  1. Hiya all, Started snowing here in NB around 2.30pm yesterday and is still snowing now. During the day the flakes are smaller but when the temps dropped the flakes are much bigger. Having said that we currently have about a foot of snow. Weather forecasters said we were getting about 2cm an hour for a wee while and I can certainly say that at around 5 to 7 pm I could'nt see the barn outside. Snowing is not as intense now and temps are at -6 with a windchill of -14. Its dry snow so no sledging today http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif TTFN Debs
  2. Hiya, The forecast for New Brunswick is for snow, particularly on the coast. Temps presently at -3 with a windchill of -8. Seems like it is going to get colder during the week. Tomorrow is forecast to be -9 with a windchill of -15. Not sure of the snow depths as yet but will let you know. TTFN Debs
  3. Hi, I can confirm that the BBCs prediction was correct. We went on a road trip and we were at Niagara yesterday and it was warm and almost sultry with the spray from the falls. We felt like right prats as we only brought along our winter coats and boots. The falls were lovely though. Nearly all the snow has gone from Toronto and heading back East, we are presently between Montreal and Quebec, the temps and at 5c and there still snow around but not as much as when we passed through on Friday/Saturday. 4. Hi all, Not as bad here as other parts of Canada, but thought I would post some pictures. Thought I'd call ithem "nowhere for the snow to go" As I write this the snow is lessening and once its over there will be more snow for the snow ploughs to move onto those mounds. TTFN Debs
  5. Cheers for the warning. The basement has a pump. We heard that there is usually a small thaw during January then it starts again. Present conditions are quite bad, We've had over a foot of snow over night and its still coming. We've quit shovelling till its over. Since Saturday last week we have had about 60 cms of snow and in the drifts its comes upto my waist. Went sledging yesterday again, and my bones ache. I must remember I'm not a kid anymore and when you do a backwards roll off the sledge YOU WILL ACHE the next day:-). What can I say I love it. TTFN Debs
  6. Hiya all, Thought I would post a couple more photos. The first one is just of the local wildlife in my back garden and the last two are weather. Enjoy.
  7. Hi All, Snowed quite alot today, well over a foot which is a little more than was forecast. Managed to sledge on a sand bank and down onto the beach, which was covered in snow. Never seen anything like that before. Managed to do a bit a sledging myself and I am sure I will feel my age tomorrow when I wake up, especially after doing several back flips off the board. Down to -10 tonight and a little more snow forecast for tomorrow and Wednesday. HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL. TTFN Debs Hi Rain, I know the disappointment of a marginal as I am only a recent immigrant to this country and one of my main reasons to move here was for the snow....honest I'm not kidding. I still have family there which is why I am hoping Basingstoke gets some snow from the possible snow event on Thursday. I can recommend a move here for anyone who would love to relive their youth or just experience this weather. I have been told by the locals that I will tire of this snow but I don't think so........... http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif TTFN Debs
  8. Hello all. Forecast for here this evening and into tomorrow is for 15 - 20cms. We had about 20cm yesterday (Saturday) and it warmed ujp slighlty today but back down to below freezing again tonight. Its a good job I'm not tiring of shovelling snow yet, but I think I will invest in a snow blower for next year http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif , they look so much easier. Ta ta for now Debs PS. Hope the cold spell in UK next week materialises and you all ge a white out.......
