  1. Which, to me, illustrates why its a problem and why planetary degradation has only just begun. Because for must of us it is impossible to change. But, there are consequences of that impossibility we, you me all of us, will face - and costs greater than the impossible ones you me and the rest face now. What price is the environment? What future do we want? We've chosen to take a chance, to ignore the warning and implications of rock solid science and evidence. In a way I don't mind (what can one man do?) though I still object to people wrecking MY planet because they have 'no option' other than to do so.
  2. Yes, some interesting points. I believe the power of vacuum cleaners is considerable less than in the past, for the same cleaning power. I guess it's technological advance. Undoubtedly, though, people fly more than they did when I was a child - but again children are being taken on flights not taking their parents. The average uk house uses less and less energy every year.
  3. Can you provide a reference I can read to support your view? If, that is, you don't think something else might be at play atm...
  4. The latest report on the oceans and cryosphere from the IPCC is due out this week.
  5. My bad, 16 it is then. I dunno, I just can't bring myself to hate her. Anyway, back to sea ice eh?
  6. What are you trying to say about me? I laugh a lot a climate sceptics, extremists, and comedy I like. Perhaps you've learnt from your Australian commentator that when you don't like the evidence people present you attack the people presenting it?
  7. Always be aware of tu quoque... Sneering at people because of what they say wont change whether they are right or wrong. Nor does it provide solutions. Especially as the man doing the sneering doesn't have the faintest intention of doing anything himself bar sneer (or indeed, I'd guess) accept the reality of what is going on... Otoh, I guess if we blame everyone bar ourselves things will be ok.....
  8. It starts with a clearly biased spinning of what the protestors are saying ('we're all going to die in 11 years' - no, they're not saying that...) and then O'Neil is talking about 'fundamentalist cults'. Further insults and abuse follows, plenty of 'whataboutism' too. Indeed, I'm now five minutes in and it's more like two right wing blokes ranting on...Now they're ad homming Thunberg, sigh... There was zero, absolutely zero, discussion of the evidence. data and observations - that would interfere with the political message talk radio and O'Neil are pushing. As to 'positive steps we can take to help the planet'? Zero. I haven't bothered with any more of their bias and propaganda.
  9. Every word has to be so precisely put doesn't it 'Socks made of an artificial fibre derived, in most cases, from fossil fuels' it is then
  10. I should have added earlier that I've moved to wearing more wool clothing. I bought some pure wool socks and they are, compared to cotton or plastic, absolutely fantastic. I will, however, have to learn how to darn...
  11. Well, perhaps you should know I live with (and increasingly care for) my parents who are both well into their eighties! AND, I am deeply concerned about what is happening to our planet. I follow the evidence (eg), I'm not part of a fraud, or a ponzi scheme or a communist/marxist, or a 'woke', or trying to start a tyranny, or seeking to imprison people and reeducate them. The evidence (about climate change, about species and habitat decline and loss), is (and I've thought about this for myself) is solid, all around us and frankly impossible to ignore. And on the positive lifestyle front? My car is ten years old, has done 110K @ more than 50mpg, I last flew in the 90s, I have a bike I use when I can, i shop locally, I try to reduce plastic usage, I try not to sneer at people doing their best and I'm a member of various pressure groups (not of the party affiliations you've mentioned) but which I wont name for fear of reprisals.
  12. Is it? Well, you've lost me again I'm afraid. I see no such general view. Btw are your posts serious or wind ups?
  13. You've lost me, how are they being 'taught to show disrespect for the old' and by who? And what is a 'woke'?
  14. That exceptions are simply that and focusing on them is misleading. One, tiny, place in the Arctic has more ice than usual - so WUWT and MIA focus on that. Why?????
  15. I suggest we look at the current extent maps. All over the Arctic sea ice has shrunk way back from the normal extent EXCEPT for a tiny area around the east coast of Spitzbergen where there is indeed more ice than usual. Amazing.
  16. I would be surprised to see your evidence countered by different evidence - which leave what you suggest as the only kind of reply we seem to get to evidence.
  17. If we've reached the years low ice extent it would be a record early date for that. I doubt we have reached that minimum.
  18. I don't think the NAO is a cause of anything, it's a measure of pressure differential, it is something that happened. Is a cricketer doing well because of his high batting average? Nope. Why does the NAO fluctuate? Because the pressure field across the N Atlantic fluctuates and taking a simply pressure difference between two point can be used to produce an index we call the NAO. Since it only has two points I think the NAO is a really crude measure. So the NAO index crudely reflects what the N Atlantic weather has been doing. But, you can model what the state of the atmosphere in the N Atlantic will be and thus predict what the pressure differential between two points will be. Thus prediction of the NAO are simply another way of looking at what the computers are saying.
