Not posted here for a while as i hoped to post some good news, but alas there isnt any. Temperatures in Dolomites are above freezing. At 1200m 12 degrees was reached today and at 2450m it got +4.6. Its turning out to be awful!
December was a very wet month with 199% of the average, also 1.6 C warmer than normal. Full summary of the year, graphs and all, at http://www.lortonweather.co.uk/Analysis-2006.htm
Ski Sunday had good cover of the Super G from Val Gardena. The snow looked in very good condition, infact as good as last year when i skiied the course. It is looking like a cool down is coming so the snow canons will be able to add to the base - just hope we dont get a return back to mild.
Snow is holding well in the Dolomites, but temps are now above freeze above 2000m with only the valleys below as. Forecast for the next week is for it to warm more - hope by not too much or we will back to sqaure one again.
Thanks for the links Stratus. Im staying in Corvara so will be skiing most of the time in Alta Badia. Temperatures look much better than they did a few days ago - lets just hope they stay low.
The Dolomites are now actually looking like the post card they should. Currently snowing and good base already laid. All we need now is for it to stay cold. Thankfully 06z GFS doesnt show any night without frost for a while, although daytime temps could do to be a few degrees cooler to make me less anxious.
I hope you're right Carinthian. It's very sad seeing the few skiiers in Val Gardena skiing down a narrow path of slushy white stuff surrounded by brown savanah like grass. It is actually below freezing above 2000m.
Val Gardena/Alta Badia Season opens today - at least it should but has been postponed to the 6th. That date is looking very doubtful as the only frost allowing the canons to work was in the valley.
No frost last night on Seceda. And season will not start tomorrow in Val Gardena or Alta Badia. This is not looking good and the long term forecasts are not giving me any confidence! Dolomiti say: Thanks to the man-made snow 7 uphill facilities with 4 slopes are open at Kronplatz. At 02/12 and 03/12 will also open the cabin lift Piz La Ila and the chair lift Bamby (with slope). According to the weather forecast there will be snowfalls the 6th and 7th of December. Several uphill facilities will open starting from the 06-07th of December 2006.
found out what it is. It is the session cookie, i have the rain radar open in a new window and that refreshes automatically every so often which renews the session id making the one im using for the chart viewer invalid.
could that be right?
Hi paul
Im looking at the 850 temp & SLP on the gfs. Images showed ok up until hour 36 which showed a broken link then when i tried to back track through the earlier hours all images show a broken link. time of run is set 12, although changing it doesnt make any diference.
just closed the browser and gone back in and now it works - seems like a possible caching error maybe
Hi Paul
I'm a premium member now
Very impressive radar and lots of things to spend hours staring at. I', not sure if im doing it right but some of the gfs charts keep showing a broken image link sometimes when i have just looked at one so i kno wits there.
i want to take advantage of the offer that expires today but when i go to my control area and choose subscription no choices appear! how do i upgrade my free account to the £23 offer?
thanks
Frost down to 2300m in the Dolomites last night, which possibly gave a few hours of snow making. Temperature at 1.6 at 2300 and only 100m lower already up to 4.5.
