  1. June and July were almost like carbon copies here. The first half of each month was unsettled (although the first weekend of June was good), but the unsettled weather was worse in July, yet the fine weather in the second half was also better in July. June overall was just a bit non descript but after the 14th wasn't that bad really in my locale. I was abroad for the second half July but the weather was often fine and warm and briefly hot but not always sunny.

August's unsettled start was of a more summery nature i.e. slack thundery weather rather than the autumnal Atlantic garbage in June and July. This persisted until the 09th, then the month improved and was mostly warm or briefly hot and better where sunshine is concerned. The Atlantic didn't properly move in until the very end of the month.

So, I'd say there have been far worse summers but it was certainly not a good one. The second half definitely the half that resembled the time of year.

It's going to take perfect synoptics now to deliver. Anything else will be falling snow or cold rain.

To a degree yes, but the only snow I've seen this year came from far from ideal synoptics - very marginal uppers, no embedded cold and southerly airstream in early March!

  3. If we're talking April-style unsettled, then I'd go for the warmer option without hesitation. I hate cold outside of winter. If we mean, grey windy southwesterlies however, then I'd go for the cold and sunny option.

At least in a typical unsettled April spell, there is also often sunshine and convective showers with vibrant skyscapes. That with decent temperatures is excellent and good for plant growth.

Getting sunshine all day and a temp below 10 degrees in April is a rare feat in this part of the world and always has been, so I'm not even sure I could choose that option out of pure realism. 😅

  4.  Summer8906 Episodic is the word. Like I said, weekends were disappointing but Tues-Fri was typically nice. I enjoyed a nice sunny day in Dartmouth on Monday 07th, Salcombe on Tues/Weds 15th/16th and Ilfracombe on Tuesday 22nd.

Conversely, the Bank Holiday weekends was pants (after a thundery start) and the final week was autumnal.
