Has anyone else spied another possible PL heading down the east coast from Norway at T+84 (i.e. monday/monday night).
-
Well Everyone,
I have spent a lot of time on here today and i think the past 17days to be honest in anticipation of snow events. I must say that i have not been let down at all these past weeks and hopefully that POLAR LOW will provide us with a nice first day of 2010.
Since its the first year with our little boy, i'm being summoned to get some alcohol out of the cupboard and spend the next few hours with Mrs Yeahbabyyeah and the wee one, watching Pirates of the Carribean, Stll Game and Only An Excuse then i guess the delightful Jackie Bird.
I would, however, like to thank everyone on this thread for all the information they have discussed and shared, its been very much appreciated for novices like myself.
I hope you all have a fantastic evening, however, you may be spending it! If i'm allowed, i will have a quick glance later to see if anyone has any up-to-date good news for us. If not i will wish you all a Happy New Year and Good Luck for 2010, if your out and about, be careful!

The odd thing is that a full moon allegedly coincides with an active atlantic, something which has actually been missing this month!
which we are all very grateful for LS!
-
Is this a Polar Low to the N.East of Scotland?
http://www.sat24.com/image.ashx?country=gb&type=slide&time=&index=2&sat=ir
Certainly has the image of a PL forming! Thi is exactly what we need...so good convection as it sinks slightly south then sucking in the cold air as it shoots off shower, after shower, after shower!!! (of snow of course)
-
I think you're right - orange cloud moving in from the NNE - snow!
Ahhhh...the famous orange cloud! Its every snow cravers dream! Well the wind charts above have cheered me up, lets just hope those showers on the north coast follow the A9 to aberdeen then down the A90 to Portlethen then stop at the imaginary red light at my house!!!
-
Tell me about it! More of a northerly is EXACTLY what we need.
Not only does it give us more showers, but less of a sea influence and therfore no thaw risk
Whats the chances of it materialising do you think? I would expect something to happen as the colder air pushes south but i guess i'm not sure how far the comma cloud will track south!
-
This is depressing me! Just wish it would snow...we need a bit more of a northerly to drag those showers to aberdeen!
-
Bennachie looks brilliant in the golden sunshine
-
ok, its a crisp clear day here but where has the forecasted snow gone? the wind has gone east basically, i hope we get some snow off of that LP
-
Its off the Norwiegn coast just now, you can see it spinning and leaving the coast on this http://www.sat24.com...ge.aspx?page=ir
Then if you look at this for tonight 00, it must be the same feature about to head down the east coast. http://www.meteociel...h=24&carte=2000
CMIIW please.
Ah ha, i see, was just checking because the fax link that Norrace posted a few pages back shows more LP off northern norway on monday?
-
Not really sure what it is, but it does look like making a move southwards towards northeast Scotland.
Are you guys talking about the feature off the west coast or the feature off the north coast thats come through on the fax?
-
whats the chances of the low pressure off the north coast or norway moving south after monday?
-
looks like inverness is in the firing line...raintoday shows some pretty potent showers
-
been heavy snow here for the past 40 mins. depositis of about 1-2" overnight with more hopefully on the way. Snow piles ploughed up which are the same height as my head from the car park being cleared...thats 6 foot piles
-
Well people, any snow thats melted over the past few days has been renewed. Still feels slightly marginal though this morning, although the snow is falling.
Why is the BBC forecasting 5oC tommorow? Surely not????
-
I would have to agree, it looks like it is growing? How much can we expect it to grow/if any?
-
has been snowing here for the past hour, away to leave early to get home as it will be icy and pretty poor visibility! Lets hope it continues for the next 40 days and nights!
-
Thats the snow finally here, blizzard at the moment with a temp of 0.5oC
-
Thanks LS, well i'd rather read your reports than watch TV for the info!
-
So can someone please clarify why there is such a difference in temp from an ENE/E off of the Sea and a N/NNE off of the sea? Surely the sea temps arent that varied are they?
-
So what is the main problems being faced these next few days...i have read most of the posts but cant quite pin down whats truley being said. The MetO have released a weather warning for Heavy snow etc but the temp feels way wrong for that. What is the general trend for today, tomorrow etc?
Wind direction?
Wind Source?
Temp Prediction (upper/Lower)?
Areas worst affected by potential snow?
And lastly time span of likely snow event?
Sorry for all the questions but i'm super curious!
-
I've been here for 21 years, NL; and, this is the longest run of snowdays I can remember. And, judging from the latest MetO update, we have more snow to come. Sometimes, a brief respite can be very welcome??
Couldnt agree more...its nice to feel your fingers again and to venture outside without always putting the hat and scarf on!!
-
confusing precip here, a mixture of big snow flakes, wet snowflakes and hail!!! Anyone know where i can get an accurate temp reading for portlethen?
-
snow, snow, snow...those in poor peterhead had snow that has now turned to rain and melted the last of the snow...since the wind has picked up its caused a thaw...lets hope the same doesnt happen here.
Am i right in hearing that the Stirling hogmany festival is cancelled due to ice and snow?
Thundersnow Reports

Have witnessed it only once, Feb 2006. We had 3 flashes of fork lightning during a week long snow event where we ended up with 17" of snow. Surprisingly the lightning was yellow, have never seen yellow lightning before!
I also believe Peterhead had thundersnow just the other day!
