterly, pressure 995.4hPa dropping like a stone, 0.8mm of rain today, cloud cover 8/8 and the dew point is at 3deg.C. Oh, and Diablo he say drizzle, which is exactly what we've got. Who'd have thunk it.
  10. Rain here, and more rain. That's about it really. Temperature 5.7deg.C up from 4.6deg.C at 04:38, humidity 94%, wind 2 to 6mph generally south-southeasterly with a 14mph gust at 01:47, pressure is 1013.4hPa falling slowly, 8.2mm of rain today and 17.4mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8.
  11. The cloud to the south is just beginning to break up and we're now bathing in bright sunshine, which is a definite improvement from this morning. Well, the tiny little bit of 'this morning' that I saw. Anyhow it's better than it was and long may it continue. Temperature 6.3deg.C up from 1.4deg.C minimum at 08:15, humidity is 91%, wind is 3 to 6mph southwesterly gusting to 10mph, pressure is 1022.2hPa falling slowly, there's been 2.0mm of rain today and the cloud cover is 7/8. Happy Sunday to one and all.
  12. Well I hope that all of you who got some snaw are bluddy pleased with yourselves; I got SFA thank you very much. Except drizzle. Pish. Temperature 7.3deg.C up from 2.4deg.C minimum at midnight, humidity is 92%, wind is generally 3 to 6mph southerly with a 17mph gust at 04:09, pressure is 1010.6hPa rising quickly, there's been 13.6mm of continuous drizzle today and the cloud cover is 8/8.
  13. Oh what a grey day. My village is on the edge of the yellow warning area for snow and ice tomorrow, however the detail says 7deg.C and rain. Why do they do that? It's very annoying. Temperature 2.3deg.C up from -1.9deg.C at midnight, humidity 92%, wind 0 to 2mph southeasterly, pressure 1029.9hPa, there's been 0.4mm of rain today and cloud cover is 8/8.
  14. Woke to a lovely surprise this morning. Outside though, not so good. Choose sleet! You know it makes slush. Temperature 0.6deg.C up from 0.4deg.C minimum at 09:38, humidity 95%, wind 0 to 4mph northerly, pressure 1021.5hPa rising rapidly, there's been 9mm of precipitation since midnight and 24mm in the last 24 hours but I'm not sure that includes current wintery stuff, cloud cover 8/8 and dew point is 0deg.C. We're currently having breakfast and watching the sleet turn to snow. She's getting excited. Again. Diablo, he say unbroken sunshine. We're going to have words soon...
  15. This morning was interesting what with freezing rain and all - I even saw a dug going on its bahoochie on the street outside my house. Met Office is showing my area being in the yellow warning zone for snow and ice but the forecast for here is rain throughout the coming days, and nights. Not quite sure what to make of that. The BBC reckons we'll get a couple of hours of sleet tomorrow morning then back to rain. Temperature 2.2deg.C up from -1.2deg.C at midnight, humidity is 94%, wind is 1 to 2mph northerly, pressure is 1017.5hPa falling slowly, it's currently raining lightly with 5.2mm having fallen today, cloud cover is 8/8 and the dew point is 1deg.C.
  16. Hang on, the Met Office has just given me my sleet back for tomorrow. Hallelujah!
  17. Well someone's up to no good - my weather warning has been half-inched! Not that I'm particularly bothered as the switch from dreich pish yesterday to cracking crispness today has been fabulous. Temperature 1.8deg.C up from -4.3deg.C at 08:58, humidity 89%, wind 0 to 6mph southerly, pressure 1019.2hPa rising slowly, no rain, no cloud and dew point at 0deg.C.
  18. Yes, and not via the talking end. Pishy wet day never really cleared up. Temperature maxed out at 8.5 deg.C and 11.8mm of rain has fallen today so far. Pressure now at 1006.1hPa steady. Wind has dropped to nothing.
  19. Does the warning specifically exclude Ellon, or just imply it? I'd take anything as a change to the krap over Ayrshire at the moment. Nothing to be said for it at all, so I won't. Temperature 8.3deg.C up from 5.9deg.C just after midnight, humidity is 96%, wind generally 3 to 8mph southerly with a max gust of 17mph at 08:37, pressure 1007.4hPa falling slowly, there's been 6.6mm of rain today, 10.8mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.
  20. Good afternoon. I've just taken a wander down to the pond. I didn't used to have a pond (like up to yesterday) but I do now. Quite a large one, as it happens. No fish or frogs yet but time will tell. Temperature 6.1deg.C, humidity 96%, wind 3 to 6mph southerly, pressure 1020.5hPa dropping like a stone, 4.6mm of rain so far today and cloud cover remains 8/8.
  21. There are only two kinds of weather that I really can't abide; one is extreme heat, especially if it's also clammy, which I find physically challenging and the second is a thaw, which is simply depressing. The switch from crisp, clean and white landscapes to damp, dirty and grey outlooks just sucks the life out of everything. Well nearly everything. The birds in my garden that until yesterday were having to queue up for a go on the feeders are now all over the grass and borders, feasting on all the wee subterranean critters that have come up for air. Nevertheless I find it hard to persuade myself to get out of bed in a thaw and so this morning I didn't. There's nothing like a whole morning in bed to brighten up one's day. Temperature 5.9deg.C up from 2.5deg.C at 05:24, humidity 96%, wind between 2 and 12mph southerly, pressure 1022.1hPa falling slowly, there's been 2.8mm of rain since midnight, 4.2mm in the last 24 hours and there is 8/8 cloud cover that is thick enough to make it really pretty dull.
  22. Lowest temperature of the winter so far last night, -9.7deg.C at 00:10. Temperature 1.2deg.C, humidity 86%, wind 1 to 6mph southerly, pressure 1025.9hPa falling slowly, no rain or snaw in the last 24 hours, 8/8 cloud cover and the dew point is -1 deg.C.
  23. Missed being an ice day by a bawhair's width! Maxed out at 0.6deg.C at 14:19. Temperature now -5.2deg.C dropping like a stone, humidity 89%, no wind, pressure 1026.5hPa rising slowly, no further snaw since last night and the dew point is now at -7deg.C.
  24. That's one of them euphemisms, in't it? Euphemism for one of them perverted practices you lot get up to in the kinky kingdom of Fife. Temperature now up to -0.7deg.C and the dew point has risen to -3deg.C but the sky is cloudless so I think we could be finished with snaw for a bit.
