  1. Hi Folks As usual there is still lots of uncertainty over the final outcome will it snow or will it rain. London has been downgraded since 6:00am this morning and where I am in France has been upgraded and there is now a chance we could see snow falling on the grape vines by Sunday. However things will keep changing not just with every model run but almost hour by hour for the next few days. Cheers FC
  2. Hi Coastie That is the other side of the weather coin... we all want snow so we can go out and play, but for those who work in the rescue services this is not a fun time at all, good luck to all those who do such great work in such challenging conditions as we have at the moment. Stay safe, when 'playing in the current weather'... Cheers FC
  3. Hi Folks Just took a tour round the web cams of the French mountain regions and for skiers it looks like you could be struggling for visibility, but there is plenty of snow falling everywhere except the Pyrenees, though it is forecast to reach there tomorrow but not sure how much is going to fall, they are desperate for more snow, where as the Alps (at least on the French side) have more than enough snow at the moment and the Massif Central is also fairing pretty well. Its not fair, 3 hours from the slopes and I have to work all weekend.... such is life.... Cheers FC
  4. Hi Folks Absolutely marvelous, I set foot outside the UK and suddenly even London get snow forecast (on the BBC website they are forecasting 'Heavy Snow' for Sunday). I think I am in the only bit of France that is not forecast snow over the next few days, but then that is why we moved here for the warmer weather. Enjoy the snow, and I hope the downgrade gremlins don't get you, Happy snowy Easter everyone. Cheers FC
  5. Hi Folks There was a bit of frost on the windscreen this morning in Southend, so a bit of scraping required before I could drive to the station. There was a light mist around Leigh then the mist thickened as we travelled up to London, and London itself is shrouded in fog which is still thickening. Its a long time since I have seen this in London, although my car said the temparature was +1 degree on the drive to the station, with so much dampness in the air, the day feels like one of those bone chillingly cold late autumn/early spring days we used to get in the good old days :-) Cheers FC
  6. Hi Folks Well I can safely say that apart from the short cold spell in December I have not had to scrape my windscreen (then it was only twice) at all this winter whilst in the UK, however in SW France where I spend the weekends, I am on my 4th can of de-icer this winter, the clear nights being cold but the days warming up really nicely and it looks like this weekend coming is a good case in point, so I will be scraping the ice off the windscreen to go and buy my croissants and then sitting in the garden at lunchtime to eat them... no snow this year though.... Cheers FC
  7. Hi Roger Brilliant..... Absolute blinder as they say in footie parlance, I think you writting skills are getting quite a following, I'd love to hear some post match interviews.... Cheers FC
  8. Hi Folks I've been monitoring the web cams for the mountains in north Norway for signs of the first snow falls, but so far nothing to write home about as they say. Overnight temps have dropped down to around zero or just below, so hopefully if the cold pooling continues 'up north' it won't be long before Scandinavia gets its first fall of the winter. Cheers FC
  9. Hi Folks I love reading this thread, I'm only sorry that I do not know enough to contribute. I had my first look at the Finnish road traffic web cams this morning and looking north from Finland into north Norway I can see a dusting of white stuff on the mountains, but I can't say with any surety if this is fresh or not, but I will keep monitoring the cams over the weekend. Its a pity that this cam has to switch to its real job in winter of showing the road conditions as it give great views northwards in the summer. Edit; now the sun has moved I can see that it was definitely not fresh snow..... lets hope for some early next week. Thanks to one and all for a great informative thread, and keep up the good work Cheers FC
  10. Good Luck and enjoy the big day what ever the weather
  11. Hi Magpie Very true, politicians are bandwagon specialists, however I did not say that politicians came up with the idea of Global dimming, I was merely speculating over an opposing bandwagon (to the current green/GW bandwagon) that is rolling along at great speed, and still gaining passengers... I'll just wait and see what happens... Cheers FC
  12. Hi Folks I have never entered the debate on global warming and I do not intend to start now, but above there is an interesting statement, namely the possibility that cleaning up the atmosphere is now actually accelerating the warming, if this gathered momentum then where would we be Just remember there are lies, then there are damming lies, above them come stastics and then top of the pile come expenses, add in a mix of personal agenda, the odd politician (and some are very odd) take away the number you first thought of, now try and figure out where you are... Cheers FC PS please take this in the spirit it was written ie a bit of fun :-)
