  1. Hi all, Today in Brighton it is flying ant day! I think this seems earlier than usual. Normally the ants appear later in the season and also later in the day. Today there has been a mass exodus around 10am in cloudy skies with the sun trying to break through around 22C. Does any one know what the ideal conditions are for this mass reproductive cycle to start? I remember a couple of years ago when I was in Northampton for the weekend that all the flying ants emerged shortly before a tremendous thunderstorm. Surely this wasn't good timing? C
  2. Hadley CET is now at 15.3C upto the 21st after yesterday came in at 13.8C. The value of 14.6C from the day before has also been adjusted down to 13.6C I notice. c
  3. August similar to this month. I'll go for 15.6ºC.
  4. If you look at the summer seasons since 1970 till present day it is interesting to note that 9 summers between 1970 and 1990 were in the coldest 100 recorded, whereas since 1990 there has been no summer in that coldest 100. Conversely, since 1990 there have been 12 summers in the warmest 100. Between 1970 and 1990 7 summers were recorded in the top 100 with 1976(of course!) being the warmest summer ever recorded at 17.77C. So between 1970 and 1990 there was a far wider variation of summer since that period since. http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/
  5. Well done TM this month and to sundog for consistently good results. To get 4 out of 5 months within 0.3ºC takes some doing! Thanks to Jackone for all the hard work in producing the results and so quickly as well after the monthly CET is announced. Good luck to all for next month.....whatever the weather! c
  6. upto 28.0C in central London at 1600BST. That could be the max today though I hope not summer.
  7. Latest obs show that Heathrow is 25.9C at 13.00BST. I reckon it will max out around 28-29C in a couple of hours. So not looking like 30C will be broken today.
  8. Hi all, Great thread this. More so because this is the first year that I have attempted to grow my own greenhouse fruit and veg in my greenhouse at work. I am growing strawberries, 3 types of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and chillies and various herbs. I have 3 cucumber plants , 2 in a grow bag and 1 in a pot. I have already harvested 3 cucumbers which taste so much better than shop bought. However I have a problem with the potted cucumber plant which has some good sized cucumbers already developing. The cucumbers, in the middle of the plant, which are no more than 5cms long, have turned yellow and stopped developing. Does anyone know what could be causing this? They have been fed and watered religiously. Many thanks in anticipation! c
  9. Something certainly appears to have gone haywire there! The CET this year would be around 0ºC judging by that! Opplevelse you're welcome.
  10. I looked this up some time ago. The 3 sites are Rothamsted, Malvern and Stoneyhurst all equally weighted. Further info: http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/ParkerH...T_IJOC_2005.pdf c
  11. I reckon that we will have another year ending in an 8 where the July CET doesn't get above 16ºC. I'll go for 15.7ºC. c
  12. Excellent, I just got in and found out I am one of the lucky 20 in the draw! Thanks Paul for the opportunity. It seems that all those hours spent following this years chase weren't wasted. I knew Mr Fish had been upgraded on his birthday and hoped my lucky punt was within range. c.
  13. Just seen the TIV and many chasers at Ness City on Chris Rice chase cam
  14. Big tornado on the ground at Quinter courtesy of Matt Grantham

  19. Where are you now and what is the most important factor when choosing where to go when the at risk area is so vast? I'm going to pin the tail somewhere between El Dorado and Greenville from looking at the nw charts. Good Luck and stay safe. c edit seeing NF post terrain is very important
  20. Cor blimey I have never seen clouds form as quick as on Stu's chasecam. It's like it is playing on fast forward!
  21. The storm north of Garden City seems to be increasing in intensity with a definite hook in its tail. I wonder if there is a tornado on the ground now- certainly the relative motion analysis is interesting!
  22. Stu seems to be driving hard to get there.(Western Kansas). Lets hope he makes it in time to see some action. Tornados already reported! http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/last3hours.html c
