  1. I'm seriously thinking of heading east tomorrow, for what would be my first proper UK chase.

Being quite close to the main risk area, I'm hoping I can wait for initiation before leaving.

At the moment looks like heading towards south Humberside or North Lincolnshire might be best, but obviously that could all change.

  2. Might come to this with my girlfriend. We have a bit of experience of camping. If we can do it on the North York Moors in February in gales and sleet I'm sure we can manage on the south coast in July!

I need to make sure I can afford it nearer the time, but I would definitely like to go.

I've never been anywhere on the south coast apart from Dover.

this might be FI but look at the temperature contrast between the midlands and France, i bet the cold wins out and the south ends up cool as well while france basks in the heat.

Yeah I noticed that, especially in this chart...

20C spread from N England to S England... WOW!!!

I don't think I've seen such a contrast at any range on the charts.

  4. Lets hope we at least get some Upslope Play, there was a similar pattern in 2009 and we still managed 10 chase days

I guess you are referring to tour 3 2009?

I loved every minute of it, and it was a very quiet pattern with only slight risks and 'see texts' but you and Nick got us on storms every day!

Hopefully something similar can happen this time, if things do go quiet over there for the early tours.

  5. Never had any heating on here since we moved in last July and even had the windows open at times during winter.

Its a really warm flat, we are south facing on the 3rd of 5 floors so it's always warm here.

For example now it's 22C, it rarely gets below 18C even with the window open.

It's bad in summer though, on sunny days it's easily over 30C and sometimes up to 35C, and even at night I've know it to be still around 30C after midnight, so not pleasant for sleeping!

  6. No thunderstorms yet at Cleadon (although the shower that I had this evening produced some sferics not far to the SW). I wouldn't be particularly bothered about it if I'd had some good convective skyscapes and sharp hail showers, but as often happens here the North Sea coastal influences have often made the weather relatively benign and uninteresting.

However the next two days look very promising here in the North East and this evening's downpour was hopefully a taste of things to come, it produced an impressive shelf cloud at one stage.

Yes I am very envious of the wind convergence you will have over the next two days, that should really help things up there.

Wish I was home this weekend I would love to have done some long timelapses, the cloud movement should be really interesting.

Still chances here over the next few days but after the last few days of disappointment I won't be building my hopes up. Good luck up there though!

Been watching the radar for a while now and there is some very heavy rain staying around the same area just north and north west of Nottingham.

Its losing intensity a little now but there must be some high rainfall totals under that, it's been around for at least 2 hours.

No storms again here today, and there has been none all week. Just one heavy rain and hail shower earlier.

Going back to this area of rain I mentioned earlier, it intensified again in the same area, and still remains sitting in around the same place just north east of Nottingham.

Here is the radar showing accumulation for the last 12 hours, maybe 40-50mm, most of it in the last 4 hours.

Showing no signs of stopping still.

  7. Literally fresh out the camera so not done any editing yet, but an hour & half ago we had the biggest and best Mammatus display I can remember for a long time here in the western Peak District. Not had time to read the rest of the forum since I last left, that's simply how good it was.

    Wow that's amazing!

Not been a good day here today, just 2 distant rumbles heard.

Most of the action was west then east of here, and the shower that did actually hit bang on had lost a lot of it's intensity.

    Cloudy with moderate rain now.

    Oh well maybe next time!
