  1. Just thought I'd pop in here and see what everyone was up to as I've been forced in from the garden by the rain. The tomatoes are in and out of the conservatory trying to make the best of the sunshine and not end up lying horizontal from the wind. It is feeling more like Autumn and next week's forecast looked so wintery I thought I'd drop in and see if there was any likelyhood of snow! I can't wait until I can finally plant everything outside, but at this rate that wont be until August!
  2. We finally get a Thames streamer and it's in April - moderate snow but no settling here in central Croydon
  3. Yes, those radar returns have been really misleading. I've stopped running to the lamppost to check for snow now as it is almost always wrong. Last night I recorded my lowest ever dewpoint of -7.4 so it has been drying out the snow up there before it reaches us down here.
  4. Who'd have thought we would still be radar watching in April. I'm looking forward to one last hurrah to pay me back for my patience over the past weeks since the last covering. All this cold and hardly any precipitation. One funny thing about it is that I have forgotton what rain is like as I now expect anything falling from the sky to be white by default, even if it is just graupel.
  5. Having a lazy day today after a hectic weekend. Managed an afternoon's work in the garden on Saturday which despite being cold with snow grain showers, felt quite comfortable. However today, the sun is teasing me through the conservatory windows, but the wind is making each attempt I have at going outside a complete failure. The gale is blowing down the chimney and causing the woodburner to whistle like a steam train
  6. Is this cold, dry, flow some kind of purgatory imposed on us snow lovers? They say be careful what you wish for and we all wished it was cold enough for snow, but we forgot to check the small print. It is certainly cold enough, with low dewpoints, but who would have thought that it could mean days and days of cold dry grey weather where the mearest hint of a snow grain gets us overly excited? The appearance of the sun today on my cycle to work somehow convinced me that spring had arrived since it was probably about 4c which, after recent conditions, felt considerably toasty (at least it is not raining)
  7. Temps and dew point hovering around freezing here. I'm intending to plant some seeds this afternoon, optimistic I know, but it's so cold in the conservatory I keep finding myself back indoors by the fire. Just popped into the garden to rescue a few logs which are now defrosting. There are a lot of very tiny grains blowing around in the wind which probably the best I can expect today
  8. That's good, I shouldn't have to stay up too late to see the evidence - temp and dew pt stuck around 2c at the moment
  9. I think it's finally stopped now and according to the radar no more to come. Slightly disappointed now - bit of post snow come down. All the excitement of the past few hours hasn't come to much again, should be used to it by now. I was hoping that as the wind turned easterly there might be a chance of more snow showers being fed in, but I think I'm probably just fantasising
  10. Been out for a drive around and the snow was pretty impressive on farthing downs, some lovely wintery, spring, scenes in the woods. As we got over towards Godstone there wasn't any lying snow despite heavy stuff falling, so decided to come back hoping there would have been some accumulation. Sadly found it had all but disappeared here too. It was snowing for the whole time we were driving.
  11. Still snowing here, but the stuff that had settled on the patio has melted somewhat. Much prettier to look at than rain and puts us all in a better mood too. For what it's worth, I think the BBC forecasts have been quite good this winter, as we all know, it's not easy to forecast snow. However, if we end up with a foot of it by tomorrow afternoon I might revoke some of this praise
  12. Heavy snow here, best I've seen this year! Wasn't expecting to wake up to this. Must be because I put the sledges in the loft last week!
  13. Luckily it has been dry enough today for the OH and my brother to put up the new fence that has been languishing around the garden in various piles for a few weeks. There was a heavy shower whilst they dropped into wickes for some trellis, and just enough time after work for me to inspect the finished job before it started chucking it down. Fire on, wine in hand, happy!
  14. Those showers do seem to be filling in a bit now, and making it past London without dying off, so maybe we will get some decent snow overnight.
  15. It is frustrating watching it all go south of us isn't it? There is hardly a flake to be seen outside now. We are only just in that yellow warning but I wonder where it will come from too
  16. Completely underwhelming today, serves me right for getting excited last night. Oh so ever so slightly too north and the streamer didn't really have enough intensity. My boss has to drive back to East Grinstead this evening in a sports car - sounds like fun down there
  17. Very cold out there this afternoon, biting graupel showers. Been to "visit" mum at the cemetary. It was looking lovely as there were lots of flowers so have spent an hour or two do some light gardening at the plot whilst doing what we always would on Mothers Day - drinking cava and laughing, but my goodness, how cold it was out there. Couldn't feel fingers or toes by the time we got back. Now settled in with a glass of red and a roaring fire waiting for the countryfile forecast
  18. Just had a graupel shower - it's a promising start as it is still 3.6c out there but dropping quite fast now
  19. Well things are starting to look really interesting. I've held off getting too excited so far, as those channel lows always seem to go south, and streamers are rare, but I think I can now get my hopes up. Ice grips out of the cupboard, waterproof trousers, gaiters, extra layers and snow goggles at the ready - or then again, I might get myself a lift to work on Monday instead of cycling
  20. Looking forward to a useable weekend's weather, and anyone who doesn't have to sit in a office has a good chance of enjoying a good springlike day or two next week. At least I can finally leave work and see a little bit of daylight giving me a taste of the summer evenings to come
  21. Sometimes it is the most sad and tragic of occasions that can create moments that bring a smile to you face and memories to treasure.
