  1. Good question. I have always done the application online and then write down the number. But then they always make you to fill out a new form on the plane and never ask for the number I got from t'internet.

Not long until tour 1 now!

Oh right. I'll just write it down anyway just in case. I'm not the most organised person in the world so I need to make sure I have everything covered.

  2. They are pretty strict with the weight allowances now on TransAtlantic Flights :pardon:

Updated to Include Claire Hudson, Just Will (Supercell) To go for Tour 1 Now and a splattering of others on the other tours, maybe they are soooo secretive they just dont want us to know about them ?

Sorry. It's been a very busy week. And now i'm being a lazy git. I'll send it across to you later tonight.

  3. Hi

For the ESTA please use the Best Western Forth Worth address above, we always start there, and they have a waffle machine for breakfast. Keep the paperwork with your hand luggage, you still have to fill out the green travel waiver on flights to the USA, and will need the address for that too.

I think most of us are travelling on the same flights, so if you forget, you'll have back up on board.

When booking insurance, remember if you have travel insurance with your bank account, or have an annual multi trip policy, you only need to book the hazardous/extreme sports cover, leave your luggage, flight cover etc on your existing policy, it's quite a bit cheaper.

The 2011 forum will be up in the next 24 hours, ready for the kit lists, inventories, travel plans and all the other good stuff we need to prepare before the first Storm Chase reports start in 60 days!!!!

Thanks for the further info, Ian.

Ohhh the sight of the 2011 forum will make it feel that bit coser. Exciting times !

  4. Thanks for the link Paul.

Does your "normal" travel insurance specifically identify storm chasing as an exclusion?

If not what other wording suggests it's not covered?

    Interested to hear.

It doesn't as such, but I imagine that it would fall under this. And, as a result, not cover me...

    Hazardous Holiday Activities

The policy does not provide any cover if participation in certain hazardous activities and sports. For certain of such activities or sports cover excludes Personal Accident and/or Personal Liability benefits. We may be prepared to offer some cover for certain of these activities or sports if anadditional premium has been paid, so if you require such cover, or are unsure whether the particular activity or sport is considered hazardous by us, you should contact us

  5. http://www.go-walkabout.co.uk/

Theres a link on the right hand side on their homepage. About the only company doing storm chasing insurance now as fas as I'm aware :)

    Brilliant. Thanks mate.

Are there any other bits of paperwork or fees for sevices that we need to cough up before we go ?

My passport is fine. Travel insurance has been sorted. Currently paying for the trip itself. And I need to organise storm chasing insurance. Anything else...

  6. This was a reply from Techmedia to a comment I made on NetWeather, seems they follow us on here too!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Your comments are quite detailed and will be very helpful to our developers as they troubleshoot some of the remaining glitches in the system.

With respect to our new Login system, I'm in charge of both Search and Social Media, and I'm afraid that was my idea. I can tell you that the reason for using Gigya for this had nothing to do with data mining at all. (In fact, I hadn't even considered it until you mentioned it.) Our goal was / is to make the web site "more social" and after some research, it was determined that the best way to do that was to allow people to log in using whatever social media IDs that they already had.

Thanks again for your comments. We hope you will continue to be an avid space.com reader.

Hmmm...not overly optimistic that an agreement will be reached soon then, reflecting on them comments.

  7. wouldn't really have been practical to drive that far and i think we had a moderate risk in TX somewhere, so obviously chasing storms is going to take priority over any other weather. I do recall that it was up to 70F in the dakotas within a day or two, so the snow was very short lived

I can understand. Just had a quick look through the storm chase 2007 archived forum and there is no talk of snow. The focus was on the risk you mentioned above.

  8. Guys

I think the best way too approach this subject is like previous years and having 3 cars kind of helps in the situation what with having the extra row of seats in the SUV's. We obviously do NOT Know what the conditions will be like on any given day 3 months ahead so all this is hyperthetical anyway.

    Scenario 1

If there is an active Chase Day on 31st May 2011 (Eg Last Chase Day for Tour 3) and the risk is from C Kansas Northwards into Nebraska it IS Chaseable for the group on the last day with an Overnight and Morning/Early Afternoon Drive and still get the guests back to DFW in plenty of time. A rough drive time is 216 Miles from DFW-OK City which is 3 hours 30 minutes, and an additional 90 minutes from OK City to the Kansas Border. I also know that 4 hours is plenty from the Southern Kansas Border to the Nebraska Border. (Effectively 9 hours drive time so it could be staged with 4 hours after chasing and 5 hours from 7am until Midday which still gives plenty of time for the afternoon flights. The problem arises with people on Morning flights as they wont have those extra hours for driving back, but In scenarios like this in 2010 with active chase days on Changeover days we have gotten around the problem with designated drivers taking the early departures back and the guys on afternoon flights being accomodated in the other vehicles with less luggage (Eg Extra Row of Seats) I am sure someone is not going to begrudge 9 others a chase day making them sit at the Airport for 9 hours instead.

I may be wrong but a vote would have to be taken whilst out on the chase. Luckily this does not happen often and over the last few years chases even at the end of May have been far enough South. I am going to ask Paul M to put into the booking terms for next year asking people to try and get flights back after a certain time, what do people think of this idea

    Regards

    Paul S

Sounds like the most sensible plan. Although I would say that having booked an evening return flight lol.
