  1. not a word of a lie. ITV Thames Valley has just interviewed a guy called Moses... oh scrap that. it was "Noah" wasnt it? doh!
  2. is there a risk of central london flooding? all that water going through abingdon and reading will end up in london this evening.
  3. rain is starting to get heavier now. ( light rain for about the last three or four hours, non-stop) completely overcast.
  4. i'm seeing that direction here too - thats the french low pressure system rotating from north-east ish to south-west ish... you can see the rotation on this meteox radar http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-...;soort=loop1uur looking at the radar , you can see the red storm systems - which look at if they'll rotate around hitting from the east moving west.
  5. there are also big reservoirs near Reading too, which you can see on google maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...p;z=12&om=1
  6. clouds are now moving from a north-east to south-west direction. looks like we're now in the northerly front of the rotating low pressure system coming in from france radar: http://www.meteox.com
  7. they were warned by the Met Office months ago http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/sto...2132232,00.html it didnt help matters either when flood defense budgets were cut last year http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...03/ndefra03.xml
  8. so if the thames overflows , flooding water pumping stations, then Reading /WIndsor and possibly even london might have water supply's cut off. hmm... i'm not sure who supplies basingstoke , but i'm about a half an hour from reading and there are big reservoirs up there - so i might be supplied by them. worth going to tesco to stock up on drinking water? in laymans terms - what's happened there? has the jet stream pushed those french storms northwards? is that what you are saying?
  9. probably marching to an assembly point to be picked up by helicopter?
  10. cant blame them really - i dont hear any warnings on the radio being issued about stocking up. if the thames overflows , then i presume that'll have knock on effects on the water supply in the thames valley? i'm no radar expert, but is that rain radar really *that* heavy or will it burn itself out before reaching us?
  11. have a look at the latest radar http://www.meteox.com looks like a storm system is coming up from france, across the channel. heavy rain. if that hits , just as the floodwaters from the thames start going downstream... not good.
  12. the meteox radar certainly shows the northerly direction of that rain front from france... http://www.meteox.com/
  13. is anyone here from Reading? would it be worth my while to head up there to snap some photos as the thames rises in level?
  14. thanks for info. keep us posted on the latest developments. whats your local radio station - i might have a listen if its got an internet stream.
  15. jeez , that sounds bad dogs32. hope you manage to find some supplies. on sky news i noticed that an entire power station may go offline this afternoon - Walham. they're battling to keep it going, but the flood levels are still rising. 350,000 without water this afternoon. is there a chance that london may flood as well as the floodwaters go down the thames during the week? i heard an official on sky news saying that ALL of the weirs have been fully opened.
  16. i've just heard on sky news that all the weirs have been fully opened upstream to allow the waters flow to the sea as quickly as possible. ah yes - the "climate change" get-out-of-jail-free card. very handy that. trouble is - the met office warned the government about flooding months ago http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/sto...2132232,00.html
  17. Berkshire flash flooding http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6907316.stm i've also heard that Basingstoke is badly affected - roundabouts flooded, making travel around doughnut city very difficult.
  18. quite incredible - it certainly does look as if the entire system is rotating.. http://www.meteox.com/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-...;soort=loop1uur
  19. currently in petersfield (south of b'stoke/alton in hampshire) at the moment. torrential rainfall and just heard the first rumbles of thunder. rainfall has been non-stop all morning.
  20. wooah - just had a huge Thor like sky crushing rumble right now...maybe its not going to skirt around basingtoke after all. rain is quite light though. just a shower and not the torrential downpour. update: big flash. counted "1...2" and then the rumble. getting closer i guess. anyone got a radar image or a url to look at the radar?
  21. yeah - it seems to be skirting to the east of basingstoke. just geting light rain here, with flashes to the north east and south east. we're not getting the full force of it. anyone got a recent radar image?
  22. flashes getting more frequent. just saw a lovely lightning strike - but cloud to cloud , rather than cloud to ground. doing the "1.2.3.4..." counting between flash and sound , i got up to about 10. not sure how that translates into miles away.
  23. just saw an enormous flash to east of me that lit up about a quarter of the sky. woooah.. reallly evil thunderstorm developing. seems to be south east of basingstoke , roughly 20 miles away. rumbling is stil going on as i write.
