  1. Snowless?? The met office summary detailed snow events in the south west and southern Wales
  2. I must be getting old....can anyone remind me of what occurred during March 2013?? What parts of the country fared best etc?? Right I'm off to the docs to get my head checked
  3. Am I correct in that a lot of the above can be forecast a long way out or is a known now for next winter and beyond?? Things like El nino and solar activity etc??
  4. Well I'm currently at Loughborough uni and I woke up to a slight covering on the floor and it's been snowing this morning also....more than I seen in 2 years down in South Wales....quit moaning you lucky buggers
  5. I have had a few ski holidays to the Pyrenees...pas de la casa is a superb resort...especially if you like the après ski fun there are some excellent runs there too. Plus the cheap supply of cigs and aftershave etc as it is a tax free area. People should give it a go they wouldn't be disappointed
  6. Well not As clear as mud !!
  7. When forecastes say "moving over South Western parts of England and Wales" does that mean South western England and South Western Wales ......or ......South Western England and Wales as in the whole country???
  8. Not all of Wales i may add....us south eastern areas often miss out as the precipertation fades away over the welsh mountains
  9. Surely though BA Only fringes of the coasts, mainly North west and east and inland Scotland look like being affected with regards to any snow?? Can't see how this would be more country wide than the previous spell...unless I'm reading wrong from the latest charts?
  10. Haha I'm sure I can remember thinking that...can't recall which cold spell though?? Surely wasn't one of the majors from a few years back?
  11. Hey guys...After a bit of help with a choice of resort for end of month. i have been to Sauze, Morzine, Mayrhofen and Pas de la casa. I loved Mayrhofen especially for the apres ski and the vast range of tree run type skiing. Can anyone recommend any other resorts to try?? Especially with apres ski in mind and excellent skiing on offer? Was thinking Chamonix?? Any help guys? Cheers
  12. Yes well pointed out.....does anyone think that eventually all the pieces of the puzzle will be put together to be able to confidentially call say weather patterns correctly on a consistent basis for say a 20-30 day timescale??? Surely if we don't understand how all the pieces fit the models that are programmed as they are (I:e not truly correct by today's understanding) then they are pretty much useless for say a period of 5 day plus?
  13. Snowing...lightly...but snowing
  14. Excellent early prediction from a few days back there Steve....even if I'm only about 30 miles outside the God damn blue snow zone 😡
  15. Would it be possible for anyone to give a brief explanation of the MJO, the different phases and what each phase means to weather patterns (I:e our locale if possible) Not sure if this is easily explainable? Thanks in advance
  16. Excellent reasoning snowking. Whilst the timing of this isn't at the start of winter as you pointed out the running analysis from the gents who you mentioned is of great help for us all to learn from...even if we don't see any impact in our part of the world from any downwelling that occurs. Hopefully the thread sparks in to life from these chaps in upcoming days as this will be a good sign of what might occur in the non too distant future.
  17. Thanks for the reply feb It does seem that the usual experts comments and analysis has wained of late. Of course everyone has other things going on in their own lives....just a bit surprised that this thread is not a tad livelier with what is going on regarding the strat at the moment.
  18. Was this warming forecast??? Are we looking at a pleasant surprise here? So hopefully the ramifications of this will feed into the trop quickly and the heart of winter will reep the benefits for us in the uk.
  19. Hi CC or anyone else who can replySorry for being a bit dumb on this matter but ideally where would we want the vortex to setup to enable blocking to our North West to occur?? Would we want the vortex to set up as one in this locale? Or split and have a daughter vortex in this location? sorry for the confusion and if in the wrong thread....just wanted to keep an eye on this in future model output. Regards WW
  20. That forecast was from a couple of days ago unfortunately....prospects looked a lot better then for us down South wales
  21. Not quite at the moment according to Mr Steve Murr's current analysis....we are just a tad too South as usual. Things can change but at the moment it is looking a midland North event. So mid Wales up may be fine...here's hoping for a correction of the cold to filter South. Would be good if an experienced poster could put a chart in showing what to look out for and for this to happen. Any takers on this guys and girls??
  22. Aww for once Mr Murr's comments are very sobering for us snow aholics South of the Midlands Hope these lows that can be very frequently over cooked are once again toned down allowing a colder fetch of air to reach us below the magical midland snow line
  23. Crikey haha no wonder there is so much confusion. Chris Fawkes states there is a SSW which is not far from a major SSW....yet I read posts from Bluearmy'(not having a go) saying a SSW is no longer predicted....thus leading to confusion I think with so many less knowledgable readers like myself
  24. Thanks for clearing that up. So not going according to plan
