    At the Kent coast today. The day has been a bit reminiscent of chasing in the plains. Thick low cloud and dampness this morning, now sunnier skies but a screaming wind. I don’t have any firm views about how it’ll pan out but looking forward to radar watching tonight

    UKV has had a bit of a turn and is now totally uninterested for most southern areas tomorrow night.

    Pretty much an accurate description there @Allseasons-si had plenty of rumbles and a few flashes (in fact still having!). Mostly IC lightning. Update - sounds as if the activity might be increasing again. Had a couple of rumbles in quick succession. Update again - make that five in quick succession

    This is currently spitting out some lightning over W/C London - not heard or seen anything however as it’s still a little too far away. Teeny bit of shear evident as the Cb itself moves ESE and low level clouds move NE, but clearly not sufficient to organise the storm more generally it seems

    Just had a right deluge, with some light/grey hues on the radar. Sadly no thunder from it.

    Recently had some lightning very nearby but gutted not to have seen it/heard any thunder. Sky did get very dark and it absolutely chucked it down! Impressive on radar. Some weak mammatus on the back side as it drifts NE too.

    Off to bed with occasional lightning flashes lighting up the room. Very grateful in the end as I was so close to that evil gap between the eastern and western systems. Pleased it ended up covering such a wide area - look forward to seeing all the videos! And it’s only May Night y’all

    Still going on here - when you think it’s passing another wave of heavy rain moves with more lightning. Need to go bed soon though sadly

    Driving rain here now with really quite strong winds - still fair bit of thunder and lightning

    Just had an awesome CG - either that or it was overhead IC crawling away from me - awesome!!

    Just had a huge multiple return stroke IC flash - few seconds of scattered crackling followed by a more distant BOOM!

    So what are we calling this event for the next few years - the 18th May 2022 event?

    Yes just had one screaming overhead here. Had quite a few flashes coming up from the S/SW though no thunder heard

    Gutted - so much cloud has come over I haven’t seen a single flash yet dreading the gap!!

    Dear friends of mine who live in Southampton just sent me a video - lightning is far more frequent than the detectors suggest

    That super active line is going to miss me to my south so I’m hoping those infill storms can get going and the super active line doesn’t hog all the juice

    Detectors that have picked up the strike. You can turn them off.

    Doubt that very much - my reading is they’re on track for just east of IoW

    First tentative (and hopeful) sign of some weak instability moving in towards London. Got fingers and toes crossed! We didn’t have a proper evening/night storm here last year.

    From a nowcasting perspective, I haven’t seen any notable signs of instability in London but there are some signs further east into Kent…serious sense of foreboding flooding in Wont be able to message again until 20:00 (ish) by when I’m sure it’ll all be becoming clear
