A more zonal pattern for next week could hopefully lead up to a more classic plume scenario at some point. We haven't seen one for so long, but they used to be so common in July.

By this, I mean the sort of synoptics with a LP to the west of Ireland with an advancing cold front, rather than the cut-off low style plume we've only seen this year so far.

Thankfully it’s still only June 🥳

Well there is some potential today in Lincoln for something big this afternoon. Need this band of rain to move through and that strong June sunshine to work some magic.

Question? How come Storms like the ones we are seeing this morning associated with a large area of rain always seem to contain more powerful lightning strikes and louder thunder? Apologies if that’s a silly question but genuinely curious.

Have long thought the same thing. My punt is it is because you have a build up of charge spread over a broader area rather than in a smaller area. So when it collects and builds to the point it discharges, the whole lot goes (bit like a larger powder keg). So, you get fewer flashes, but more powerful ones spread over a great distance. Certainly what’s it’s seemed like here this morning.

Sferics now over on the N coast of France, you can thank me 😉

    That’ll be the 1 or 2 cloud farts then - thanks @ChannelThunder 😉😂

Got my fingers crossed tonight for some action. Feels warm outside and as if the humidity is on the rise a little (although no obvious scientific signs of this lol).

And for once, I’ll be to the east of the incoming rain…just hope not too far

  4. I got some thunder and lightning last night and a short spell of convective rain, which was enjoyable. Then had to go to bed around 2:30 just because I was tired, so missed some further outbreaks which is a bit annoying.

The sun is currently out here in N Kent and it is stiflingly warm.

I don’t feel I can call what might pan out. As @staplehurst says the storms over N France could dampen down the risk for some areas, or increase the risk for others (for elevated action).

Definitely the most humid feeling day of the year. If the sun can stay out too that will only help boost chances.

    Good luck all
