  1. I can confirm Sheffield north snowing moderately biggest flakes of the winter so far. It’s happening!!!
  2. I believe this happened in 2010, streamers merging into larger bands. With streamers being predicted to reach as far as wales, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to suggest this could happen agian. With this pattern we also can’t rule out troughs appearing at short notice.
  3. The upgrade from the Euro4 is very welcome, seemed really strange when watching some of the precipitation models blasting quite intensive streamers/bands into the coast for them to just disappear and make no progress inland. They’re bound to be surprises during this spell and I would imagine upgrades. Can’t wait!!!
  4. Yeah I’ve just spent the last two hours learning about adiabatic lapse rates in the hope a can find out when, how, why and how much snow we will get. My head hurts. Just going to watch the radar
  5. @Scott Ingham what’s your take on the icons modelling of precipitation rate/positioning tomorrow night for our neck of the woods? seems to be much more aggressive in its predictions in comparison to others.
  6. Signal still there on icon 18z moderate snow fall between 9pm and 11pm for favoured spots south of the region sliding south west.
  7. Icon 15z puts some heavy precipitation into South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire close of play tomorrow night, much of the region to have seen something by early Sunday morning. ??
  8. Got to agree with the second part about getting nervous/downgrade. Looking in the mod thread many charts posted start on Sunday evening, which is frustrating because it totally discounts Saturday night I feel lots of IMBY posting can create a sense of peril especially for me who is relative newbie. The positive thing about Saturdays snow chances is it’s been brought forward, this time yesterday looked like starting 11pm now much earlier at 6pm which can only be a good signal. Another positive IMO is that the light snow symbols being shown on various apps is more of a way of saying “it’s going to snow but we’re not sure how much”. My tip is to stick in the Yorkshire thread if you want the low down on our weather and listen to people who are more knowledgeable and honest about weather prospects which are mostly always backed up with either science or vast amounts of experience. Sure helps me so thank you guys!!
  9. Let it be known that we stand on the brink of something potentially very special. Fingers, toes, hair follicles all crossed.
  10. If the intense stuff stays around for anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour, we have got to be looking at another 2cms maybe more in sweet spots. That’s what will do the damage. Seem loads of people presumably set off early to work, in what I would call questionable means of transport. Might get stung by that decision. The 4x4 will help me out this morning.
  11. The back edge of the band is very intense, it’s this that probably prompted the amber warning, should hit South Yorkshire soon,
  12. I’m tempted to get the snowboard ready. Dewpoint point -2 and temp -0.7 a few more hours of clear skies should help the temps drop further. Nice to see the Amber warning early doors.
  13. Agreed, I know the pattern is complex but numerous times this winter, there temperature forecasts have been 3 or 4 degrees out. Not so bad in the summer, but in the winter it’s the difference between dangerously icy roads and patchy frost. I suppose they can only serve up what data their given and they may be right, but if your forecasting 2m temps wrong in situations were “marginal” is the word, people could find themselves in a position that they not fully prepared for.
  14. Could Sheffield, Barnsley, Chesterfield and possibly Rotherham be in the game for a dusting later in the day? V8 says yes. This was just posted on the midlands regional.
  15. Certainly looks like precipitation intensity has dropped off after its journey over the Pennines for us in Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham way. The main bulk has just missed us. Still opportunities though radar fairly active.
  16. Yeah looks like quite a patch of Yorkshire may get a surprise or too in 30-40 minutes time. Fingers crossed Watched the band become increasingly more organise all morning.
  17. Plenty close on the radar for South Yorkshire, also looks like the shower activity behind the first area of precipitation is intensifying. Just got to see if it makes it over the higher ground. Good day for radar watching.
