Thunderspotter

It's been a while since I've been on this chat, but I'm back! Anything interesting happening? I'm not entirely hopeful for possible storms tonight... Although I could be wrong, like I was last time!

Yesterday I posted a video of the closest C to G lightning strike I've ever witnessed (on camera) and this is now reflected in my video editor! I've just been able to slow it down to frame by frame - Here are the best shots I got. Remember that this is ALL from one continuous lightning strike... It all happened within 1.5 seconds!

I'm so amazed! Also don't mind the moment of panic in the background... Please don't use this without my permission lol :D

A few flashes and first (deep) rumbles of thunder! It seems very loud considering that it's still miles away.

Ok so after a bit of waiting I'm about to get a storm! Lightning arrived just in time, or it would of gone past without a show!

Hi, does anyone know if Southampton will get anything tonight? There's a storm approaching Poole but minimal lightning on the way to me... I don't think tonight is the night!

Does anyone know if the Southampton/Netley area will get some storms tonight? Personally I don't think I have good chances, and most of the storms will hit elsewhere.

Just spotted my first flash! They seem much brighter tonight, i don't know if it's just me or... Well, 'm going to head off now. I've got a storm to watch! I can't wait for it to get closer. Hope you all get a good storm as well and I'll be back tomorrow afternoon about 3pm. This week has been better than 2020 + 2021 storm seasons combined for me... Well, bye everyone - Good luck.

Wow! Clouds look dark here but not that cool! Awesome.

To be honest I didn't think I'd be watching storms tonight. I'm glad to be proven wrong! Storms predicted to become visible in my area at around Half 8... Looks to be smaller than last night's storm by just a tiny bit, but oh well. Looks like the east will be getting a storm tonight, as the development in Northern France seems to have picked up.

I'm doing my final preparations over here: Last minute camera charge, free up some storage, stop editing footage from yesterday, get radars active and charging my phone! This storm hopefully will go wild in Southampton - I'm ready for night 2 of storms!

Does anyone else think that the tail-end of this storm will reach the Isle of Wight/Southampton area? I think i'll be able to see a bit of it as it passes by, but I'm not too sure. What do you think?

That storm in the channel seems to be moving towards Exeter. I'm not very hopeful for this afternoon where I am - Maybe later tonight the radars will spring up like they did yesterday. I was doubting yesterday's storm for hours until it passed directly overhead!

Hi everyone, apologies for the lack of posts. Storm coming to more of a close here and I take back everything I said about not having hope in this storm! Probably the loudest ever storm: All on camera. Explosive thunder, not much CG lightning but still incredible. I can't wait to share my clips! I never expected a thunderstorm tonight so it leaves me with very high hopes for the days to come. Good luck to you all bout to get a storm. Make sure to share your clips tomorrow! Lightning is bright but thunder distant and moving away over here. Not looking great further into tonight - Unless this big storm moves directly North I might head to bed. Still pretty good though!

I didn't see it, but strikes now being picked up on the Isle of Wight. Right, time to sit down and have a look...

I'm not giving up hope just yet, but I don't think tonight will be the night to see a storm where I am, overlooking the Isle of Wight. Maybe if things continue to build up, but I'm unsure. I'd rather get some sleep for tomorrow nights just in case there's a big storm then!

Activity under Weymouth where the heavy rain is. Could turn decent as time moves on. - I'm guessing. I am relatively new here, so take what i say with a pinch of salt!

A lightning strike just shy of the Isle of Wight? Is that a false positive, or are we seeing some further developments? I hope so.

I'm guessing that the Cherbourg storm is heading towards the direction of Bognor Regis - Unless it develops over the channel and pushes further north... Typically, Bognor Regis is just outside of my viewing area! I'm getting convinced that one of my neighbours has a bottle of 'thunderstorm repellent' somewhere...
