  1. I'm not surprised; it was jolly chilly last night. Maybe put some clothes on before rushing out for photos? Talking of which, Diablo, he say blazing sunshine. I think I might be about to have our first ice day of the winter.
  2. It started snawing here around 1am and quite heavily for a while but in the end only a couple of cm were added to the total. Temperature -4.3deg.C up from -6.3deg.C at 07:14, humidity is 89%, wind is currently 0 to 1mph northwesterly with a gust of 10mph at midnight, pressure is 1025.2hPa rising slowly, there's been 2cm approx. of snaw today and the dew point is currently at -6deg.C.
  3. Wot he says. Temperature 2.7deg.C up from -0.9deg.C at 00:01, humidity 93%, no wind, pressure 1019.1hPa steady, 2cm of new snow, 7/8 cloud cover and dew point is at 2deg.C.
  4. I was happily watching the many news channels to which I have access displaying the USA flushing itself doon the lavvy when I heard the pop from my weather station that means Diablo has finally got his finger out (durty Diablo!) and I see that Diablo, he say snaw. Looking outside (my preferred method of divining the weather,) I see it's snawing. Well done Diablo. Not. I'm really impressed by the skill and artistry that @SW Saltire @Stormeh and @Benvironment put into their photos, and I hope that lockdown provides them with more opportunities to display their skills. Oh, and others too, obviously; everyone's a winner here. Temperature -0.9deg.C, humidity 92%, Wind 0mph, pressure 1021.2hPa falling slowly, snaw just started and the dew point is at -2deg.C.
  5. Hey, who needs snow when you've got colours like that? Beautiful photos.
  6. Oh, that's strange; the gritter's just gone past. Not one of the named ones you understand, no, just Old MacDonald on his tractor towing a large trailer full of road salt with a man in the back shoveling grit as fast as he's able. It used to be an East European called Ivan who was jolly good but at New Year he had to be sent back and now it's an East Lothian called Barry. Barry would get on better if he used the other end if his shovel but, on the positive side, he works up a sweat trying, the grit lasts a lot longer and nobody's car gets covered in salt. Not very effective when it snows though...
  7. What a cracking day; sun's out, no cloud, no wind, snow is still on the grass and paths, and it's cold and clear. Just what I want from winter. Temperature 2.1deg.C up from -5.0deg.C at 07:38, humidity 88%, wind 0 to 2mph south-southeasterly, pressure 1026.1hPa falling slowly, no rain/snow in the last 24 hours and the dew point is at 0deg.C.
  8. Possibly, but not in shops or whilst driving I would guess.
  9. A bright enough day but not as sunny as it's been recently so feeling a bit damp now. Snow still covers the grass at the back, which shows that it's remained cold to freezing for the entire week. Temperature 3.1deg.C up from -2.7deg.C at 03:36, humidity 87%, wind 0 to 5mph generally northerly, pressure 1032.1hPa falling slowly, no rain in the last 24 hours, 4/8 cloud cover and the dew point is at 1deg.C. @Blitzen A man who winks a lot?
  10. Another sunny start to the day but not so cold as it's been recently. Temperature 2.4deg.C up from a minimum of 0.9deg.C at 04:44, humidity 91%, wind 2 to 11mph northerly, pressure 1033.8hPa steady, 1.4mm of rain since midnight and 2.2mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover 3/8 and the dew point is currently at 1deg.C.
  11. BBC Weather App has now changed to show us getting a sleet at lunchtime and then faff all for a fortnight. Diablo he do a victory lap as I type....
  12. Yes, easy. Half an hour tops. Even easier to get a bus.
  13. Good morning you blessed people of the North, and what a fine winter morning it is. Bright, cold and clear as a bell; lovely. Temperature -0.8deg.C up from -6.7deg.C at 06:44, humidity 92%, no wind registering for the third day running, pressure 1028.3hPa rising slowly, no rain or snow in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 4/8 and the dew point is currently -2deg.C The BBC Weather App says I'm due sleet from 13:00 to 16:00 and then heavy snow from 16:00 until 06:00 tomorrow. Non-stop! Diablo he say BBC a fanny. Met O agrees. Game on.
  14. Jings but it's cold this morning! I went out to post a birthday card earlier and, even although the post box is only a hundred and fifty metres away, my knees have frozen up and are now quite painful. Hot Radox bath called for methinks. Temperature -4.2deg.C up from -6.3deg.C at 01:03, humidity 95%, no wind has registered so far today (but that might be because the wind measuring thingy has frozen solid), pressure is 1021.3hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain, cloud cover is thin and patchy, say 1/8, and the dew point is -5deg.C so the effect of any moisture heading this way will be interesting.
  15. No, that would have been a nice coincidence but the woman next to me was busy telling the cashier that she only kept me because I'm impossibly handsome, hung like a horse and loaded. At least I think that's what she was saying. Crisp bright morning to herald in a new year. Temperature is 2.1deg.C up from -4.2deg.C at 09:23, humidity is 89%, no wind to speak of, pressure is 1018.6hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain/snaw today and the dew point is 1deg.C.
