Supposed to be turning to rain for a short period tonight, but more snow forecast tomorrow. I'm off on holiday tomorrow as its Spring (ha ha) Break here, hopefully the house will not be blown into the Bay overnight. Its been a fabulous Winter here so far, I'm glad we moved here..... 3. Hi all, Snowday yesterday, gone today though. Not too much rain fell but snow was wet, so didn't hang around too long. Snow packs beginning to diminish somewhat. Apparently The Maritimes has seen approx 10feet of snow this Winter, with March still to come. Is this about the Norm? Wether today, lovely and warm, -6 but could honestly sit out on the porch in a T Shirt the sun is that strong. Can I mention it feels like Spring yet or will I be called crazy........lol TTFN Debs
  4. Hi All, Freeze up arrived with a vengence, I now no longer have a pond in my garden, but I am thinking of asking the Toronto Maple Leafs if the want to use the ice rink I have outside to do some training.......I'll charge them just enough to buy a house outright....... Keep seeing Ice Cakes floating over the Fundy Bay........must be of the melt we had over the weekend. TTFN debs
  5. Hi all, Its a crisp clear night here. Loking out my living room window I can see the moon is rising over the Bay of Fundy and reflecting beautifully. I have my binoculars at the ready. Scheduled time is in an hour and peaking at 10pm, but will look out bedroom window later to check it out. Its nice to be out of town. No light pollution TTFN Debs
  6. And just when I was beginning to see grass for the first time in 2 months http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif I'll put off buying a pool for a while then and use the lake in the garden TTFN Debs

  8. Wow Blast you certainly live upto your name....O Levels indeed, that certainly is a blast from the past.......lol. That puts you in my age bracket.....!!!!!! shhhhhhhhhhh. Also if you want to experience the temps just come on over, lots of paper work but well worth the effort. Roger thanks for the information. Im looking after a friends farm this week so I guess I'll keep the horses in tomorrow. Yozzer, I am about 30km east of Saint John. Moved here last year and loving the snow. Hopefully no power cuts tomorrow, will let you know how the storm went. TTFN Debs
  9. Hi Well as you said Roger, the snow came here overnight, woke up to about 7 inches of lying snow, still snowing now but only slightly. Its -8 outside and the wind is whipping up some snow. Wind chill at -17. Theres supposed to be a winter storm heading our way Wednesday, can anyone confirm this as I still sadly do not have a TV? I love that picture you posted Canadiancoops, it shows just how cold -39 is......brrrrrrrrr TTFN Debs
  10. Hi All, Well shocked yesterday to see snow, it certainly wasn't forecast and we had about 5cm in a few hours. Its just flurries at the moment. Temps are about -3. More snow expected but only light snow with accumulations of 1 - 3 cm. TTFN Debs
  11. Hi Roger, Cheers for the update. Temps are rising, it was a beautifully warm day yesterday at -3 and the sunshine, had the doors open for the fresh air. Sun shining again today (-10) and its nice to see a little green grass, although thats mostly in Saint John not here, but still nice to see. Makes you look forward to summer. TTFN Debs
  12. Hi Roger, Not moving away from St Martins just to a different house with the beach as my back garden......great for the summer, so I am still 30km east of Saint John. Thanks for the weather update. TTFN Debs
  13. Hi Roger, We have strong wind warning in place for this evening with freezing rain. Is this the same weather yo are having at present. I hate not having a TV to see whats happening in our area, so any information is greatly appreciated. Cheers Debs
  14. Hi Greyowl, I might speak to the locals about the book. I'm sure they will know which one it is. I did see a programme on the Ice Storms back in UK, but actually seeing a milder form of it was pretty interesting. I've just read Rogers post about the SNow Hurricane in Scotland......sounds nasty. Will watch the BBC on the net to see what happens. Is the UK set for something like this????? TTFN Debs
  15. HI all. I was watching the weather channel round my friends tonight and they mentioned that parts of Saskatchewan were having windchills temps of -51 degrees and then mentioned that frost bite would occur within 5 minutes. That was a hard thing to fathom. The lowest windchill I've felt here is -30 and that was unbearable. We've had about a foot of snow in about 10 hours here in St Martins but since around 3pm its been ice pellets and freezing rain. I've never seen freezing rain before and a pretty wierd thing to see, just settling on your car and forming a sheild of ice...wow fascinating to see. The wind is picking up a little outside and more freezing rain is forecast as well as a mixture of snow with another 5 - 10cms. That make things interesting tomorrow. TTFN Debs
  16. Hi there, It looks pretty nice out there at present what a shame the rain will follow. Nice big snow flakes and that can only mean the temperatures are warming, so I guess the rain is inevitable :-( Ah well. I was reading on here that UK might have some snow, that will be good for the snow lovers there. Hope it comes off for them, it'll be nice to see some of the pictures on here. TTFN Debs

  18. Hi Roger, Cheers for teh heads up. Typical that I am moving and the weather turns bad......sods law really as it means I will be running in and out of cars and houses in the rain.....hopefully it wn't be too prolonged...... TTFN Debs
