  1. Ouch!!!!!!! Hope you're okay. My little one done the same thing this morning, slipped on the porch. I cleared it off but more snow fell overnight. I have'nt seen any really big flakes yet, perhaps this is because I live near the beach. Still theres lying snow and I am a happy bunny. TTFN Debs

  3. Hiya, Thought I would contribute a couple of pictures. First 3 are general and the last 3 are weather. Enjoy and I hope you see something like this back home in England. TTFN Debs Hiya peeps, I downloaded resizing programme but not sure how it works. If anyone can resize these great, if not enjoy them anyway. TTFN Debs
  4. Was about to get on a plane to the west coast until you mentioned the 8 inches were of snow....... ...c'est la vie We had 24 hours here of snow, started around 11.30 Monday morning and continued through, woke up Tuesday to my daughters first official (and deserved) snow day. Built an igloo, it was still snowing. Had a foot of snow in 24 hours and just up the road in Moncton, they got 46 cm. Got down to -8 last night with a wind chill of about -16. More flurries forecast for tonight into tomorrow. I will just say that I am getting used to the terms they use on the weather stations.... Flurries = The amount of snow coming down in UK to justify shutting schools (but that usually stops after a few hours, this keeps going and going, should call it duracell really) Wet Snow = The good sticky stuff that you can actually make a snowman with. Light Snow = The equivalent to the British Blizzard, but again it just keeps on going ang going..... Heavy Snow = Well if light is what I am used to as a blizzard in England, I look forward to Heavy snow soon. According to the locals this is mild. I pinch myself at this because I have just went through a snow storm, with power outages and a foot of snow and this is mild. GULP! 6. LOL Love it..........its amazing what FX you can make with digi cameras Kidding. Awaiting the next promised snow. Took daughter for a drive yesterday, well not quite a drive more like a drag, we tied some rope to the back of the car and dragged her along on her sled........love it TTFN Debs Oh bit pf a heatwave here at present......its 0 degrees, might go put on my shorts and T Shirt......
  7. Hiya Peeps, We had snow here yesterday with more forcast today. From the point of view of a recent immigrant to this nation I am over the moon. Temps were at -4 (not as low as other parts of Canada I know but low enough to freeze ass) and they got down further overnight to -10. Windchill made it feel -22. My hubbies beer had turned to slush...he'd left it in the car overnight and just opened it this afternoon .....hubby thinks its great and wants to sell it commercially.....anyone interested . Reports indicate that this could be a traditional canadian winter and alot colder than previous winters.....here's hoping. Anyway I thought I post a couple of photos. Still haven't made a snowman yet...snows quite dry. TTFN
  8. Hi Roger, tried to view your videos. I am a member of Bebo but was unable to view them. Any chance you could send them another way, would love to see those. Temps here today upto 14c, very mild day. Nothing too fantastic going on here in New Brunswick. Monday morning woke up to see the Bay of Fundy "steaming". First time I've ever seen that, where the sea temps are higher than the air temps and create a steam effect. Does this have a special name? Let me know. TTFN Debs
  9. ROFLMAO One of the best discussions on here for a long while......love it. Bravo..............MORE.................CLAP CLAP CLAP...............MORE ENCORE Debs
  10. Hiya, Snowed here over night. 5cm laying here but upto 15cm in some places. Temps down to -4 overnight. Wind was very strong almost as strong as last Saturdays hurricane. . Electricity went out for 10 hours because of the ice forming on power lines. Small snowflakes fell most of the night though, woke up to covering. Nothing lavish I am sure but nice to see. Temps forcast to get to -10 overnight. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Debs
  11. On Saturday evening we had the remains of hurricane Noel hit us. Winds upto 140 kph. Anyway, the electricity went out and we lit candles. My 10 year old daughter said "this is so boring". I think she mean't that no lights, tv, PC anything that uses electricity did not work. My point is that although I try to teach green issues, the generations of today are used to "creature comforts". I remember the strikes of the 70's. Power went out quite frequently and we survived. Again my point is, until the whole world can GO BACK IN TIME and start living a life without MOD CONS as an essential tool, then we'll never decrease the amount of poison we are putting into the air. Now I am being hypocritical because I use a washer, and sometimes the dryer and I am even using my PC now, the heat is cranked up as its cold and although I can picture and idyllic life of basic living, the reality is that we as humans are so much weaker than our counterparts say 200 years ago. Humans need to change their way of thinking what the WANT as opposed to what the NEED. So we put in energy efficient lightbulbs, big deal. How many people have those in place then leave the TV on standby at night.....what about wind turbines, a useful source of energy, what about solar energy, again another green source of energy, why don't people use this? Because its too expensive to purchase outright. Easy car credit gives more and more people the opportunity to own more than one car. I live in a street where every family member had a car....its was a bit like the programme Butterflies (older generation will remember). These are just a few examples and I am sure there are millions more. I guess after all my ramblings (sorry)all I am trying to say is WE need to change, GW maybe happening, but we can help. Governments will never stopping thinking of money first, but if the world gets any worse all the money in the world won't matter. Debs
