  1. Metwatch OK fair enough. Just noticed my usual stalker's keeping a close eye on things, again.
  2. Metwatch That's fine. I'm quite used to having any data that I provide being disparaged, even when it's from the Met Office (2023's temperature figures being the last). I'll know better than to comment about my own real-world experiences in one particular month over a few recent years again. Have a nice day.
  3. CryoraptorA303 I don't dispute any of what you say, but as I fish the rivers every week I can't deny what I see with my own eyes. The sample size wasn't meant to demonstrate long-term anything, only to relate to my own comment re: recent years, which is obviously open to interpretation but would constitute less than ten AFAIC.
  4. Metwatch I noticed you omitted the part of my quote which said at a time when in recent years we've had increased heat and reduced rainfall. The time being now, the month of May, not whole years. I'm fully aware how wet the winters have been. Actual reduced rainfall in May, the consequence of which I experience first hand, is born out by the data showing the overall negative deviation from the mean for the month over recent years, which is what I originally stated.
  5. Metwatch Maybe these stats don't capture the "feel "of it for me then. That's what I always get told when I reference any that conflict with popular opinion on here. My own perception is that rainfall's been fairly close to normal, erring on thr drier side, for the last ten years or so, except for the previous eighteen months. I base this mainly on fishing the midland rivers every week of the season, except for this last winter when they've been flooded nearly all the time. I find the river levels to be a reliable indicator of the amount of rain we've had. The last time I can remember the rivers being unseaonally high for any length of time was 2012. Anyway, it'll probably stop later and dry up tomorrow.
  6. Metwatch So irrespective of the seasons, 2022 had reduced rainfall.
  7. In Absence of True Seasons didn't say we needed it. I just happen to enjoy it at a time when in recent years we've had increased heat and reduced rainfall.
  8. simshady especially when it's warm, like it usually is
  9. *Stormforce~beka* It's been sunny all week here but clouding over now. Even Friday when 85-90% cloud cover was forecast and would have been ideal for laying some protection on the cars after I'd cleaned them it was still blazing sunshine all day. The only time the sun was obscured was when a distribution warehouse on an industrial complex about five miles away went up in flames on Thursday morning. Watering every evening with the hose at the moment.
  10. *Stormforce~beka* That's what I don't like. Boom to bust as it were. People complain if we're 2 or 3 degrees below average temps but 8 degrees or so above is apparently fine.
  11. Another lovely fresh sunny start but doesn't look like it will last: Cannock businesses told to evacuate due to large fire WWW.BBC.CO.UK Residents are also urged to close windows and doors due to the smoke from the fire in Cannock.
  12. Sunny all afternoon with the air warm enough for the first swift sightings of the year and four buzzards lazily circling on the thermals. Great for garden/outside jobs and plenty hot enough for me.
  13. LetItSnow! Makes a change from winter, when there's a posse that turns up just to moan about the posters interpreting suggested outcomes in the MOD thread. Funny thing is they don't seem bothered, or driven to comment, when the projected model scenarios fail to materialise in any other season of the year.
  14. Alderc 2.0 That's tough, hope your dog's alright.
  15. In Absence of True Seasons I'd give my right arm to be able to walk my dog in the rain once again. Handsome looking dog by the way.
  16. *Stormforce~beka* I didn't think you were, sorry for any confusion.
  17. SunnyG Fully agree, and that's one of the reasons I prefer colder winters. I just found complaining about how wet it's been for the last year and then wanting weather conditions that would lead to more of it something of a paradox. I'll know better than to question such things in future.
  18. So, asking someone who's unhappy with how wet everywhere is why they wish for more rain is either a "pile on", alcohol/cider driven, or an attack on their weather preferences. Got it.
  19. NEVES SCREAMER Irrespective of what you like, or my preference, I don't see the logic in lamenting the amount of rain earlier in the year and then going on to hope for more of it throughout winter, as you did.
  20. NEVES SCREAMER You hadn't noticed the mild wet autumn when you wanted the mild wet winter?
