  1. well it wasnt thursday so has to be today or monday. i guess today is more likely
  2. raining in london. as expected! now waiting for the wild winds tomorrow
  3. thanks john. 486dm must be mighty chilly!
  4. out of interest what dam air is a classification lower than 492?
  5. thanks for the feedback guys. i guess the best place near the uk to experience 492 air is greenland! problem is getting there takes quite a while
  6. probably one for mr data, but i just wondered if 492 air has ever reached our shores. i think almost certainly not, as lets face it 510 air is a rarity these days. just a passing query. LS
  7. had a text from a friend in p banus earlier saying it was still beach weather
  8. seems shear is kicking in now. touch and go whether ida makes US landfall as a hurricane or a TS. even so a potentially dangerous system
  9. ida rapidly intensifying, up to 45 sustained winds. looking much more organised on the satellite. where will she go? wouldnt be surprised if ida becomes a hurricane again in the next day or two, depending of course on whether she interacts with land. the shear in her path appears to be a stumbling block for Ida. anyhow, an interesting system so late in the season
  10. yup, ida is now a TD, and looking very disorganised
  11. wow, freaky. pravda's explanation does seem plausible
  12. only the other day i was dismissing the hurricane season as pretty much over. well that appears to have been a wrong call, with the arrival of Ida. could be a very interesting system, but also lethal in the short term as it makes landfall. question is, will it make it to the gulf, and then what. certainly one to watch like a hawk. I'm sure the southern us state authorities will be. EDIT. Latest advisory suggests 70 mph sustained winds, and just shy of hurricane status
  13. been annoyingly preoccupied with work etc today but we did have some very heavy rain around noon. all quiet now, and nice and cool
  14. i think we can say, albit cautiously, that the atlantic season is over. largely a disinteresting season.
  15. lets face it thunderstorms and snow are pretty difficult to forecast in these isles, so they lead to the most disappointment.
  16. yep we love the grauniad. personally i'm a fan of the indie though
  17. weather currently very dull, cloudy, dry. just had a look at the radar and the ppn heading east earlier appears to have diminished massively. we carry on mostly dry in the southeast
  18. was it right that arlene was kicked out of strictly?
  19. isnt it about time thread was closed. it's supposed to be about an article in the daily star. now its just become a place to muse on just about anything.
  20. interesting if somewhat dubious article. ive been to moscow several times in winter and everything runs well in the biggest blizzards. there underground system is fantastic, makes london's look like is was designed by hornby. it does seem very unfair on the suburbs if this dubious spraying system means the suburbs suffer so much, and will that not affect the commuters coming in to central moscow? imagine if the government announced a similar sceme for the uk's major cities, most of this forum would be marching on parliament!
  21. wow. rick is awesome. i dont normally pay much attention to eastern pacific systems but rick looks astonishing.
  22. interestingish that star backwards is rats, presumably because no one gives a rats a*** what the daily star print
  23. who buys the daily star? what a waste of trees
  24. can we fairly safely say that the 2009 atlantic hurricane season is over. what a benign season. the highlight for me was grace spinning into ireland. incredible imagary for this part of the world.
