  1. Skelmanthorpe/Emley Moor, Huddersfield: Been snowing here moderately since 7am this morning, no sign of it stopping. Been out and measured and we have roughly 4.5in lying snow thats fallen since it started this morning. I was under the impression this would be stoppong round about now, but there really doesn't appear to be any let up. Not that I'm complaining - I got sent home from work 'because of it! LOL
  2. Hi guys, any ideas for possible accumulations in Huddersfield/Emley Moor area? Have seen estimates for various amounts from light snow showers with little accumulation to reports of 10-20cms. An idea would be good as I'm wondering how much earlier I need to set my alarm to get to work? Thanks very much in anticipation, peeps.
  3. I am suppoesed to be going to see United vs Wigan at Old Trafford tonight - any idea on what the weather will be like?
  4. Yes, it was disappointing to look outside this morning and see nothing but clear pavements/roads. It snowed heavily earlier and left a thin, wet layer on the grass etc. Roads are full of slush. Currently snowing, but I am guessing the temp & DP are too high, as it is melting readily. Still, at least it is snowing. glynh Re. above, just goes to show what a difference a few miles east makes. No snow at all, sleeting steadily now, but most of lying snow now gone. Just looks dirty and miserable outside.
  5. On-off snow for about the last hour. Wind has really got up, and theres just been a couple lightening flashes and thunder rumbling away as well. Flakes really small now but still a high amount.
  6. This is much better!!! Temps holding steady at -0.5. Snowing heavily here and has been for about an hour and a half. Now got about 3in lying and rising very quickly. Roads covered over - even in Hudderfield TC - and that never happens! Supposed to be playing christmas carols up at the Dunkirk in at Denby Dale this afternoon - I think not!! LOL Still it'll be nice for playing around the village Chrsitmas tree tonight - carols and Brass Band accompaniment in Skelmanthorpe 7.30pm if anyone fancies it!
  7. Have woken up this morning to a dusting on the ground and beautiful clear skies. Temps of around -2.5 at present. Must admit to being rather disappointed at the none event we've experienced this time. Too far West for the Easterly, wrong side of the Pennines for the Westerly. Looks like my Mother-in-law has got it all this time (Bury, Lancs)!! Anyone want to stick their necks out and give me the chances of a rather snow-bare Huddersfield receiving a decent covering today?
  8. What are the real chances of Huddersfield seeing more of the good stuff on Thursday/Friday? Keep watching the models and the wind switches round but the white stuff seems to fizzle out before it reaches us here. Not sure which forecast to believe at the moment - some saying we're going to get dumped on, others not so. Any ideas guys?
  9. Yep, I'm inclined to agree with you! Temp outside has risen and the snow has given way to sleety grains. I'm disappointed to say the least - this was shaping up to be fab but just feel deflated now after all the hype on BBC...
  10. Just started here with really fine grains of snow, very light but definitely here. Wind also got up a bit as well.
  11. Would love about 8cm , but will probably end up with nowt, knowing my luck!
  12. I'm convinced that we had snow on Xmas Day in Huddersfield 2 or three years ago. I remember becuase the MiL was staying over and was panicking about driving back home to Bury in it. It was a crispy morning and it had snowed lightly through the night and then more light snow as we were eating breakfast. Worked out as only a dusting but it still counts, doesn't it?
  13. With regards to Bluebells flowering, they've been in bloom here for around the past 10 days. Infact, I went for a walk yesterday and noted that some are even dying off and shrivelling. Seems wrong somehow...
  14. B) Rather pathetic here in Dewsbury, where I'm working. Started at 8.50am with some promise, but its virtually been stop-start ever since, the emphasis more on stop than start. The snowflakes are really small and not settling at all. Really disappointed with it. Looks as though we're going to miss most of the action yet again! Congrats to all those who've had tons of the white stuff - enjoy it while you can!!!!! B)
  15. Hiya, I really need someone who knows more about reading the charts than I do to help me. I live in Huddersfield near Emley moor. I will be traveling to Southport for a wedding on Saturday morning. Am I likely to experience any problems or should I travel on the Friday night instead. I realise it might seem a bit of a silly question to ask but looking at all the different forecasts is giving a different outlook everytime I look. Plus, I'm not too great a reading the charts, so PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEE can SOMEONE help me? snowday. x
  16. Cheers for the above, but I don't class where I live as either North West or North East. We're slap down the middle of the country and seem to miss out on everything exciting that happens. Can anyone can tell me if its actually going to snow here in Huddersfield over this week and at the weekend? I also have a wedding in Southport on Saturday that I have to travel over to and am wondering if I should wear my strappy shoes or wellies to the do!
