At Freshwater Bay this afternoon. Not a cloud in the sky, sea like an ironing board and the sun high high enough to sit in and keep warm. If this is 2014 / 15 winter then long may the high pressure rule

But not this year.....

It's a beautiful day here with a crisp and dry northerly.... The sun is now gaining strength to a point where behind glass it's heating the house up nicely

Surely the clock is ticking now. The sun is now producing a tangible warmth (well we are the sunniest place in the UK) Do the models take this into account? It would appear that any snow is becoming increasingly unlikely in the far South based on the most recent outputs
-
Very windy & wet conditions 15 minutes ago with a SW up to F8 - it's now swing ing to the west and the kies are clearing very quickly - looks like the first
cold front is about to arrive...............
-
Just watched (twice) the South Today extended forecast and it bears very little relationship to what is being discussed here. Only Daily Excess stylee doomwatch aspect.... "very cold on Saturday"

It's gusting f9 on the Lee shore at Chichester but nothing out of the ordinary so far. Even the rain isn't that bad. The diggers have cleared the Monkton Mead outlet so they must be expecting trouble!
-
I can tell when there's no chance of snow and the winter is a write off when the posters in the model forum start prefacing with "it's just January".... This winter is not going to be cold or snowy unless you like a day of wet slop

I'm off to Ventnor this afternoon....... Probably not as severe as Wednesday but work has an unfortunate habit of interfering with wave watching
-
Surely the gradually increasing solar output needs to be taken into account. By the time February arrives and any cold would this not be a factor?

Chimet is not working - apparently it suffered a lightning strike on the 3rd Jan.
It's a lovely day here so far except that the Hovercraft has already cancelled due to strong winds.
Hight tide expected around mid afternoon but so far no indications of anything too dramatic

Thunder and lightning here plus very gusty winds
-
A sunny and relatively windy morning here, ferries running and as yet no dramas........

Extra pumps are in place for the Monkton Mead outlet at Ryde. I cannot remember rain like this for years. If it doesn't stop soon there will be some flooding along the seafront

Blowing well here now!

Gusting F11 in the Solent, steady F10, we are getting hammered right now.....
-
F10 gusting F11....... See Chimet, this is incredibly strong and rising
-
Shipping forecast was reduced from Hurricane force 12 to severe storm 11 for Wight..... If it's only gusting to 55 knots now that's going to be horrendous here (east Wight)

Cleaning a black car yesterday the sun was sufficiently strong at 15.40 to produce a noticeable amount of evaporation showing as wisps of vapour where the water (cold) was drying. On Sunday here it was glorious and warm enough to sit in the very bright sun..........surely it's all over bar the (forum) shouting?
Mind you today is a sack of cack but we are on the right track
