  1. http://www.wfsb.com/...rene-storm-path Hi all, don't know if you've had this link. It's a good interactive map with up to date info on the hurricane, predictions and air recon' details too. BL.
  2. Not exactly foraged, but I was very pleased to find boxes of both plums and apples on the verge sides in my village, with 'free, help yourself' .. made for two super puds this week. On the allotments folks are leaving out free produce in abundance too. I shall soon look for brambles down by the canal. BL.
  3. Just turned a little hazy the sunshine now. I have reached a temp. of 32ºC verified elsewhere too. *melts BL
  4. Chile Volcano Pics Yes, some truly awesome pics of this volcano coming in. Lightening within the cloud .. A 'mushroom' cloud effect and all the dreadful dust fallout. BL
  5. Awesome beauty. Very, very envious of a visit to Yellowstone. Super capture, well done. BL.
  6. Hi all, Two short thunderstorms with a little, much needed rain here this afternoon. It was special to be out in the very warm, full sun and see the blackest of rolling clouds almost all around me. Then the wind picked up and the temp. dropped noticeably when the storm came directly over. (Apologies for no figures/readings in all that !) BL
  7. Hi all, I heard my first cuckoo of the season last night at 1am. I was unaware that they ever called at night. You learn summat new .... BL
  8. Hooray, I can hear the Swifty boys here this evening, having a nice screech round the village. They get less old roof tile opportunities to nest each year, it's a worry. I've also seen a few Martins and there were Swallows swooping round the Beverley racecourse last w/e. Nice innings of flies there ! B.
  9. I must be wrong minded, but that made me cry for the first time during this ongoing disaster. I always feel for the poor animals. B.
  10. Sand Storm That's a horrible accident, poor souls. I see from this article linked above, they talk of sand from the Sahara. This is expected to come down in Britain Sunday on too. I've seen this a few times. BL.
  11. This light is what I referred to in a post (above) but couldn't find a link with pictures. Seems very likely to be an electrical station blow-up as as soon as it occurs the city lights fail in the foreground. (Aliens indeed!) The aftershocks info is interesting too, thanks. I think the majority are away from Tokyo not towards it, thankfully. BL BL
  12. wow, so warm today here in E. Yorks. 23ºC in the shade .. not a cloud in the sky. Beautiful. BL
  13. On the BBC satellite news channel you can see some huge explosion on the horizon, a white light . Presumably a power station as then most of the lights across the city go out. BL
  14. Good job the main aftershocks are away from Tokyo rather than nearer each time ? BL (Hi CR, yes, guess we are getting the same incoming info) The picture shows quite a shake !
  15. Oh help. Yes, just seeing this on the TV news. 90 miles from Fukushima, but no extra effects on that. Seems a deep one though at c. 25 miles so i hope that helps to limit damage .. Latest talk is of a 6' tsunami warning.
  16. And even better news, they have reunited the pooch with her owner, awww. My link BL
  17. Online Mail Indeed, according to this article "100 years" to make the fuel rods safe. More pics here too of the massive damage to the reactors and of the world's biggest concrete pump being sent over from the US to help seal the leakage. BL
  18. I also feel very very sad for the poor animals left behind in the evacuated zone. Horrible. BL
  19. Still very high, but not as bad as reported earlier .. The operators of a stricken Japanese nuclear plant have apologised for a "mistake" in reporting a radiation spike 10 million times above normal. Tokyo Electric Power Company, which has previously been criticised by officials for its handling of the crisis at the plant, said it got the readings wrong. Despite the mistake, the radiation spike at reactor 2 was still very high and enough to evacuate workers. The Fukushima Daiichi plant was damaged in the 11 March quake and tsunami. The death toll has now passed 10,000, and more than 17,000 people are missing. 'Extremely high' The Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) apology related to water readings at reactor 2 at the plant, 240km (150 miles) north of Tokyo. It had said radiation levels reached 10 million times higher than normal in the cooling system but because the level was so high the worker taking the reading had to evacuate before confirming it with a second reading. A spokesman for Japan's nuclear watchdog, Hidehiko Nishiyama, said the level of radiation in puddles near reactor two was confirmed at 1,000 millisieverts an hour. "It is an extremely high figure," Mr Nishiyama said. A cancer risk is evident with an exposure of 100 millisieverts a year. Wow, yes, that's amazing to see. Very scary. (the dog certainly seems disturbed !) BL
  20. Hopefully in this case it is just that .. pollen. I recall one eye witness to the earthquake there saying the air briefly turned yellow from the mass pollen shaken up. I do think they have 'yellow rain' to some extent every year. Eek, sounds scary though when you read about Chernobyl. BL.
  21. I see there is an Horizon Special programme on this tonight. 'Japan Earthquake' with Dr Iain Stewart. BBC2 8pm - 9pm Meanwhile the news today seems worse. "Radioactivity in water at reactor 2 at the quake-damaged Fukushima nuclear plant has reached 10 million times the usual level, company officials say. Workers trying to cool the reactor core to avoid a meltdown have been evacuated. Earlier, Japan's nuclear agency said that levels of radioactive iodine in the sea near the plant had risen to 1,850 times the usual level. The UN's nuclear agency has warned the crisis could go on for months. It is believed the radiation at Fukushima is coming from one of the reactors, but a specific leak has not been identified. Leaking water at reactor 2 has been measured at 1,000 millisieverts/hour - 10 million times higher than when the plant is operating normally." However, the Japanese Govt say, "Airborne radiation around the plant is decreasing" This is from the BBC online news pages. BBC Link BL.
  22. I tried Googling UK quakes the other day and found this from Wikipedia .. My link The 2008 Lincolnshire one of 5.2 gave me a decent shake here, but no damage. Quite an experience. BL
  23. Yes, jealous of this ! Good luck in seeing the wonderful lights. BL
