    Seasons

    enjoyed this one, Thanks.
  4. Last night I was tossing and turning trying to sleep at 1:00am then I realised why when I checked the temperature. Outside was 18.6C with an increase inside to 23C. No heating yet on. Thankfully tonight is a nice (relatively) cool 15C!!!! Still too warm for sleeping without the windows wide open. One of the questionable pleasure of living on the South Coast I suppose. Although I do remember many years ago waking up to a very white frost on the 1st October. No chance this year. I would love to know where it was. Not a drop on the coast here. I suspect it was likely north of the South downs.
  5. Well unless it stays up far longer than expected we can all say we are safe in the UK now as that was the last risky pass for us just gone. Spain's chance next pass I think. Ah well, I am not staying up all night so will read up on here tomorrow. Thanks to all who posted those tracking links.
  6. What!!!! The Daily Mail wrong????? Haha, they can't even spell waist and put waste instead in one article. say's it all really. Written by monkeys, read by zombies. Is there any chance of a snowy December again though? I suppose two years in a row is pushing my luck really, especially down on the South Coast.
  7. Sorry you got it wrong! I will be in Horsham on 23rd Sept and I can assure every inhabitant of the town they are perfectly safe while I am there. Reason? Nothing ever happens when I am around, I lead the most uneventful life any human has ever lived. (Let's face it, I am going to Horsham for a day out and I live in Bognor, that says it all. ) However I will leave on the train back to Bognor around 5:00pm so watch out then as I am also notorious for missing all the fun. Edit, Is it likely to show as a fireball over the UK area, or is it too early to tell?
  8. Aren't they likely to book overtime anyway as Arundel is a nice place to stay?
  9. Haha poorly put indeed! As to reply to Adi F, I have certainly seen the debri around and CHIMET can prove your poor anemometer has a major problem. Like me, perhaps it is getting older and slower. I so much hate those old people driving at a snail pace just because the wind is gusty, even if it is very gusty. Just stay home!!!
  10. Drive down here and you will see that those speeds are almost certain to be correct. By the way, I am just half a mile from the seafront so do feel the winds badly.
  11. If it is moving along from here you are likely to get much higher gusts soon, we have had a few gusts up to 57mph this morning and sustained winds of 40mph. I hadn't realised Brighton wasn't getting it so badly as here. I am really surprised that CHIMET is showing higher gusts than ST Catherines point on the I.O.W as that is usually the highest for this area. Southampton too have had a few trees down and at least one at Thornhill blocking a major road. Edit, Winds dropping here now to a more normal F8 gusting Force 9 so I am off out.
  12. Lots of rattling and banging going on outside now and looking out my back window I can see a HUGE branch (1/4 of the tree) of a very large Chestnut Tree down into a neighbours garden. Poor old lady, it will cost her to get that removed, still at least it missed the house.
  13. Wind speeds gradually increasing from the IOW to the Eastern end of the Channel: I can certainly concur with that Coast. Here in Bognor we now have a Gale 8 gusting up to Gale 10. Getting very stormy indeed out there with the heavy rain as well. Certainly the type of weather that can spawn tornadoes down here. I should be going to the Post Office but will delay it until around 3:00pm as it seems a bit scary at the moment with those high gusts.
  14. CHIMET showing gusts up to 50 knot at around 7:35am, 50 knot = 57.53 mph http://www.chimet.co.uk/%28S%28vj1fyzzmqlyi1grqa0qntfr2%29%29/wind.aspx Certainly extremely gusty at the moment (F8 gusting F9) and very heavy rain.
  15. I know exactly how you feel there. It is a love/hate relationship. Love the power of the gusty winds/hate the damage or injuries that may be caused. Then i think, there is nothing I can do to stop it, so I enjoy it while I can.
  16. Just begun to get very gusty indeed here in the last 15 minutes. Wind now risen again to F7 gusting F8 and it is likely to get much worse during the night.
  17. and possible SLW damage Sorry Snow-Joke but what does the above mean?
  18. Hmmm, not really liking the look of this to be honest. Today on the South Coast we had F7 gusting F8 and I now have loads of apples and pears on the ground, Tomorrow this is the Shipping forecast for my area. Wight Gale warnings - Issued: 0936 UTC Mon 05 Sep Southwesterly gale force 8 continuing, increasing severe gale force 9 later Shipping Forecast - Issued: 1625 UTC Mon 05 Sep Wind Southwest 6 to gale 8, occasionally severe gale 9 later. Sea State Rough or very rough. Weather Rain. Visibility Moderate or good, occasionally poor. A severe gale 9 at this time of year is no fun and my poor pear tree is so dripping with (unripe) fruit that I am certainly expecting I could lose some branches off it as it is so laden I have already had to prop up branches with wood. This is likely to have a devastating effect on any orchards in Kent.
  19. Surprisingly I felt one in Felpham near Bognor, in the late 1960's I think it was. We were all sitting round the table having tea when there was a loud bang and a deep rumble under our feet. The next day I was amazed to hear in the radio that it was a small tremor and they said there was a small fault running from Chichester area out to sea and almost under our house at the time. Must have been a very small tremor though. However it was the first time that I realised the UK did experience earthquake tremors.
  20. A further small quake swarm at Katla today. 5 small quakes all within 6 minutes of each other with magnitude between 0.0 and 2.7 but only one was deeper than 1.1km. The 0.0 at 1.1km I would definitely tend to dismiss as an ice quake, the one at 9.6km depth is more interesting although not the largest. Something definitely seems to be moving there but how significant it is we will have to wait to see. OOPS sorry I forgot the link to the earthquake map. http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/earthquakes/myrdalsjokull/#view=map
  21. Yes an interesting article. However it appears that when they say "getting close to an eruption" that could mean anything from weeks to years. So as aways it is a case of wait and see. Interesting times in Iceland though. As regards the summer 'ice quakes' these definitely do muddy the waters a little, however I tend to look at the depth of the quakes. In my view even relatively large quakes can be suspect for being just 'ice quakes' if they are very shallow depth. Best look for deeper quakes for indications things are stirring and there have been plenty this summer in the Katla area, strangely not all in the caldera area. Edit:- Just looked at Jon Frimans Iceland volcano blog....... http://www.jonfr.com/volcano/ He reckons that Katla is begining to show signs of inflation, if this continues it would show the quakes have been signs of the volcano begining to fill. Worth keeping an eye on his blog for the next few weeks/months I reckon.
  22. And yet another small quake of only 1.1 but very close to the 3.2. Definitely does look like something stirring. Bound to happen now as I am away with no internet access for 4 days next week! http://en.vedur.is/earthquakes-and-volcanism/earthquakes/myrdalsjokull/#view=map
  23. Hmmmmm, 2 quakes in 3 seconds in Katla volcano in Iceland and one in the nearby Tindfjallajokull volcano. A large 3.2 one in Katla and only 2.9km deep. Interesting, she hasn't gone back to sleep just yet.