  9. Hi Roger, I think you are right about the winds they seem mild in comparison to what we've experienced so far this December, but I'll keep my oil lamp close by just in case. I'm hoping this will last a while because it has been pretty boring weatherwise these last few days. Hope you had a good Christmas. TTFN Debs
  10. Hi Peeps, Another snow storm forecast for tonight with upto 20cm aparently. Looking out my window I can see the snow falling and already the driveway (which had a partial melt over the last couple of days) is already covered. Its set to continue through the night with high winds blowing the snow around. I suppose that means we'll lose power again as the power lines are bound to fall. What a life......Love it TTFN Debs
  11. Hi Slinky, Yet again, another beaufiful picture. Can I have it as a desktop picture please. TTFN Debs
  12. Hi Acchos, I have to agree with this. I uncovered quite a few of my diaries from the 70's 80's and decided to read through them. Theres mention of quite a few snow events and schools days off because the pipes had burst. The diaries span from 1976 to 1985 and every year theres mention of snow. Now I grew up in Washington, Tyne and Wear, so we were pretty much North of the country. The earlier diaries I kept were a little bare as I was only 9 at the time but there was a mention of the 1976 heatwave and the fact the the Kielder Reservoir was drying up. There was even the mention of Erica Row in one of my diaries (don't ask why coz I can't remember,) and lots of other exciting facts like GMTV starting and Channel 4....oh it was so nice reminicing.......oops drifting off there, anyway the 80's did provide lots of snow and it was great, thats why I moved over here to relive my childhood memories. TTFN Debs PS Hope I have'nt given away my age too much.....lol
  13. Hey that sounds like the village I live in.....don't knock it....... TTFN Debs
  14. Cheers for the links Mick. You learn very quickly to be prepared here. After the first power cut I went out and bought a couple of oil lamps because they are brighter and also warm your hands up better than candles I will make sure that when we buy a house it will definately have a wood stove in it. The house I am renting presently only has electric heating........but if its too cold you just head off to bed if its night time or wrap up in blankets, or in our case we dash round to our friends and sit in front of their fire and have a drink or two or three........... 15. Hiya all, This is should cheer you up.......enjoy. http://www.thecompassgroup.biz/merryxmas.swf Merry Christmas. everyone................and heres hoping it snows for one and all Ta ta Debs
  16. Hiya Peeps, Thought I'd update before the power goes out. Storm has hit St Martins about an hour ago. Winds pretty strong. As I am not into the technical stuff, thats about all I can say. Snow coming down fast and blowing around. They are expecting about 20cm tonight. TTFN Debs
  17. Hi peeps, I hope you get snow for Christmas over there and I agree with it being so much nicer if its frosty and cold before the day. I remember going Christmas shopping in Sunderland (before the built a roof of the mall) and carrying all those bags of goodies and my fingers were freezing and my nose was red and I could see my breath. It was'nt that long ago. So heres hoping this works out for everyone. TTFN Debs
  18. Hey Jethro, Its nice here, I can certainly recommend it. Houses are cheap too, with lots of land and they are desperate for immigrants to this area due to the majority of working age people heading off to Alberta to make their fortune. So its worth a try getting in here. Takes time though. Be warned. To answer the question on Seasons I am a novice, my first winter here, but I was surprised at how noticeable the season changed from Fall to Winter. Slap bang on Decemeber 1st we had snow, and that snow is still on the ground. In the last 12 days I think I have seen the temperature above 0 degrees only twice and the highest it reached was 3 degrees, I have seen one "drizzle" from this which did nothing to penatrate the snow. I have been told, however, that the seasons are like that of England in as much as they are temperate. TTFN Debs Oh Boy, Looks like I better stock up on candles again, the power is bound to go out.....lol Chers for the heads up Whitefox TTFN Debs
  19. Hiya Whitefox, Thanks for the inofrmation...yes I am getting used to strong winds and power outages...biggest lesson being that when the power goes out you freeze your ass off http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif . Mind you I am a Northern Lass originally so I can take it, why back in Sunderland we walked around in T Shirts to show how hard we were.... http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif TTFN Debs Yes John, Weather definately different here. I have'nt had as many rainy days as what I was used to in UK, and I remember thinking one day, when it did rain, how nice it was to see the rain.....strange really but I actually enjoyed the rainy day. I do like it here alot more though, it may be cold but you get cold crisp sunny days more often than dank grey wet cold days that we get in UK. Glad the map helped TTFN Debs
  20. Hi John, Not sure if this link will work, but this is where I am http://www.expedia.co.uk/pub/agent.dll. If it doesn't come out then if you find on a map where Nova Scotia is then across the Bay of Fundy you will see the City of Saint John (again not to be confused with St Johns in Newfoundland). I am slightly NE of Saint John on the coast. Hope this helps. TTFN Debs PS I used to live in Sheringham in Norfolk before moving Basingstoke for a while then moving to here.
  21. Cheers for all tha info FFO, I've just heard something on the news about the delay. I feel my post was a little bit less informaive than yours so thanks for the update. All in all it wil be a good site to see. TTFN Debs
  22. Hiya again, Sorry I should have given you more information on how to locate ISS. But the link above is good and yes you can see it with the nakes eye. TTFN Debs
  23. Hiya all, Thought I would mention that the ISS is going to be quite clear in the sky this weekend as they are replacing solar panels with brighter ones so its going to be alot more clearer in the sky. Debs
