  1. Odd that here in East London we've had a very thundery summer, early summer had some home grown storms with very powerful and frequent lightning, imports have been fairly weak this year and we've had a few rather weak storms in between, but a lot more storms than 07 or 08.

    Been rather quiet recently though.

  2. I was in Normandy that week and it hit 40C there, before we got a brilliant display of AcCas for a day or two, there never was a thunderstorm though, but I think we had a few near misses. I remember the following week in France being relatively cool, breezy and wet.

  3. Dull with quite a strong Westerly breeze, and lots of scud blowing past too, lovely and refreshing, do you think perhaps the cooler air is starting to undercut the warm air in my area? I doubt it seeing as the front is still some way West.

Or perhaps its cool outflow pushing out of the convective cells to my West.

Things look like they're finally shoving Eastwards, good I say, the heavy air is making me feel 'orrible.

  4. Looks like something weak perhaps getting going South of the river too, a bit dark and mushy to my SSW, everything seems a bit stable here though, and the convection has done the usual thing where it spills out into a big mid level layer, which suggests there is something keeping convection capped here in the SE.

  5. Come to the SE, I've had a fairly warm, and very thundery summer here in E London, and we're facing another localised hot and thundery spell at the end of the week possibly. A thunderstorm a week for six weeks going on seven.

In deep FI the GFS goes for a strong Azores Ridge and the Jet swinging North, not really warm but settled at least, and we all know what can happen when the azores ridge forms a cut off cell to our East. This is a long way away and the ECM dosen't look quite so peachy.

  6. Nice vid Harry, I was right under quite a lot of the closer lightning in that vid, I'll try and find the video I took.

Looks like a classic Cold front setup, with the front really dragging its heels across the UK, look out for thudnery rain moving Northwards or NNE'wards across CS and eventually SE England, the fax charts also suggest a shortwave trough thrown in there over the SE which would also likely produce lines of storms rumbling NE wards.

Its cutting it very fine indeed, it would only need a shift eastwards of about 50-100 miles for it all to go very wrong, the cold front may move faster than expected, although its forecast to even stall and become a Westwards moving warm front for a while.

  7. Good afternoon, heavy shower just pushed in here from the West, heavy wind driven rain becoming almost horizontal at times, I'm glad I'm not out in this!

Not feeling very warm today either.

No lightning yet but the windy is getting very squally.

And now the rain is becoming torrential, roads are turning to rivers already, slowly brightening from the west, plenty of other cells around, one passed to my South earlier with a very photogenic updraft tower going up behind it.

It managed one distant flash as it moved away, no thunder heard though, 6th week in a row that we've had an overhead storm.

  8. Really beautiful storm out to my East the past hour, crisp updrafts feeding up into an anvil that was shearing backwards, the updraft itself was obviously well sheared as it was leaning over well, sure sigsn of a well organised storm. With subtle mamattus on its bottom edge, all lit by the setting sun, brilliant, its been a fantastic day for epic structure shots even if there was only one rumble anywhere near here.

If only the mama display earlier had occured during sunset, it would have made probrably the most beautiful sky I have seen for years, if not ever!

  9. Without exception, that is the most STUNNING display of mammatus I have EVER seen!

Yeah its right overhead, whats amazing is how widespread it is, covering one quarter of the sky and spreading. If only the sun was setting now it would be an absolutely fantastic photo opportunity!

bear with me while I upload!!!

You might want to run before it eats you. :yahoo:
