  1. Take a look at the satellite loop of France, show how convection is firing up in bands from West to East - wonder if its these that are to drift North towards us? http://www.sat24.com/fr
  2. Just had a very light shower from what seems to be high ACcas, together with alot of virga and hazy messyness!! Doesn't feel as warm as yesterday from the direct sunshine, but is humid so making it feel very sticky. Certainly the SW of England and Southern Wales look prime for storm activity over the next 24 hours, so im in the right place then
  3. Just goes to show the cooling effect as we approach the late evening, some potential late cells in Devon/South West have now very quickly dissipated according to radar.
  4. Amazing day of storms for alot of the UK. Had some down here and can say I have heard my first thunder for 2009! Some of the cloud formations have been excellent and the radar looks crazy!
  5. Still no rain here as yet - its only 15 or so miles away. Very interesting cloud formations to my west though, the sort you see during a typical 'plume' scenario. High and 'bubbly' underneath to them similar to a blanket of cotton wool. Must be very unstable air up there
  6. Sferics spotted near to Exeter this morning associated with some very heavy rain fall in Devon. Also thunderstorm reported near to Tiverton
  7. Just been outside for a walk.......blimey, almost a foot of snow tbh. A farmer with a snow plough is trying to clear some of the roads around here but isn't really succeeding. Snow is still falling although its more grainy in nature. Ilminster is almost impassable and most roads around here are closed. Police advice is not to travel!
  8. Unbelievable amount of snow has fallen here overnight, and its still falling too. All major roads around here (M5 and A303) are either closed or lanes closed and accidents blocking the others! Certainly no let up in the snow either. I don't think I will be working today (coach driver).
  9. Heavy snow still falling, went to move the car to a better location earlier (parked on bend on a hill.....not a good idea) saw the biggest flakes for a long time in almost whiteout conditions. Pretty sure I saw a flash of lightning too. Already it seems a deeper amount than Tuesday.
  10. Hi guys, just to report we were having sleet, but pretty sure its turned to snow now, covering the cars and roads quite readily now. BTW anyone else having problems with Netweather loading?
  11. Hmmmm, well I reckon I will get just rain or possibly sleet for South Somerset, much greater risk the further North of the county you go - esp. Bristol Northwards. Have to wait and see, but not getting my hopes up. Saying that though, there looks to be a greater risk of snow down here Thursday night into Friday as the rain/snow band pushes back down south and east.
  12. Unfortunately, and I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but this band will consist of rain tbh. We are just too far.....South West for the rain to turn to snow. To confirm I was in Wellington at around 8:30 and its was starting to drizzle rain, instead of that 'dandruff' stuff that was falling Monday afternoon. To make matters worse, the sun is out here and temperatures are starting to lift more now, was barely around freezing early this morning so goodness knows what it is now. Far too 'mild' for snow me thinks
  13. Sod the snow for now, its the ice im worried about tonight. Its a proper ice skating rink out there now
  14. serious amount of snow has fallen here over the last few hours, the most I've seen for a long time. Was following 2 gritters on the A358 back from Taunton earlier complete with a snow plough!!. Not overly heavy snow falling but its a constant amount. Very still outside with an orange sky. Nobody driving about - seems very strange.
  15. Ah this is more like it, nice and reasonably heavy snow shower now. Skies look much grayer than most of the morning, so bodes well for later.
  16. Just got back from work, Ilminster and surrounding area MAY have had the lightest of dusting's during the night, but further North towards Taunton and then down to Wellington it has seen nothing. Just a waiting game now.
  17. As the title says this is one mighty close lightning strike - and just listen to the thunder WORD OF WARNING - Don't turn your speakers/headphones up too loud! and it does contain a swear word - well wouldn't you after filming this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNitMTtQt2Y
  18. Seems to be a lot more focus on boiling/conserving water now - water supplies seem to be much more affected than previously estimated (or just standard precautions) + the fact that most of Houston is without power now too
  19. Buffalo Bayou (Stream/Creek to us UKers!) is now overflowing its banks in Houston - most other Bayous very close to overflowing now. The southern edge of the storm is taking slower to clear North than first thought. More bands of rain/thunderstorm keep forming and rotating from west to east almost like its 'backbuilding'.
  20. Just come back after a day on Lyme Regis coast - only half an hour away - lucky me! It was absolutely heaving and it must have been the busiest I've ever seen the beach. There were queues of traffic just trying to get into the town :o and parking was atrocious! Never mind, it was really nice down there and took a few photos for you to enjoy - BTW Im a lobster Pretty sure there was a space on the sand somewhere?? And here is a link to a nice webcam that's situated on the Cobb itself - useful if you want a trip down there and want to know what the weather will be like http://www.lymeregiswebcam.com/ then click on 'view live video' link just underneath the snapshot window.
  21. Another great little website from the makers of the UK wind map is this one for the SW Central US - gets updated every 30 minutes and shows the current sustained windspeed and other data from sensors. http://windmapper.com/?Loc=CW
  22. Just a quick one to say I have a link here for the Brownsville area of South Texas News/Weather - this area is looking likely to be almost a direct hit from Dolly, so I'm tending to view this site from time to time to keep up-to-date on the latest developments. http://www.krgv.com/ Better stick a link up for Corpus Christi too, just incase. http://www.kristv.com/
  23. To be fair the news was probably 99% right - why - because it said Ilminster was one of areas worst affected, but we had no flooding issues as far as I can gather, yes we had the torrential rain, but no serious flooding unlike 5 miles down the road in Crewkerne. Thats a different story altogether.
  24. Oooo, they look much better than the original ones, although lets hope they redesigned the battery cover to be a little more durable. I remember when I purchased mine off Paul on here because he found a few at home, he sent me a couple extra battery covers because they break easily..........No kidding
  25. Thunderstorm here for the last hour now, frequent lightning/very loud thunder earlier, but died off now. Torrential Rain for most of the hour and continuing now.
