  1. Good evening...

Very angry looking cloud base approaching here from the NW through all the mushy haze, again suprised to see thundery activity has popped up on my doorstep, plenty of congesting cumulus about through the haze too.

Radar suggests activity has already weakened over the London area, as was the case yesterday storms are of the pulse variety with evidently weak flow not helping, yesterday I watched a dramatic line of congesting cumulus which persisted to the West in the evening, each tower would shoot vertically then collapse.

  2. Good morning all...

Angry looking out to my West and some ditsant rumbles of thunder, if you're in London at the moment Harry you may be right, some major convection kicking off especially to my North this morning, and the storm to my West over the city has pushed out quite a lot of outflow overhead so its going very grey while turning black out West.

Looks to be moving NNE, watch out up the M11. :nonono:

EDIT: Also rapid development of convection to my distant NNE, radar shows it just beyond Chemlsford, towers grew rapidly and have started putting out an anvil. Another closer rumble from the London storm too.

EDIT: Weak gust front pushing NE'wards out ahead of the rain, very fast moving with lots of ragged scud.

Whole thing seems to have weakened very rapidly.

  3. Afternoon all.

Torrential downpours around East London at the moment with what sounds like distant thunder, through the mist I can see some fairly tall convection in a clear space to my North.

    We needed that rain. :drinks:

EDIT: The mass is now to my S and SE, very low and muddy cloud bases and what looks like some small hail shafts developing. Interesting to note cloud and scud on the North/nearside of the storm is moving quickly Eastwards while on the South side it is moving Westwards, certainly some chaotic inflow/outflow movement about then?

EDIT: Possible rain free area with some motion but hidden behind houses, certainly in the right place on the back end of the cell and lots of scud moving in opposite directions past eachother.

I'd keep an eye on that if you're in S Essex or N Kent, the area where the scud motion is right under the updraft base which looks fairly strong.

  4. Morning all, nice videos.

Back from Bath where it was nice and sunny on Wednesday morning after early rain, but heading East on the train things cut up rather rough after Swindon and I encountered a tremendous line of downpour moving South Eastwards with a lovely long East-West gust front and a slight green tinge around slough, some lightning evident and thunder was still crashing away when I reached Paddington with some impressive rain, things had died by the time I got up the East end of town though. :)

Lightning wasn't exactly mega but the rain was of an intensity we haven't seen in a long time and the cloud structure was good once the train got through to the SE'ern side of it, now I'd putting your head out the door window of an 100mph train during a downpour is not advisable. :whistling:

  5. No longer jshaw?

I'm not sure if that's the cold front or the trough ahead of it tbh, very difficult to make out what's what now, all very messy. What is certain - Kent looks like staying dry.

Indeed, about time for a name change. :D

Yeah quite right its a messy picture, although something definately passed through here as a cool westerly picked up for a short while.

Looks like a fair amount of low level cloud about now too.

  6. Amazing.....did that one clip the SE of the UK?

I'd imagine it might've done, from that area of the French coast you can see Kent easily, and if not, the storm behing it in the photo certainly did. :cray:

EDIT: In the second photo you can just about see what I think is the Kent coast as the darkened area just to the West of centre.

Theres plenty more fantastic French storm photos over on there going back years.

  7. Afternoon ladies and gents.

Slightly OT but I came across something that may interest you on infoclimat's public photo gallery from last night. I know some of our friends in Kent had some fun under this bunch.
