As a matter of interest, did the Government use the now infamous emergency alert system anywhere for Ciarán?

As said in the other thread, 946 from my Bresser station is a new record, then! Looking back at the telltale, the lowest was actually 945.3 at 08:15 this morning. PS IN terms of calibration, I have a Kestrel calibrated 5400 heat stress tracker that reads the same within 0.2hPa.

Currently pressure a slightly remarkable 966.4hPa, gusty winds but nothing above 24mph as yet and 8.8mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Flood alerts to the hotel half a mile away which is a bit close for comfort. Unfortunately the track appears to be swinging up now, with the eye looking to make landfall over Bournemouth/Poole.

Babette seems to be moving north more rapidly than predicted; the rain has almost cleared the south coast already (21:30z) although interestingly there is a small onshore effect with rain appearing as the southern flank crosses the coast. -
Reefseeker, you are better off with a waterproof 'coat' round your camera than struggling with an umbrella. All your attention will be on controlling that, especially if it gets a bit blowy, rather than focusing on the livestream. Remember to try to set up so the wind is blowing any rain from behind you, use a lens hood to minimise drops on the lens. I woke up at 3am today sweltering. There was a hot wind blowing quite strongly from the west, and the weather station recorded a high of 19.4 deg C with a gust of wind of 16mph - and then it rained unexpectedly 2 hours later! This is now the third consecutive night when it is as hot if not hotter than the day. That would be odd for July, but the end of September?
