  1. Well the cold has arrived and experience teaches me that snow can pop up from anywhere, I seem to remember that in the first week of Feb 09 snow events were developing at various places almost at a moments notice. I remember at the end of that week no new snow was expected in the morning and then suddenly parts of northern hampshire had about 5cms by the evening. As for today its nice to see the sun!!
  2. I sense that here in North Hampshire we may only see some sleety mess later on today but looks better for Monday - it's true though once cold snowy weather starts it seems snowfall can spring out from nowhere so I dont think anyone should be sure at this stage they WONT get any - except perhaps Cornwall. Wait 24 hours and anything could happen
  3. The BBC South forecast this evening was just mentioning cooler at the weekend but still 8/9 degs and rain sat morning. I suppose they are wary of the uncertainty but the models are now saying otherwise quite strongly, maybe this will change later on. Maybe I should see if Ian F is on duty on BBC West at 10.30!!!!
  4. We were talking in the office today and saying that every forecast on the BBC seems to contain the word 'uncertainty' these days.
  5. Building up to a good covering now in Micheldever Station, cant understand the BBC News forecast, it showed no snow for the coast and most that does fall is north and west of here still and most places no more than a centimetre or two.
  6. Light dusting over everything here, bit of a surprise as it was dry half an hour ago
  7. At this stage there is no point trying to pin down exact areas, although it adds to the fun. The snow on Jan 6 2010 was supposed to be centred over Wiltshire and was confidently predicted right up to the time it started. In the end East Hampshire and West Surrey and Sussex got the the bulk of it.
  8. So does anyone know in Hampshire where rain becomes snow? Winchester across to Romsey maybe? I am 5 miles north of Winchester and its still snow, about 3 cm.
  9. Just got back after a 2 hour power cut, still very much snow here, seems quite heavy at present probably a good 2cm now accumulated
  10. A light covering here so far, heavy little flakes if you know what I mean
  11. My amateur north facing temperature gauge topped at -1 an hour ago, its now dropping.
  12. I think all we can do is wait and see now. My location did quite well out of snow in the last couple of years, about 450 feet up (sorry old skool!!) and in the middle of North Hampshire so it will be knife edge stuff.
  13. I could see the squall line approaching from the north west and the weirdest thing was you could visibly see it getting darker by the second - thought my eyes were playing up. Lovely blue sky moving in here now
  14. Squall line just passed through here and was pretty entertaining, very dark, power flickered on and off and then 10 minutes of horizontal rain. Certainly glad I wasnt driving on the exposed parts of the M3
  15. I'm a rare poster but a regular reader and it seems there are tentative signs of an improvement next weekend, hate to put a dampener on it though but often we have a short lived hot spell in a poor summer during the last week in July and a short lived cool spell in a good summer. Hope it marks a glorious August this year though.
  16. The rain amount seems to be a bit misleading looking at the radar, we should be hving pretty moderate rain but it's barely been more than spits and not really wet the ground.
  17. I was wrong the storm has suddenly expanded our way with monsoonal rains, thunder and lightning.
  18. I can hear frequent thunder but I think the rain is missing us and in fact the sun has just come out again
  19. Something strange happened here this morning, it rained for an hour, first for many weeks. I need the storm over Newbury to move a bit further south than east but I fear it will pass just to the north of me, just heard thunder though, must be the first for about 2 years!!!
  20. Not a bad day here at all, a dribble of rain first thing this morning then sunny spells, still 21c now and feeling quite humid, the brown grass carries on for now. Seems hard to imagine how bad it has been in Scotland and NI so far this summer
  21. I am new to model watching and bow to other peoples experience on here but I really hope that signs of milder weather follow through now, here its been mainly cold snowless and damp for a month and it's time for spring to show it's hand in the outlook. Sorry this won't be in line with most people on here.
  22. Not sure what to believe with that graphic, it should be raining over Hampshire at the moment and maybe snow later clearing about 5am, at least North Hampshire has seen solid snow for hours now and if it stays like that its going to be pretty damn deep by the morning
  23. I'm surprised there's not more people on this thread, we've had snow for about 4 hours now, its very wet but over 2 inches now, if it freezes later tonight it will be horrendous tomorrow morning - very festive though
