  1. Have witnessed it only once, Feb 2006. We had 3 flashes of fork lightning during a week long snow event where we ended up with 17" of snow. Surprisingly the lightning was yellow, have never seen yellow lightning before!

I also believe Peterhead had thundersnow just the other day!

  2. Well Everyone,

I have spent a lot of time on here today and i think the past 17days to be honest in anticipation of snow events. I must say that i have not been let down at all these past weeks and hopefully that POLAR LOW will provide us with a nice first day of 2010.

Since its the first year with our little boy, i'm being summoned to get some alcohol out of the cupboard and spend the next few hours with Mrs Yeahbabyyeah and the wee one, watching Pirates of the Carribean, Stll Game and Only An Excuse then i guess the delightful Jackie Bird.

I would, however, like to thank everyone on this thread for all the information they have discussed and shared, its been very much appreciated for novices like myself.

I hope you all have a fantastic evening, however, you may be spending it! If i'm allowed, i will have a quick glance later to see if anyone has any up-to-date good news for us. If not i will wish you all a Happy New Year and Good Luck for 2010, if your out and about, be careful!

  3. Tell me about it! More of a northerly is EXACTLY what we need.

Not only does it give us more showers, but less of a sea influence and therfore no thaw risk

Whats the chances of it materialising do you think? I would expect something to happen as the colder air pushes south but i guess i'm not sure how far the comma cloud will track south!

  4. Its off the Norwiegn coast just now, you can see it spinning and leaving the coast on this http://www.sat24.com...ge.aspx?page=ir

Then if you look at this for tonight 00, it must be the same feature about to head down the east coast. http://www.meteociel...h=24&carte=2000

    CMIIW please.

Ah ha, i see, was just checking because the fax link that Norrace posted a few pages back shows more LP off northern norway on monday?

  5. So what is the main problems being faced these next few days...i have read most of the posts but cant quite pin down whats truley being said. The MetO have released a weather warning for Heavy snow etc but the temp feels way wrong for that. What is the general trend for today, tomorrow etc?

    Wind direction?

    Wind Source?

    Temp Prediction (upper/Lower)?

Areas worst affected by potential snow?

And lastly time span of likely snow event?

Sorry for all the questions but i'm super curious!

  6. I've been here for 21 years, NL; and, this is the longest run of snowdays I can remember. And, judging from the latest MetO update, we have more snow to come. Sometimes, a brief respite can be very welcome?? :drinks:

Couldnt agree more...its nice to feel your fingers again and to venture outside without always putting the hat and scarf on!!