  19. Hello everyone, Its cold here again today presently temps are -21 and the windchill is -30 and I must admit you can feel that wind alot....brr. Its lovely and sunny again today, so thats three days of azure blue skies and cold temps. I think sunny days do make it easier to take the lower temps, and you don't feels as depressed IMO. Hope we get more snow soon though as our igloo is wilting slightly as is "Shifty" the Snowman..... (My daughters choice of name....not mine...lol) TTFN Debs
  20. Hi Dee, Well just checked on news channel. Tomorrow is going to be about -14 not too sure of windchill and the rest of the week is going to be below freezing. I'm sure others on here will definately give a more in depth report but those are the basics.....bring your thermals and your french translation.......whats bringing you to Montreal, business or pleasure? Debs
  21. Hiya, I have to agree with you Whitefox, when I worked in New York I never felt unsafe. I remember have great chats after wotrk in the local bars and I also remember how upfront they were. One of the first questions I was ever asked in a New York bar was how much do I earn, now being British I was slighly taken aback that someone wold ask that in a conversation, considering that I never really knew them, but then I realised that its normal and its not a way of being materialistic, its just their way and I loved it. I also lived in the Carolinas and boy of boy was that religious......there were more churches than houses, but still an experience I wouldn't have turned down and it snowed there once as well whilst I was there. Now from a single 25 year old females point of view (at that time) Washington DC was a paradise.....think Officer and a Gentleman...... In defence of the New Brunswick weather I will have to say that last summer (and I am not too sure whether this is normal) we had temps into the 30's with humidity making it feel more like 40 degrees, but even if it only reaches mid 20's I'll be happy because there is the guarantee of sunshine and not constant rain like there seems to have been in the UK for the last few years. Weather today has snow flurries at present but its a lot milder out there again today....does'nt feel like -8 outside which is good. I have no satalite at the moment as I am moving house next week and already given them a months notice so its diconnected, so if there are any pending storms please keep me advised. Ta very much Debs
  22. Something I forgot to mention, don't come out here if you are a football (soccer to us) fanatic, you won't be able to survive for sure then. It has gotten a bit better, at least there is some coverage on TV now of the premier league and international matches, but not all that much. And the local professional soccer is about on a par with the Second Division in the UK. Perhaps not even that good.
  23. Hi Jethro, Can't comment on the locals out West but here on the East Coast they are very very friendly. I once lived in America and loved their friendliness then I came to Canada and discovered that they are even more friendly. I can tell you that houses are cheaper here and one would argue that there may not be the salaries that the West provide, but you have to weigh up the pros and cons. For instance for 89,ooo I get 4 bedrooms plus 6 acres but out west I may only get a toen house or apartment for that price.......Theres work here if you want to work and a good salary is approx $30,000 a year and this makes it liveable. If there is more than one person working then even better. Life is slower and the roads are emptier here. Visited Toronto just after new year and hated every minute of the roads. (16 lanes of traffic makes the M25 seem tranquil). Try to avoid Montreal its like living in Paris. This French province has all road signs, warnings and billboards in French, you will very rarely find and english signpost. Lets just say the French are French and I have yet found a person from Quebec who will speak English to me even when I try to speak French. Sorry but I find them arrogant. I love the temperatures out here and all the snow, I keep looking at the UK temps and thank God I am not there this year. Come on over, the weather is fabulous and the folk are friendly........don't take anyones word for it though, you have to experience it and judge for yourself. I have a good way of describing where I live at present......its like being back in time when you knew your neighbor and the was such a thing as "community" but you still have all the mod cons of present day. Hope this helps. Weather today is very snowy and much warmer than yesterday, currently at -6. I will also point out that temperatures feel different here. If its -6 in England it feels much colder than it does over here. Strange!!!!!! I will agree with Roger in that you do feel -20 when it happens but you learn to always wear hats, gloves, thermals and a good coat. Its a natural progress when getting ready to leave the house. Oh and try and get a car that starts from teh keyring, that way you get to warm it up a bit before you get in. I know I will have people screaming at me about the ozone layer, but -20 is brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. TTFN Debs
  24. Morning all, Well its cold here, presently -20 with a windchill of -27.......it feels bitingly cold outside. Todays high will be -15 and snow forecast for tomorrow. Not too sure how much but theres no weather warning out so must not be too much to worry about. Having to use a hot water bottle to keep my feet warm. Even with slippers on these laminate floors are freezing......... TTFN Debs
  25. Hello peeps, Well a cold day today, presently at -18, no wind thankfully. Possibility of more snow tomorrow although with the temps set to rise above zero this may be sleet or even all rain. Will keep you posted. TTFN Debs