  16. Best of luck. I'm just back from Tesco over at Galston, which is going like a circus with controlled access to the drinks aisle (well I say 'controlled'; it was more like a scene from 300 Spartans,) and having finally filled my basket, with what non-Scottish people may have considered to be an excessive amount of alcohol, I found a cashier, filled my bags and paid the girl. Then, as I swung one of the bags off the counter thingy, the handles ripped off and four bottles of white, two of red, two of fizz and a tin of baby carrots (well a man has to eat) hit the deck and three bottles smashed. You can imagine my surprise when a couple of assistants appeared, started tidying up the mess and then set about replacing the smashed bottles free of charge. I still can't believe it now. Well done Tesco. Meanwhile, the temperature has risen to 2.8deg.C and the snow on the roads has melted. However the rain stayed off and the rest of the snow is ready for a good freeze tonight. Just a pity that we're not allowed to go out for a crunchy walk at midnight. The dew point has risen to 2deg.C and diablo, he say rain. So, a pishy end to a pishy year then, but whatever the weather I wish all my fellow Scottie Threaders a damn fine Hogmanay and a far superior New Year. Right, where's my bottle opener? We're only fifteen minutes away from a bottle of windfall wine...
  17. We are. It's snawing now. Temperature 0.4deg.C up from -3.9deg.C at 07:20, humidity is 95%, wind 0 to 4mph east-southeasterly, no rainfall recorded but about 2.5cm of snaw clearly visible and the dew point is -1deg.C.
  18. The cold snap just keeps on giving and the BBC weather app says I'm getting snow this afternoon. Let's see. Temperature -1.5deg.C up from a minimum of -5.6deg.C at 07:22, humidity 96%, no wind at all recorded so far today, pressure 1003.9hPa rising slowly, no rain, no clouds and dew point is -2deg.C. Edit: Just noticed that Diablo he also say snow. So that's that goosed then.
  19. Yes Shugster, but only just. There's half a cm of snow out the back but a full cm of road salt out the front. I don't know what the council was expecting, snawmageddon possibly, but it didn't happen. Still, it's a beautiful, bright, sunny day and pretty close to my idea of winter perfection. Temperature 2.9deg.C up from a minimum of -2.2deg.C at midnight, humidity is 86%, no wind whatsoever, pressure is 997.8hPa rising slowly, there's been 0.2mm of precipitation today and the sky is clear and blue.
  20. Last night never looked like being anything special in this neck of the woods and so I drew the kitchen curtains this morning to be greeted with ..... yup, a pathetic pallette of paltriness, that's what. I suppose there is the merest hint of something white amongst the grass, but that's it and it's nowhere else. Temperature -0.4deg.C up from an overnight minimum of -1.2deg.C at 08:59, humidity is 96%, the wind has taken the day off (and I don't blame it,) pressure is up to 979.2hPa and rising, there's been 0.6mm of rain today and 4.2mm in the last 24 hours, and the dew point is -1deg.C. Cloud cover is 8/8 but it doesn't look all that inspiring being thin and disorganised.
  21. Well blow my horn. Diablo was right and I was wrong. Who'd have thunk it?
  22. At some point last night it did sleet or snow because I can see faint traces of it in the grass but it's just drizzle now and so gives the impression of just another damp, grey, winter's day. Temperature 1.1deg.C up from 0.6deg.C minimum at 04:18, humidity is 95%, wind is 0 to 3mph south-southwesterly with a maximum gust this morning of 13mph, pressure is now steady at 967.3hPa, there's been 4.0mm of rain today and 18.0mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8 and the dew point is 1deg.C. Diablo, he say snow coming. I ha'e ma doubts.
  23. The storm, such as it is, made a brief appearance earlier this evening as the continuous drum roll on the rooflights gave evidence that it was pishing doon fit tae burst. Temperature down to 4.5deg.C, wind 4 to 14mph generally southwesterly with a 28mph max gust at 17:56, pressure is 974.5hPa dropping like a stone as it was this morning, and the rainfall total for today is now 13mm, dew point is 3deg.C. Actually, the rainfall total might be higher than I've recorded but as the precipitation I've seen has been of the horizontal variety it probably hasn't been collected in the rain thingy. Someone in Norway will be collecting it.
  24. Good morning, I hope that those of you who did Christmas did it well. I couldn't be bothered. Today is a dark grey day, damp looking and a bit windy but no sign of the storm yet. Temperature 6.6deg.C up from a minimum of 5.6deg.C at 01:47, humidity 88%, wind 5 to 12mph south-southwesterly with a max gust of 22mph at 10:58, pressure is 1003.9hPa dropping like a stone, and there's been 1.8mm of rain so far today.
