  1. Feel like a number of the models failed today in that the bank of rain that has plagued the SE should have been a bit further north.

That said, my recent observations are that the cloud and rain is becoming a little less stratiform and a bit more cumuliform and it is (having been on an air conditioned train earlier) deceptively warm and muggy out. Hopefully as the low swings NW and the winds shift, generating some convergence, we might see something a bit more convective over the coming hours across the SE - although admittedly my attention will imminently be switching to the severe outbreak expected across the US today 😬

  2. UKV has been somewhat consistently indicating an area of heavy, possibly torrential downpours spreading NW across the SE and then up across C/S England during the day tomorrow. More recently suggesting some downpours developing and moving W across EA this evening. MetO seem somewhat disinterested in a warning, which surprises me a little.

On my way back from class this evening I noticed some convective signs in the skies, so could be an interesting 18-24 hours across my neck of the woods I reckon.

Hope it’s nothing too bad @BB1979

east sussex seems to be getting quite strong wind gusts already aswell as the super saturated ground allowing the trees to just fall. the roar of the wind only reminds me of eunice.

Exactly the same here @Thunders - the roar outside as the wind rips through the branches has sometimes sounded like a jet plane taking off!

  4. My family arrived back into Heathrow from Ireland about an hour ago…was relieved they got down on the first attempt.

Some very strong gusts here in Bexley. During an impressive gust earlier, a huge chunk of render fell off our neighbour’s house, leaving our shared alleyway strewn with debris.

The only other time I’ve heard our garden doors creak so much was during Storm Eunice, so I’m going with the MetO Amber warning being totally justified on this occasion.

Typical though we've had all Summer without hardly any imports from the channel but they happen right at the end of Summer

Best storms in my experience happen around the changing seasons - spring into summer or summer into autumn - the clashing of cooler/drier air against the hot and humid air 👍 bit like you see in the US - the strongest storms typically taking place around spring and again in autumn