  13. Hi Folks It was pretty unspectacular as a cold spell down in S.E Essex and London, a couple of beefy snow showers not much frost, some brilliant sunshine early in the mornings all pointing to a typical March day. Bring on the summer.. Cheers FC
  14. Hi Karl Thanks for your reply, sadly ctl +F5 did not have any effect, I'm running XPPsp2 with Explorer 6.0.2900. Sorry for the delay in replying I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment and the new house does not have any internet connections yet.. I can get by with the fast reply at moment so this is not a mega urgent problem, just a bit annoying, hopefully when I get my broadband installed in the new house I can troubleshoot this problem for my self. Cheers FC
  15. I've not been on the board for a while actively, but now when I click add reply from any forum the reply box opens an extremely wide text box which it is impossible to find the start point for, have I done something stupid, I can't find any settings any where that I may have changed, or has something changed on the boards. The fast reply box appears to be working without a problem. Cheers FC
  16. Morning All Well drove from Southend to SE London this morning, left Southend at 5:15 with the snow just starting to fall, by the time I got to Basildon the snow was quiet heavy with nice large flakes and a temp of -1 according to the car, there were one or two cars already in the hedge, going over the QE2 bridge was fun in the heavy snow, got to Lewisham only 10mins later than normal, there must have been a good inch and a half of lying snow. The train into Central London 20 mins late so all in all not a bad trip. Still snowing at London Bridge, but because the council emptied the contents of a small salt mine over the streets its just a watery mess. If you do not have to work... enjoy.... Cheers FC
  17. Hi All Very cold night for London, car was registering -4 this morning, only the 2nd time this winter it has gone below 0, first time being yesterday, I still do not believe London is going to get much snow tomorrow, though Everton Fox did revive his ramp for the London area, giving us 2cm... lets see what develops, it could be an interesting drive to work tomorrow Cheers FC
  18. Hi All Not strictly on topic, but Everton Fox was, for the second day running, ramping a snow event for Thursday across Southern England, although today he dropped the 'even the London area' part of the ramp. I still think this is going to be marginal regarding snow in the south, having said that for the first time this winter driving from Southend to London the external temp gauge in the car finally registered a minus figure for about 8 miles before going positive again. My guess, with my un-trained eye, from the current charts is sleety rain south of the Thames unless the colder air can push further south, still time for a few more changes though Cheers all FC
  19. Hi All I even heard Mr Everton Fox ramping snow for the London area this morning on Five Live, I did not think snow was in his vocabulary. Lets see what transpires.. Cheers FC
  20. Hi All When I left home in Southend at 5:15 it was dry, by the time I got to Rochford snow was falling giving a dusting then as the train headed for London there was about 1 cm at Rayleigh, and by the time we reached Billericay it was possibly 2 may be 3cm, then I could not see out of the train window any more. It is still snowing slightly here at London Bridge, but its all slush under foot... Cheers FC
  21. Hi All More tremours detected with an epicentre around the sage of SE London, it could have been something to do with just coming in from a night out, ....now where did I put that glass of abingdon..... Cheers FC
  22. Hi All London Bridge station reported closed due to wind damage, staff being sent home early from my office!!! Cheers FC
  23. Hi All More blatent ramping spotted eminating from the Dorset area, I Quote "Anybody east of the M1 could easily see 5-20cm." glass of Abingdon any one.... Cheers FC
  24. Morning All Nice little thunder storm passing over the City of London at the moment, unusual to see thunder and lightening at this time of year.. Cheers FC
  25. Hi All I knew I should have kept my digital mouth shut, I've just seen that the Finnish weather forecasters have changed the out outlook again for the next 4 days with rising temps to +4 degrees in the Artic Circle and they are forecasting rain again. I know you should not take one run as gospel but they have been pretty good at foracasting this period of weather so far.. lets pray they switch it back again after the next run. I wonder what models they use.. Cheers FC
