  1. I dont think the Siberian High is close enough, the Azores high is the dominate feature and building, almost to far north you expect it in the middle of the summer to be in that position , and the Jet is to strong and the Warm front is to close, i really cant see a Easterly developing, perhaps a S.W, S, I love the snow, i am a big kid, i will stay up all night if i know there will be snow i cant see it happening, out of interest what intensity is the Siberian high at present? sorry i am not being a killjoy
  2. Weather on Line are going for a mild wet week next week, no mention of an Easterly and certainly no snow, just mild and wet
  3. If this came off from the Snow charts there will be widespread panic, i wonder what the Daily Panic headline be the day before??
  4. Back in the dinosaur times namely the 80s when we didnt have computers or internet etc we relied on the BBC forecast or the only way we could see charts was to go up to Holborn to the Met Office, and very often these snowy events never turned up, nearly all the time it just surprised people and we had to get on with life , back in the 80s we had two major snow events one i remember cut Southend off, and we had snow about three feet deep nobody could drive, we had to walk, not sure what the shops did? we had a freezer my Mum stocked about two months of food in it, so we didnt have any problem there. I remember the Azores high joined with the Siberian high and low afer low went north or just developed over the med this i remember lasted about three to four weeks it just snowed ,the temp was about minus five( by day) the Jet broke through via the North and broke the high in two but took about a month, what would happen nowadays? must have been 1984/5? anybody remember this event in the SE? Where has the Easterly gone, got the Azores high building again across us now?
  5. Certainly send Crude sky high, we wont be moaning about Gas Bills more how much petrol and Diesel will be like.
  6. Contrtyfile getting wet and windy and mild Azores high building in, no mention of a Easterly like the GFS is hinting  Temps later in week average
  7. Countryfile Weather soon, interesting watch i reckon, BBC SE said mild until Thursday 9oc No mention of a Easterly
  8. I reckon a cool SE wind with dull merky weather, dont think any Snow Showers from S.E, certainly a improvement from a SW
  9. I have noticed there are quite a few bulbs coming up already, is spring arriving early
  10. Mr Fish has only said Snow in the North and slightly becoming colder, certainly no major Snow event the way things are going i reckon he could be possibly right
  11. Im not being a killjoy, it seems to change every run,
  12. Quote about Rob Once again the BBC seems to have mistaken the icing for the cake. Rob McElwee is the longest-serving of the corporation’s weather forecasters, but after next month we shall no longer see him on our screens. If no one has suggested he try Botox or dye his greying locks, his banishment is of a piece with a wider trend for ditching older broadcasters who know what they are talking about, in favour of younger ones with a slicker, more superficial approach. British interest in the weather is deeper than asking whether we need an umbrella next day. As Allison Pearson has suggested in these pages, viewers feel a “bond of trust†with such an established forecaster. They do not deserve to be talked down to. Rob McElwee brings enthusiasm for the science of weather to a generation no longer satisfied with tapping the barometer in the hall. He must be saved for the nation.
  13. Great to see that  Mind you Helen is up there nice to see her fist thing in the morning
  14. Found out he was put in the cupboard Rob presented his final forecast on BBC1 on 10 January 2011, during which he forecast rain with chances of snow for most of the UK. He ended the forecast saying, "'Till then, a bit of snow still. That's it from me. That's it from me, really. Goodnight." He was moved to backroom forecasting duties by the Met Office as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
  15. Thats him, what happened to Rob Mcelwee? does anybody know? probably put in a cupboard with all the others? have a challenge since 1980 name all the BBC Forecasters???
  16. I did say earlier there is always a forecaster who always says something forgotten who was one of the BBC forecasters who was taken off recently who loved the cold and snow that the BBC didnt like?? Must be fun in the Met Office at the moment, probably damned if we dont, damned if we do!!
  17. Just noticed all the Snow has gone off the snow forecast maps again and is now rain Back to the window again!!! and streetlamp watching, seems to be the only reliable forecast
  18. Has the Met Office mentioned it at all yet!! they do sometimes hint :winky: Depends on the forecaster.
  19. Nobody seems to know, including the runs what is happening? typical English winter everything is fine when the Atlantic is flowing, but when a pebble is chucked in , it can go anywhere, suppose it is the fun of the English weather
  20. Cant believe how things have changed namely the GFS, almost a blocking patten happening, not perfect yet but will be waiting for the updates, wonder how the Met Office will see it? they wont mention it yet im sure, proper cold not that far away
  21. GFS has gone for the Zonal weather again, certainly no Easterlies Trying to struggle in but being pushed aside by the Jet and mild weather, only a NW when the cold front goes through, I wonder if it will change? every chart seems different I dont think i will be getting my sledge out quite yet!!
  22. Forgotten what frost is?? Looks like a few days of cold. then back to zonal weather again, then a cold westerley flow
  23. John Hammond said last night, Bulbs etc have missed a season. but i am sure we will be paying for it a bit later on in the month, does he know something that we are only getting hints
  24. Very soon unless we get some cold air the trees and plants will start blooming, my grass needs cutting already