  12. Hi, Electricity went out about 7.15pm and is back on now. Wind was strong but thankfully not too damaging. Shook the house a few times. St Martins is East of Saint John on the fundy bay. By Midnight the winds got stonger and never stoped blowing. Pretty scary actually. Woke this morning to sunny skies and slightly windy weather and the forcast is good for less wind in the afternoon. Have'nt thrown the emergency water away yet just in case the power goes out again:-)
  13. Hi Guys, Noel began to make a show about an hour ago here in New Brunswick. I'm right on the coast (St martins where the world highest tides are) and the waves are lashing up already. Wind is pretty strong and rain coming down slightly horizontallyWarnings are to prepare for the worst. High tide due in a little under 3 hours (7.51 AST). Predicted winds are now at 120 to 140 K. Its my first "hurricane" type weather so pretty excited. Will let you know how bad/good it was, if I still have electricity tomorrow and a telephone line. Would take photos but may be too dark, but will give it a go. Wish me luck Debs
  14. I'd hate to see the bloody spider ....lovely photo though... Debs

  16. Hey Whitefox I notice you are from Reading, we just moved from Basingstoke. Last year we had one day of snow, well actually half a day of snow which accumulated to about 3 inches and the whole of Basingstoke practicaly came to a standstill. Schools closed and companies were debating whether to shut early and let workers gohome. A journey of around 10 minutes took me 45 minutes. By lunchtime the snow had gone and that was that for our snow this year. When did you jump ship to this side of the pond? Why did you jump ship? TTFN Debs
  17. I've been on this site more or less since it opened and never spotted this forum before.......HI Y'all. I gave up with British Weather and moved here in July. Looking forward to snow this year at Christmas and beyond. Came over for a visit in March and loved seeing the lakes all frozen with thick ice and the hills and mountains and towns covered in snow.......can't wait. I know people keep telling me I'll get sick of the snow after a few years but I doubt it. No such thing as cold weather just bad clothing or so I've been told. so even if I have to dress up in a snow suit and look like a tellytubbie I'll be out there enjoying the white stuff. Weather here in NB is cloudy today and its actually nice to see some clouds and feel the change in the weather. I went for a walk along the beach on Friday and got sunburned and although I'm not complaining, it does take some getting used to. The weather is pretty diverse though and all I can say is BRING IT ON...... TTFN Debs
  18. Cheers Grey Wolf, Yes I suppose my OU stuff was outdated, science is forever changing. New discoveries everyday. I'm sorry if this subject has been covered. Don't get much time to look on here as much as I would like to, but your comments are good and links are enlightening. Thank you. Debs
  19. Thanks for those replies. Just a point to make. I recently took and Open Uni course and it mentioned the effects of Polar Ice melt shutting down the North Atlantic current because of the amount of fresh, cold water being added to the areas around the Artic Ice region, thus slowing or even as mentioned, shutting down the current altogether. Now if the Polar region is diminishing (melting), and freshwater is being added to the conveyor which in turn would switch off, which in turn would create colder winters for many decades/centuries, wouldn't this produce more ice which would then create an albedo effect reflecting the suns heat from the surface thus deminishing the greenhouse effect over time and returning the earth back to "normal". I use the word normal for simplicity because I know that normals today or 100 years ago will not be the same normal that this sort of event would leave behind. Now I know this sounds very much "day after tomorrow movie scenario," but l think that to a certain degree if this scenario were to be the consequence of polar ice melt then its mother natures way of repairing it wounds inflicted by years of abuse and as long as we learn by these mistakes, then surely something good can come from this. Having said this, the likihood of mankind ever learning by its mistakes is slim to none. Again, any comments appreciated. TTFN Debs
  20. Having read all the posts on this topic, and being a bit of a skeptic about it all being down to GW as opposed to the end of an interglacial period, albeit speeded up by our wasteful ways and lack of consideration, I came across this in the BBC archives...makes for interesting reading. As I'm no expert on Polar Ice melt I'm asking if this could be possible??????? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/467928.stm All comment greatly appreciated. TTFN Debs
  21. Hello everyone, Here are a my pictures for you too look at. I've just got myself I new Digital camera so I am starting to take it everywhere with me these days as there so many new things to discover in my new country. Being a mum, I had to put one of my daughter in there as well.............
  22. Only been here a couple of months....hoping the snow will arrive soon though. Got sick of waiting for snow to come to UK so I moved out here. Having said that, the "colours" are nice and I am sure there is more to come. I will post more piccies as and when I get some. Debs
  23. Morning all and hi Stephen, Color change of leaves here has been happening for a couple of weeks and is intensifying now Autumn has arrived. Below are a couple of pictures of the leaves and they are not digitally enhanced, they really are that colorful. It seems that half a tree will start to change color then the other half will start to change once the other leaves have start ed to fall, its lovely to watch. Debs
