  1. Meteorologist Mika Rantanen said: "Summer will extend 30 days by 2050 in Finland (and all of Northern Europe in general). Meanwhile winters overall get more shorter that every 3 years there won't even be winter. Here are some maps, especially Western side will be warm.
  2. B87 What I meant, it's actually wet over there. Maybe there will only be a total of a month a year when days in one year are actually dry.
  3. I feel bad for you. In the UK you expect wet all the time. There are rare occasions where you're like "Finally, there will be dry weather for a week".
  4. In my area there's rain and 3 degrees. It's not as bad where you have around 15 degrees. That's actually pretty good. Not hot but not cold either.
  5. Rain in Southern Finland right now. Temperatures around 3 degrees so it's not feeling pleasant. Snow will however melt quickly. Currently only 5 cm of snow left. I really hope there won't be another winter situation this spring. However next week will look promising anyway with temperatures nearly 20 degrees
  6. Update: 20 degrees is now forecasted for next Wednesday so it's delayed yet another day. Typical...
  7. AderynCoch Winters used to be longer. Even when it's possible to see them lasting long even now, averagely winters are getting shorter.
  8. The melting already starts tomorrow with rain. Forecast models say that 20 degrees could happen next Tuesday.
  9. SunnyG Yeah, 20 degrees is possible for next week. So weird, I've never seen a situation that after snow it already feels like Summer. It's only taking a week until we can wear t-shirts and shorts.
  10. I don't think I've ever seen something like this: 30cm of snow in Finland but there could already be 20 degrees next week as warmer air pushes in from the South. Climate is really quickly make changes to the weather in such a short period of time. Especially since we're between Atlantic and Continental. There have always been quick changes but these differences will become much more quicker in short amount of time now.
  11. At least you don't get snow so late. 30 cm snow this late is just insane for Southern Finland. This isn't Lapland.
  12. According to the article, mild continues? Yes for this weekend but it will actually get cold next week. However even with cold air, temperatures during the day in the South will have freeze free temperatures due to warming sun for this time of the year.
  13. It's not that great in my country either. Sure, snow helps for a couple of months a year but overall the entire weather for the most part of the year is cloudy and it's depressing to look at. You can expect more sunny weather in Spain though. However it's not as rainy as it is in the UK. There's at least that.
  14. Currently 17.8 degrees in my house with 0.5 degrees outside. It's actually very comfortable. Trying to save money as heating was on for a few months. Looks like for the next few weeks I don't have to put heating back on since -10 temps outside is unlikely right now so I hope I can make it through without heating until next December.
  15. A little over 36 degrees in 2010, believe it or not, in Finland. I haven't traveled much outside my country. I only visit Baltics and Nordic countries.
  16. Forecast for the next few days in Finland: Tuesday and Wednesday have a break from rain which is needed because of it being wet with sleet on the ground. Temperatures freezing outside of Western and Southern parts of the country where temperatures in some places get to 2 degrees. A few days ago it looked like the next low pressure was coming on Thursday but due to forecast changes it now misses us and goes from our South to Eastern Europe. Weather dry with temperatures mostly freezing but again in the South a few degrees of plus degrees. Even if rest of the week will have dry weather, due to many tens of centimetres of snow melting with warmer temperatures in the South, that could have some problems.
  17. TonyH It could have even been earlier than that. I apologize if my grandmother lied but I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose. Maybe the wrong decade was in mind.
  18. andymusic Interesting, it shows that where I live snow is gone by then. Also it makes sense because forecast changed entirely. It looked like cold was coming and dry. But now Southerly winds continue and there will be rain . Rain really helps the snow to melt. That's too early for Scandinavia. I'm laughing right now.
  19. The average temperature is rising. Of course, some winters might be colder than average but we can't only look on what happens during one winter. We need to look in the overall picture. These are my reasons for those who don't believe in climate change but really is warming: 1) UK recently had a new all time temperature record. 2) All of the Baltics are snow free which is just too early for this time of year. Temperatures nearly 15 degrees in some places possibly for after next week but that of course can change. 3) Sea has been record warm. 4) Winters have become shorter, that's mostly noticeable in Northern Europe, Russia and Canada. My grandmother told me that during her time winter lasted for 5 months a year most of the time back in the 1960s and 70s. Winters currently only last averagely for 3 months. 5) Most of the countries record new high temperatures more and more often each year.
  20. WYorksWeatherYes, Scandinavian blocking seems to arrive over Western Russia for next week meaning that at least Finland will be dry. However the air isn't particularly cold as temperatures get to freezing only at nights while during the day will be freezing free in the South and Central parts of the country. So at the end of the day the wind direction likely won't come from the North East so you most likely won't see very cold tempeatures. The wind looks to come from the South East which is much more warmer for this time of year. So yeah, no beast from East so far but we'll see exactly what happens soon. But again, I don't think it's possible.
  21. I feel like I've seen something like this: UK people want winter all the time due to endless rain. Northern Europe wants winter to end already and miss the rain. When snow melts it's going to be much more wet here than it will be for you when it rains. It depends how much you'll get but usually it's not that bad outside of storms for you. For me it's much hard to move in the snow than to move in the rain. You can use an umbrella for that to not get wet. There's 50 cm of snow here. Isn't that more than enough? Geez, everyone I know is tired of winter.
  22. In the coming days the freezing free temperatures continue during the day. But there's freezing temperatures at night. Not very cold but still freezing. Forecast also tells that there could be high pressure next week meaning that Finland will be dry. Winds come from the South East so it's not really a beast from the East. That would need a North Easterly wind for that to happen. So in short: Cold nights, warm afternoons. The low pressure tries to move in but they move from the Baltics to Western direction over to Sweden most of the week.
  23. Low pressure arrives to Finland from the South right now. It starts as sleet but tonight in the South East rain amount could be up to 20 mm! A lot so it means there will be a lot of water on the roads due to heavy rain and snow melting at the same time. In the South West most of the low pressure will be sleet but snow depth won't increase anyway due to it being around 0 degrees. So yeah, West road of Helsinki will have more mixed rain and the East of Helsinki will have a lot of rain coming up. If you think the UK is so wet, you won't be that bad for at least today and perhaps tomorrow. Jet stream still over Sweden meaning we are still in the warmer side of the jet.
  24. High pressure might be coming but it won't get much cold. Even Scandinavia isn't going to be cold with some Easterlies. However it seems to come from the South East which for this time of year brings in mild air, unlike January.
  25. raz.org.rain Actually that is most likely true. For the last 5 or so years snow has randomly just melted even in the winter. Sad but true that the UK climate is slowling going towards more North and the East.
