  1. I remember taking a train ride to London during that spell and I remember London had zero snow and in fact all places west of paddock wood were heroically snowless
  2. There's a guy on a rival weather site from an island in north Kent who claims that frigid mid winter easterlies/north easterlies are a thing of the past. He's got a good point. It's been 8 years and this midwinter is a bust also. It's late winter now.
  3. 3rd December 2010,, about 25 cm settled in 1 night in the shepway area. 6th December it peed down with rain and melted the lot in 2 hours. So from a local perspective it isn't really very memorable other than I got some awesome sledging on the Folkestone hills on 1day
  4. Jan 85, Jan 87, Feb 91 and Dec 96 were the main snow events in that part of the world. 96/97 Event was longest lasting though. December 2010 was a 2 day wonder down there.
  5. In fact that cold spell began about 20th December with biting east winds but no snow for the first 10 days
  6. Trip down memory lane,, no one ever talks about the beast from the east of early Jan 1997. I was living in Hythe Kent then and I can safely say it was the longest I've seen deep lying snow. From 30th December 1996 until 11th Jan97. Nearly all those days had sub zero max temps. Even on the south Kent Riviera. Did I imagine the whole thing?
  7. More rare than a thames streamer. The east Kent daggler. On a North/north easterly
  8. The snow event of Feb 2010 In the east of Kent was quite savage. It only affected Margate and rest of thanet plus deal, Dover, folkestone and Hythe. No one else knew about it
  9. To all thepeople in Kent who think that there's been no snow... December 4th, significant accumulation on the north downs north of Hythe and Ashford. Jan 16 several cm of snow on north downs at 7 in morning before rain washed it away.
  10. Because it's far enough west. The temperature further east will be too high I reckon.
  11. I think all of Kent will fail with this one except maybe sevenoaks.
  12. I'm going for 1 or 2 cm on the Kent North downs between Maidstone and Ashford ( if any precipitation even reaches)
  13. In fact, hawkinge is the most snow prone place in east kent. The number of times hawkinge had thick covering but meanwhile folkestone got cold rain 3 miles away
  14. Even places well inland with low altitude did badly. I bet hawkinge and capel le ferne got some
  15. The freezing level was stark this morning. Bottom of hill was muck and mud but top was frozen hard and crispy(for acoupleof hours)
  16. It exceed my expectations. But only because i hiked up the hills at 5.30 am. My home location got zip plus a deluge of rain.
  17. Excellent result. The proper snow accumulations in this part of south east was above 180 metres or 550 feet. But it was worth the walk.
  18. Well it was all about altitude. Where i live in lowland Maidstone , no snow accumulation. But i took a very early walk to the north downs (40mins) and it was winter galore. 5cm on Boxley and Detling Downs. Problem was the snow suddenly stopped and turned to sluicing rain while i was still up in the hills. It was a soaking experience on the way home. Plus I slipped over and got caked with mud
