  1. Cloudy this morning, close and thundery looking this afternoon, then suddenly after a bit of breezyness, near clear skies. Mostly cloudy at the moment, quite shallow low looking cloud, dry. I'll let you know if it rains. ~0.2mm yesterday afternoon.
  2. None at all, I meant to say that in my post, but went and had dinner instead.
  3. Max efficiency for a wind turbine (the rotor) is 59.3%, known as Betz's theorem. This assumes no losses, such as friction, electrical and magnetic. Small domestic turbines are something like 25% ish - dunno about the big one's, similar I imagine?
  4. Horrid. It's the kite festival here today - well at least they've got the wind for it. Last year it was sunny and breezeless.
  5. Grey water systems on more houses. In a hard water area it makes sense to do washing in soft rain water.
  6. I'm probably all for sticking these things out in the sea really. I've already noticed the interesting, novel appeal of wind turbines on hills wane. I find them quite distracting and a bit annoying now. There's something a bit perverted though about sticking wind energy machines in the sea, what with those waves and currents and stuff. I wonder if they should be built taller, rather than bigger. After all the bottom part of the rotor on these large machines is not really so far from the ground,(well not relative to the top anyway) with poorer and slower air and since it's the bits closer to the edge that are doing a disproportionate amount of energy gathering (because they move through more air than parts nearer the centre and presumably more torque)... Couldn't they be built much taller? Then maybe we wouldn't notice them so much.
  7. 17mm yesterday, but nothing today. Quite nice and sunny this afternoon, a bit cool this evening.
  8. Same here, blue sky all of a sudden and just a bit of cloud. First sunshine of the day, still a bit breezy.
  9. Pretty grey and breezy relatively today. A trace of rain from vague showers overnight, ~0.2mm. 50.02mm in the last couple of days or so.
  10. Most electricaly active storm I've ever seen this morning around 5am. Roughly every 5 seconds for quite a good while.
  11. Showery/thundery. 50mm since yesterday morning.
  12. It's truely scary how nobody's falling for this cold guff anymore. Not in our life anyway. Bit worried about my exotics going out with these clear nights though. Uh oh!!! Bit worried about insolence during the day too - wonder if I even want to eat my lettuce sometimes.?!
  13. A sunny day, cumulus floating about earlier, this evening some cirrus, spread out contrails and a breeze has picked up. Shows promise really if your not a land mollusc. Getting more and more could free, contrails are much narrower, 18C, 70%hum, wind bearly there at all.
  14. Drizzly morning, cleared up mainly this afternoon, mostly cloudy. Currently 20C, 80% humidity and just a trace of rain. Not very good really.
  15. But then they would need batteries to store the charge, which is even less green than wasting all this Sodium light.
  16. It got quite windy here this afternoon, but has eased off now to a light breeze. Warm, alternated between mostly cloudy and mostly sunny. Fairly clear at the moment, 16C and 80% humidity.
  17. That's a shame. Was it the flower knocked off at the base or the whole plant? A great shame if the whole plant. I heard or read somewhere an idea that the way banana leaves shred, protects them from wind. They look a bit tatty then though.
  18. I've just had to tip a bucket of rain water down the drain, I need it to change the aquarium water. The 45gal water butt is full and the garden is leached out. Pity I can't sell it really. That rain progged for Monday overnight Tuesday, is now reducing on the 12z gfs precip chart and shifting away from the south, more towards the middle and north. Then it intensifies in the North sea, after it's shot over us.
  19. That's true, I suppose it's kind of welcoming aswell, as one approaches civilisation after a long, soperific drive through night-time countrycide.
  20. Aye to that bit I meant. I don't agree with having unlit streets in town. But I can't really see the reason for lighting sections of motorways, when the vast majority of it is unlit.
  21. (Just gone and got a new keyboard - I was struggling with last one!) Some brief showers last night, today windy, sunny spells. 2mm.
  22. That looks fantatastic. Very odd cloud here too, but incredibly no camera. It looks something like printing bubble wrap with poster paint onto paper More rediculous weather to come!
  23. A concoction of garlic Potty Prof, apparently. Somewhere around here is 'the little book of garlic', a great book for garlic fans in a hurry. Last year my runners got covered in black fly at the end of the growing season, complete with ants milking them for their juicy substance. This year, mass infestation of black fly started a couple of weeks ago. I blame the climate. (No cat anymore either).
