  1. Angry storm rumbling in from the NW, storm with beautiful structure to the SW. Had a few weak storms earlier on, one with some very nice cloud structure and a small IC flash, then it drenched me as I waited for the bus. Extremely deep booming thunder, shotgun booms getting nearer.
  2. Good morning, it all kind of died out as it approached here but there was a lot of flashing off to the South for quite some time and a little bit of rain. Was quite spectacular for a time with lightning flashing away with a crimson moon hanging above, eventually that dissapeared behind the storm tops. This morning its dull but still warm and humid, with a light variable breeze, but the cold front is moving in. Kudos to Roger J Smith, his forecast was pretty accurate when everybody else was saying it was game over. B)
  3. Round one is dieing off now, round two is gtting underway.
  4. The line of storms appears to actually be the cold front itself, whats happened is that the surface low has caused a wave in the cold front, causing the Northern section to stay stuck out West and the Southern section to begin swinging Northwards. Looking at sat the air behind the storms is clear of instability, and looking at a Brittany webcam earlier it seemed the skies were pretty fresh looking, (if you know what I mean), so expect these storms to clear the air somewhat I think, the cool air is making its attack Northwards from France rather than from the West, as has been the case a lot this year.
  5. They've probrably got sick of people whinging when they put a warning out and there isn't a big enough storm to satisfy people.
  6. First bunch of storms will be Kent clippers, the next bunch will be more widespread. Oh dear I just mentioned the SE, shoot me.
  7. And he never even mentioned your name in his post. For christs sake, this thread is about storms, the weakening cold front has no storms, if you are not at risk of getting a storm then why must everything you say be given undivided attention? Why must we be forbidden from talking about the areas where there is actually a risk of storms? Its all just attention craving.
  8. Where did it all go wrong though? It never used to be like this a couple of years back.
  9. Frozen out? Everyone here can post unrestricted (within certain bounds which are equal for everyone), whatever they like about the weather, nobody is being frozen out or silenced, sounds like they want all the attention to me. I spend a lot of time reporting and posting my thoughts here, and I don't get replys (mainly because its a load of tripe ) that often, but you wont hear me moaning about it! There is no favouritism either, people are just reporting what is going on weather wise in the real world, if almighty who controls the weather decides to smile upon the SE again, tough luck, but being in denial and trying to pretend things are different will not change things in your favour. Cirrius is slowly thickening here, I am longing the passage of the cold front.
  10. The moon is yellow and has a halo tonight, a sign of the humidity. I really do not get this caravaning about the SE, I'm sorry but we don't control the bloody weather so if storms effect the SE only thats tough luck, its not our fault and you cant change that by complaining to us. This thread is about storms, if there are no storms in the UK apart from the SE, then why the hell are we expected to give attention to parts of the country where there are no storms? If you want to talk about the weather at your place regardless then there are separate threads for that purpose. I don't get the whole 'us and them' idea either, most of us here like storms, what is there about that that makes some of us different to others? Chatting about the weather is not a competition, there are no sides. Some people are just looking for an argument or attention I think.
  11. Looks like the cooler air will be shoving its way in from the South behind a line of storms rather than in from the West. Perhaps the main cold front will become warm/occluded and start wrapping Westwards round the low centre.
  12. Be careful what you wish for... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct8SmJzw-xQ
  13. Makes me alugh how everyone at the start of the week was like "yaaay heat", and now everyone is desperate for the Cold front to move over. Interestingly the surface low is moving Eastwards at quite a rate and I can see thin cirrius moving in from the South, perhaps the cold front will swing up from the South rather than coming from the West.
  14. East Kent always ends up under a thundery trough with storms moving Northwards, I've seen that countless times the past few years, East Kent is lightning alley. :o Completely sunny here, no sign of the storms to my SE yet. :o
  15. They are already, some kind of shortwave trough or convergance zone. Also note the low centre over France may cause the cold front to begin swinging up from the South.
  16. I wouldn't say that this hot spell was a fluke, the likes of Glacier Point and Chionomaniac (and others!) were prediciting some serious heat weeks ago when everyone else was in despair and there was no sign of anything on the major models, all in all the long range forecasting bunch did a fantastic job. The signs leading to a hot spell were picked up long before it happened, so it was hardly a fluke that popped up out of nowhere.
  17. Depends on where the storm has formed, if it has grown on a plume of hot air along a disturbance such as a trough, then a hot humid day may follow, if it has formed on a cold front, then it is likely that the air will 'clear' after it's passing.
  18. Ahh thankyou very much, I've always wondered why the heck its called anaprop. Clear as a bell here, If anything major was kicking off down Calais way I'd probrably be able to see the top of it from here. And you can hear lightning, if you're armed with a radio and are on the correct wavelength.
  19. I believe it is anaprop, Sat shows skies are virtually clear over the area. OT: Where did the word 'anaprop' come from?
  20. Sat shows the first channel storms arriving near Poole.
  21. Traditional plume event developing down South, with the Channel Islands having some fun. Looks like these storms will run through Hampshire way and probrably will effect the East.
  22. Had some pretty explosive development to my South earlier, but it did not sustain, must have been the Southern end of the convergance. Looks like high pressure will largely keep a lid on things around here for a few days, but as we saw today local conditions can come together to produce storms where they are not expected, such as over West London today.
  23. T'is like a revese Cheshire gap scenario. A bit dark to my SW, but I really cannot see for dust.
  24. Serious convection visible through the haze to my W and SW. T'is odd that there is a storm the other end of town yet I can't see it, I hate haze.
  25. Its all just mid level dross I think, what has happened is that a load of convection happened this morning, hit some kind of cap and spread out into dark mid level cloud, a lot of which has mamattus underneath, I've seen this happen before a lot of times, it looks very stormy but it isn't.
