  1. 2008 for me. The years preceding had been warm & sunny months from the mid/end May into June. Julys & Augusts we’re always unpredictable. So we decided to get married in June ‘08 on that basis. However 08 saw the start of ‘summer storms’, where high winds, rain & cold were often the features of June. Our wedding day started pleasant enough with some warm sun. As we came out of church the rain started, photos were taken hastily with umbrellas quickly whipped away before the click of the camera! We all decamped to the village hall (who wants a photo taken on the lovely green anyhow?). It was bloody freezing and the wildest winds came by the evening, blew all the gazebos down! Not that we were bothered, we’d already left for honeymoon . It was localised as when we got down south to Dorset & Cornwall we did have some heat & sun. For years since then, possibly just up until this last year or two, June has often been a wash out, dull & windy. My recollections anyway (not scientifically based).
  2. Has been a very grey, overcast day today. Temps in the region of 20c. Absolutely perfect weather for Driffield Show, no need to find shade and comfortable enough to walk around all day, a lovely day had with friends. Finished off evening with more friends, similar comfortable temps, stopping off at the churchyard on the way home to talk to the tawny owls there
  3. Isn’t it amazing how quickly our perception of heat can change? I’ve woken up to 20c & felt cool, thinking I’ll need a hoodie on my walk! Two weeks ago I would have thought 20c was balmy for this time in a morning . However, the sun is warming up as I’m walking as we speak & it’s feeling very pleasant. A warm breeze to boot (no hoodie required) I’m sure our brains will rewire to the returned norms just as quick
  4. Garden therm is still reading 20c but actually feeling decidedly cool now. Didn’t someone say yesterday about living in Aussie that when you have such high temps such as 40 that even high 20s will feel ‘cool’ afterwards. I suppose it’s about acclimatisation, even after only 2 days. Think I’ll retire from the garden party now…@Wold Topper- any excuse
  5. A good cooling wind made for such a refreshing dog walk this morning. Has dropped now but it’s really pleasant sitting in the garden with my cuppa (as opposed to the house). As much as I’ve absolutely loved the dry ‘holiday’ heat of the day & whilst it’s been beautiful each morning & seeing the wildlife (deer etc) I’m looking forward to more normal temps so I don’t have to get up soooooo early to walk the dogs. It’s not my natural biorhythm
  6. Well you must have had all the breeze cos I couldn’t feel that. Woke up this morning & the air is much cooler outside than in, struggling to get the temp down in the house. Currently at 22c outside & after an hour of having all windows & doors open it’s just getting down to 25c inside.
  7. 7.30pm we were still at 30c 9.30pm dropped to 27/26.5c 10.30pm 25.5c (because you asked so nicely) It is gonna be a hot one tonight. Still as you like out there! I’ve been saying this since Mon, that the forecast was showing the hottest night tonight, with very little drop in temps throughout the whole night. Couldn’t understand why so many were saying it’s just Mon/Tues & oh, can’t wait for Wed….well it looks like it’s gonna a be a slow decline over the next 18/24hrs so keep those fans out tonight 🌡
  8. We’ve topped out at 34c, last reading at 3.40pm. Checked against Staxton Wold station (Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus) & it was comparable . Not sure if it’s a private station or on the RAF site…
  9. Well we topped out at 34c on the Yorkshire Wolds, consistent between 1.45pm & last check at 3.40pm. Checked against Staxton Wold station & this was comparable . Not sure what our record is/was…
  10. 26c at 9.30am. Not as warm as the forecast but then the breeze is picking up now & it feels like that’s drawing the heat up.
  11. The pink clouds this morning were a tease, a few spots of rain but blink & you missed it. Similar temps here, very comfortable at the mo. Let’s see how it goes.
  12. A very warm night, fan left running all night. Didn’t get up to take a temp check . Feeling pleasantly warm to start the day, 18c at 5.45am increased to 20c now (7.15am). Not as feeling as warm as I’d expected, we don’t seem to have any warm breeze as yet pushing up the temp. Had the merest whiff of rain first thing, with a few drops on the patio, but blink & you missed it. Harvest in full flow…
  13. Though you were only wearing your pants tonight, with a towel over your head
  14. You’ve just written exactly what I was about to say to @Aleman!!! A lot fresher than expecting, had windows & doors open for 10 mins to get some air in the house, but of course you have to be prepared for visitors…(ignore the magazine he/she/they are standing on!)
  15. Not bad actually… after watering tonight, the garden thermometer has just dipped under 26c . Thought last night was hot, think it’s down to a single sheet tonight & the fan running.
  16. Some of us are amateurs and using just bog standard thermometers. When you look at the map there are few and far between official recording stations especially in our area. The closest ones are Bridlington, which is coastal and can be very different from the inland wolds, and Beverley (I assume Leconfield) which is lowlands compared to here. So nothing comparable for here so we have to rely on our own recordings
  17. Am I reading the forecast wrong? Everyone keeps talking JUST about Mon/Tue but the forecast has the heat right through til Wed eve, in fact suggests the worse night will be Tues into Wed with very little drop in the high temps overnight. Obviously the forecasts on here are based on GFS etc etc & we’re only 2 days out from Wed now and no change in forecast.I’ve checked different locations with similar results in forecast. So what am I missing???
