  1. The terrain limiting winds is such an interesting phenomenon. I live on an elevation but my actual street is at the bottom of a hill. My house is fairly sheltered ,I can hear the roaring in the distance a few streets away but it's *relatively* calm around me. Would be an interesting study to do as to how it works locally.
  2. 84mph in central Scotland near the M8. https://twitter.com/SeanBattyTV/status/1749208220512510231?s=19
  3. Is it peaking slightly earlier? GFS and apps show here that this is the peak and falling slightly by midnight?
  4. What's the weather map/app that some people have been positing screnshots of that shows the lines of wind?
  5. Pretty wild now, rain is off but winds really picked up. Giant treee down right across the road around the corner from me.
  6. I would say so far, here anyway that the rain has been a much bigger problem than the wind . That's IMBY and I know it may get much worse later.
  7. Trains have been cancelled from 7pm this evening and there's no rush hour trains either tomorrow . ScotRail are taking it serioslusly.
  8. Yeah, just so far. Expecting worse later but the rain is bad enough, very heavy for hours now.
  9. Anecdotally it doesn't seem that bad here,.wet and windy yes but I've seen worse so far this winter. Of course it may get worse later this evening.
  10. Strange, there was about 4 or 5 go around when I was watching about an hour ago, planes rocking too.
  11. I'll be underwater by then, my garden is like a lake so far!
  12. Maybe heading your way soon, definitely getting wild here now.
  13. Plenty of go arounds already, planes look like they're struggling.
  14. Some of these landings on Bigjet look "fun". Been on a plane landing in a storm before and and you could feel the pilot fighting against the wind.
  15. Torrential rain here in the Central belt of Scotland and has been for about an hour or so Winds don't seem too bad so far quite light tbh, locally anyway. Guess the strong winds will come later.
  16. I live just to the south of Glasgow on a hill and we usually get the worst of any weather as were slightly higher up. Along the M8 corridor is usually bad too.
  17. I live beside quite a few trees , the highest being really, really massive. Always fun and concerning at the same time watching it in a storm hoping it doesn't come down on us! I remember when I was young , I had a massive pine tree in my garden and it would literally almost double over in high winds, its roots were at an angle up and out of the ground because of the high wind westerlies!
  18. Don't think track details will be firmed up until tomorrow. Still quite a way out.
  19. I was looking at their graphic on Twitter and thinking that myself, the wind speed graphic didn't correspond to the Amber warning. Looked strange to me but they're probably hedging their bets and widening the warning.
  20. Watching the models, I had a feeling this was creeping up on us a bit without much notice. Hopefully it'll be downgraded as we get closer to the time as this could be quite damaging.
  21. This storm coming in on Sunday/Monday seems quite severe for there to be so few headlines about it? I know the MetO have a yellow warning out but it sort of seems to be creeping up on us, would've thought there'd be some downgrades in the models now but theyre sticking to it being quite destructive.
