  1. Now .. Sunny. Temp. 10 º C Pressure 1008 mb (rising) Still gusty at around 30 mph (A wild night with gusts up to 57 mph recorded at nearby Leconfield and a poor soul near me rescued from a fallen tree squashed car and now in hospital. Lots of earthquake loosened chimney pots going over too I read) BL.
  2. Aye, I thought someone would say this, especially re. disease spread. I have left all the spawn for years, but we do seem to get too many to adult size and we've become more and more built up around my garden unfortunately. It's not nice to see the bigger frogs go off in search of other ponds only to meet with disaster. I've relocated spawn to new, but established wildlife ponds elsewhere in the village, trying to do the best all round. I do take your point from the article though. Cheers, BL.
  3. Wow, yes, that's quite summat ! Thanks for showing that. BL
  4. Yikes, as much difference as that is it. Certainly puts our wee shake into perspective and reveals why there was such devastation there. BL x
  5. I can understand your 'pain' OON. We had always hoped to experience a MILD earthquake .. the nearest we'd gotten before was on an 'earthquake experience machine' at London's geological museum many years ago. I suppose it would have been more exciting if it had come during the daytime, but then more folks might have been hurt .. Doubt I'll ever experience another of such magnitude, being er, well middle aged (?) lol. BL x
  6. Bless our whippet dogs, LoL. Mine also slept thru our garage being burgled a while back :-( Perhaps it's a male thing .. They're reading out lots of e-mails on the TV news saying that most men either slept right thru it or just said to their v. worried wives, 'yeah I think it was an earthquake, now lets get back to sleep' BL x
  7. Yes, I meant to add that to my post .. Aren't dogs supposed to be very sensitive to earthquakes ? My ol' whippet didn't move a muscle through all that shaking and rattling .. or even when we got up excitedly to investigate BL x
  8. Gosh. Well that gave me a decent rattle n roll last night ! Latest I'm hearing is, it was a 5.2 quake. Sounded like distant thunder to me, but the most noise was from the windows rattling. Shook the bed quite strongly for several seconds and then tailed off for several more. Fortunately no personal damage. (I'm c. 15m north of Hull.) Everyone in my street had their lights on having a look round, but I was surprised no alarms at all went off. I could see a few poor blackbirds scared from their roosts. Have to admit, it was rather exciting ! lol I hope the few across the zone who are hurt soon mend. Interested to read what others said re. aftershocks. None felt so far, and my husband is now on his motorbike off to Hull, so I'm not wishing for any ! Cheers, BL.x
  9. Just in time .. my voting. Non-Weather PB N3 PB N1 RB N2 Slinky N1 TM N1 and Weather SW 2 DW 2 OB 1 HC 1 RB 3 Cheers all, BL x
  10. Lovely scenery and great photo's. Many thanks for them. BL. x
  11. LoL. Aye, as I mentioned earlier, so randy they even mistake goldfish for their true mates on occasion, eek. We have to take most of the spawn to other locations each year so as not to be over-run with froglets. BL x
  12. Yes, I saw one in my wild pond today. I thought he was quick off the mark after several days of thick ice. Pleased to say all my goldfish have come up to the surface ok today in their pond too. BL. x
  13. Hi all, enjoying all the Feb entries so far. Here's 3 from me. Very chilly water birds .. Taken yesterday after a bitter night of freezing fog. I'm not sure if they qualify for 'weather' entries or general 'non-weather' lol Cheers, BL x
  14. Aye, my husband texted from Hull city to say it was 'snowing' around 9am. I too wondered whether it could amidst a frost / fog, so thought I'd check in here Ooo and 20mins later .. it has just started here too, c. 15 m north of Hull. Little 'fairy' flakes of 'snow'. Cheers, BL.
  15. Lovely full sunshine now and still. Down to -6.5º C overnight. Pressure 1041 mb (falling) BL
  16. Lovely and sunny now, not a cloud in the sky. A chilly - 4.5º C overnight. Wind just 6mph Pressure 1044 hPa (rising) BL
  17. Yes, we've had to change to having a wildlife only pond and a separate raised fish pond. I suspected the incoming amphibians were introducing disease. I've also witnessed randy frogs grabbing the goldfish which has sadly led to some losses. B. x
  18. Yes indeed Reef, I noticed a wide range of local temps on the Yorks/Humber MetO site too. BL
  19. Glad to find this thread as I was wondering how unusual it was to see such variations. Yesterday here I recorded .. -2.5º C to exactly +15º C (in the shade of course) BL
  20. I hadn't thought there were any stirring in my own garden as yet, but I've just found one in my greenhouse sitting in a water-logged flowerpot, lol. Now I'm wondering what to do with him as the wildlife pond is iced over. Eeek. Guess I'll wait for it to thaw and pop him out. BL
  21. Temp. 4.5º C here now after being -2 overnight. The sun is just winning through the fog now. Pressure. 1034 hPa BL.
  22. I came in to catch the local news, 'Look North' to hear Peter Levy mentioning an unusual bird blown into the region .. but it was a Glossy Ibis, lol. To be seen on the coast in Lincs and very lovely it is too ! Awww. BL.
  23. Yes 'Hiya', maybe that's it . Yellowhammers are infrequent visitors to my garden here. Cheers, BL x
  24. Thanks for replying 'Just Before Dawn'. I've looked out for them returning, but no luck so far. It seems everso unlikely they were Cirl's by the sounds of it .. by location and habit .. but I must say they did have darker heads than any yellowhammer I've ever seen. Their body plummage was a tad different too. I hadn't heard of the two buntings you referred to, but I've had a look-see and no, it wasn't them. Hope I get another chance to scrutinize my pretty little visitors. Cheers, BL x
