Well, just got back from my escapade through Warwickshire & Worcester, and utter crud it was!......occasional heavy rain, cells dying a death, and well, that's just about it....I sincerely hope the weather gods are going to refund me the £30 in diesel costs...all the energy in the western half of England has died and yet again it's sarf-east that prospers, and a huge hole appeared over the midlands where there should be thunder, lightning and general armaggeddon!....not a happy bunny!
Had a brief very heavy hailstorm about an hour ago. I was driving home from work and the pea sized hail was really clattering the windscreen. Quite exciting.

I had never seen Mercury until earlier this week. Should be a good chance of observing it tomorrow in a clearer sky.
-
Amazing shots guys.
Anyone seen Mercury ? I saw it for the first time tonight. It's faint in comparison to Jupiter and Venus and quite low on the horizon, but easily visible just after sunset.

I can smell those Chilli's Buffalo Wings with Ranch Dressing.................Oh wait it's not the Buffalo Wings I can smell.................Arron no Farting this year Please!
Quentin I have a feeling Tour 5 will be just fine, it's not as If we will be anywhere near Nebraska at that time of year
Chilli's is amazing. Miss that place.
Even with a relatively uneventful storm period I enjoyed my time exploring the states and visiting the different places in the towns. Good times.

Minus 12c at 6pm in holbeach tonight already btw!
Seriously frigid. Hadn't heard of this frost hollow before this spell, but it's definitely making a name for itself now.
-5.0C here. Hoping to beat last night's overnight low of -8.7C and push my all time record of -10.2C (recorded in Dec 2010 - I have only been keeping records for 5 or so years) close.
-
The precip definitely has some westward movement as some of the heavier pulses have clipped me. I have a fresh covering around 2cm
-
More moderate snow here now. Dusting developing in to a covering on all surfaces
-
Very odd how this has turned out. Just hours before the event most of us were worried the whole thing was going to be too far west in Wales. Looks like it's ignored the projected track altogether and defied everyone by staying east and heading south.
-
Light snow. Dusting forming
-
Not a great deal happening here. Dry. Temp at -0.5C down from a day time max of 0.2C
Freezing rain here - forming a nice icy layer for the snow to settle on later tonight
I'm jealous. Can't recall ever experiencing freezing rain.
-
It could well be that the precip is so light that it has evaporated before reaches anywhere near the ground. I have seen that happen on a number of occasions.
-
I have just hit -6C. Should surpass the -7.7C recorded last week.
-
The temperature has really started to plummet in the last hour or so. -4.1C. Cloud will be spilling in from the east though, so the minimum temperature will be recorded much earlier in the night.

Me too Supercell. The episode seemed to be more about the effects on people than purely chasing the tornadoes although there were some stunning images of the beasts. I've got it on series record and am looking forward to the next episode - it's a shame that there won't be another series (if rumours are true). Guess I just need to conquer my fear of flying and go on a chase myself!
I hate flying too. Had only ever been to Majorca and Ibiza before heading out to Dallas last Spring. It wasn't too bad. Just kept getting up and helping myself to beer lol.
Tour 1 was not amazingly active last year, but the first day was epic. Funnels forming in the evening sky and eventually going on to form a tornado after dark. Driving down dark roads, seeing power flashes, and watching trees buckle in the distance as the tornado rips its way across the road in front. Some golf ball sized hail bashed on to the car roof briefly which was fun. Got to see some spectacular light shows throughout the tour too.
We drove through 7 different states (4000 miles of travel). Had some great meals out as the food portions are often generous. And everyone gets along just fine as we're all out there for the same reason.
-
A real shame the fog is not of the freezing variety. It complements the snow wonderfully. Objects can become coated in rime ice and look spectacular. Unfortunately temps have been hovering in the vicinity of 1-3.5C and it's been a slow, slushy thaw. Not so picturesque.
Really enjoyed the snow event though. 5 inches is a very good fall and rare for here

Storm Chasers
Series 5, Episode 1: Dixie Alley Outbreak: Series following scientists and filmmakers as they seek out some of the world's most impressive storms. In the worst tornado outbreak in years, Mississippi and Alabama are ravaged by hundreds of twisters. All three teams are on the front lines. SUB
Today at 21:00 on Discovery and Tomorrow at 01:00 on Discovery
I actually quite enjoyed it. The actual storm footage was amazing. The final moments, as the realisation that parts Tuscaloosa were about to be destroyed, I found emotionally powerful.

So what are the snow depths like at either their peak depth or currently?
Seems like a slightly hit and miss event, with snow-rain further west whilst snow still going for some parts of the E.Midlands.
Just over 5 inches here. The heavier second half of the ppn did the job
-
Not looking forward to driving off my estate to go to work at 5.40 am. Only down side to a surprisingly high snow level.
-
Just got really heavy again here. Just hope we can hang on.
Around 5 inches now
-
Largest flakes of the event so far. 0.3C. Some drifting against the fence.
-
[Brownsover mate, it turned ever so slightly sleety a few minutes ago, but it's turned back to moderate snow now. Confusing weather.
Ah, I see. I'm in Hillmorton. Temp has been stuck at 0.2C for some time. Don't want it to go much higher with PPN around.
-
Funny you say that actually, it's turned a little sleety here and we're only down the road!
You must be in the west of Rugby, i'm only about a mile away from the northants border and clinging on to the cold.
-
slowing here now but still all snow and we got 11cm'sin the end, our height has helped I think? 400ft asl?
Snap. Just measured the same level in my back garden.
-
Well, just got in. Very heavy snow, gotta a little lighter but it's still heavy and bigger flakes. Pushing 4 inches out there now, surely.
What's the chance of it turning to rain here, does anyone know? (bit of a noob, you see)
I am a little concerned we may see some sleet / rain for a brief period. The air just a little further east is quite a bit colder, closer to -1C. Here we are at 0.2C. We'll soon find out.

Arghhhh...so close. Nobody told me this was going to happen. Barely minutes away and I would have drove in to the bloody thing too. Gutted
