  1. Looks like the initial band is going to thin out quite considerably, however this will, as ever, be a nowcasting event, does look a lot more beefy than presented on the tv. Although It’s not the initial band that intrigues me, another system looks to be modelled and its whether it spins towards our region I think this is the same system @John90 has alluded to. Looks too far north, Not an expert. Fingers crossed we can get something out of this.
  2. Temperature so slow to drop Yesterday and today cloud cover doing a job. 1.9c with dew 0.5, heading in the right direction. Keep those showers coming, slowly slowly catchy monkey.
  3. @Scott Ingham Get well soon mate, I had the rona in early December, know the feeling. Keep hammering the Lemsip. Radar looks fairly light at the moment, wife working in penistone today said it’s come down quite heavy and white over, the heavier band/blob just skirted by Sheffield. Temp currently 2c Dewpoint 0.9 wrong side of marginal at the moment for me.
  4. @Allseasons-si@Craigers can only agree, radar watching/now casting. Stuff popping up all over the place.
  5. Wait over, snowing and sticking on contact. Brilliant snow hunting. Maybe some on here should set up their own Yorkshire weather broadcasting. Contributors nailed this one.
  6. 100% this. The area of precipitation is also moving a lot quicker than the initial band that just seems to be meandering across then country, these look to be combining. Could be a quite a sustained spell of winter for some.
  7. Honestly the bbc is a bit of a joke at the moment, makes nothing of the feature that is currently modelled on radar. Instead turns it into patchy rain showers, instead of the organised mass of precipitation we are currently seeing that is delivering snow. For people out and about on the roads it makes it dangerous. Let’s hope the band corrects eastwards into South Yorkshire, hoping the front that has moved through the NW into midlands has some effect on this. Potential.
  8. The band in the North Sea looks to be tracking towards the South Yorkshire depending on decay (looks very organised though) Leeds, Bradford, hull surely in the game aswell. @Scott Ingham regarding 850s got to imagine if models have been getting ground temps wrong for many 850s would have shared the same fate. Do you reckon this is why model outputs have been gradually getting colder? The warmth of the sea that many have banged on about spoiling out luck is a double edged sword because it also helps shower intensity. Fascinating weather picture at the moment.
  9. Those showers certainly out of the blue intensity wise. Plenty of stuff kicking around this morning and still seems to be developing. A day for the radar watchers. Current conditions in Sheffield north -2.4 and dew of -4. Good luck snow hunting!
  10. Hi all, Long term lurker, but decided to jump on board this year as feels and certainly looks different in terms of the outputs from the models so couldn’t resist. Thanks for everyone’s contribution still learning and some of the learning that I have done is down to you guys. Ta Very much! Just on the above, I too can not trust these forecasted temps last night is a prime example according to forecast should have been -1 it is currently -4.2 with a dewpoint of -5.4. Not what I expected. Off the back of this I a have question, how does this effect the models? In 2 hours time the temperature in my locale should be 3 degrees, now, for my learning eyes that’s quite a temperature swing in a very short amount of time. The forecast also suggests a rain shower during this time period those figures don’t look marginal and I’m yet to see any background signs that will help push these temperatures up so quickly. So if precipitation falls as snow when a model has predicted rain how does this effect surface temperatures, dew-points, cooling/warming and any other background signals? I know this has happened already across different regions so is something I would like to look into in relation to the accuracy of model output. Thanks again!
