  1. Must be off then by miles, because i can still hear the rumbles from the storm which just passed now off to my NE over towards towcester / northants border. More to the SW as i type. Something bigs a brewing, sky has that look and the air feels right.
  2. Storm heres fairly odd, keeps knocking my dsl connection out, all lightning seen is IC based and thunder has an odd sort of crisp hollow sound, so i think it's very high based. Good though, looks to be moving off in the direction of northampton now, but still hearing rolling thunder to my SW so theres more than one cell around here firing. Looking at the MET radar we could be looking at a large MCS developing and moving NE in the next few hours.
  3. Going very dark here, can hear what sounds like deep rolling thunder to my SW Lightning IC type just observed @D
  4. Electrical activity hopefully will increase as the suns gonna be up soon to heat things up. Been watching the rainfall increase for the last couple of hours as it moved NE from the coast. Dropping some very large totals.
  5. Thing to note on why the trough has re-appeared on the MET fax charts is a new surface low which has developed over northern france, which wasn't there earlier. This bodes very well in my opinion for seeing more in the way of thundery activity as the low pressure redevelops the trough over the SE and keeps the front stationary, or pushes it back further westrwards. This will allow a longer peroid for the sytems to interact and feed off the warm humid airmass. Dare I say it, but it could turn out to be alot more electrified than first thought
  6. Looking at the various charts and atmospheric conditions. The rain indeed looks convective with embedded thundery outbreaks. This looks like a classic example of elevated convection taking place as the front is envigorated by the warm humid airmass being advected from the SE and interacting with the stalled front. In these situations heavy thundery rain and possibly stronger isolated cells don't require huge ammounts of cape for iniation.
  7. Lots more hard edged solid looking convection going up inti the sky here. Off to the NW it's looking very black again, could I be in for storm number 2??
  8. Just had a mad little storm that lasted 30mins here in MK, lovely backsheared anvil with nice mammatus. I thought it was all over before it had arrived to be honest, heard 20-30 deep booms in the distance. Sky however turned black and dropped 5 mins of heavy rain which turned into pea sized hail. As the lower base started to clear all i could see was the anvil above me lit up by the sun, then we got some huge cracks of thunder from IC's which arced from the anvil accross the lower base. Have to say, best storm this year so far
  9. That was cool, nice little storm just rattled through. dropped some heavy rain and a few close overhead ic's. Only 1 sec gap between flashes and nice crisp air splitting thunder. 2nd storm today so alls good
  10. New storms going up near MK, one to the west one to the NE, can hear thunder from both now.
  11. not doing much, very dark and i could see somw nice mammatus through a small break in the base, couple of torrential rainburst and a large overhead IC strike, apart from that it looks to be decaying tbh.
  12. lol im not, all the storms in the last two years have been fairly cack, last really good storm was 4th july 06 having said that the northampton storm is bearing down, sky looks evil now, a deep grey / navy blue color.
  13. Can hear deep booming thunder off in the distance now
  14. Gone dark here again and pouring with rain. winds gusty and swirling about. no thunder yet from it though, could change at anytime.
  15. Didn't find it cold though jamie when i went out to the shops around 12pm, just cool, but at the same time very sticky and humid with a warmish wind.
  16. Weather here has been a bit nuts since 11am, sporadic rain and loud booming thunder on and off. Thought it had cleared, but just had another 2 big crashes. Oddly the skies not very dark here and haven't seen any lightning either, so im guessing its really elevated.
  17. Small storm just passed through MK, few rumbles and has moved off towards luton area. Hoping to see some more, cause to be honest it was total pants.
  18. Hmmm i have my headphone on low as not to annoy friend who's visiting. Im pretty sure i keep hearling low growling thunder from somewhere, skies don't look all that dark at the moment and all we've had so far today has been a couple of medium showers
  19. Cool, so it's not dead and buried yet then, might pep up a bit, sunrise in an hour
  20. Looking at the IOW detector I'd say the fat lady has sung, the electrical activity is slowly moving away to the SE, following the surface low in france. most folks are just going to see some rain from the left over outflow. Just my opinion but this looks most likely now to be honest.
  21. Don't think it's over yet, IOW plotter still showing average of 8-16strikes per min. Things might get going again more intemsly once the two mcs collide and start feeding from one another.
  22. Any thoughts if it'll make it this far north of london and hit MK, don't wanna sit up all night again for a big old no show. lol
  23. I realy need to stop playing world of warcraft so much, didn't even know there'd been a volcanic eruption
  24. lol i just noticed it's gone midnight and theres 211 people viewing this thread. Nothing like the prospect of a good MCS to keep people up XD
  25. Its down to either high levels of pollution in the stagnant humid air, or there are microscopic sand particles in the atmospere that have come from northern africa / sahara. If it rains and then everything has a thin coating of dust it'll be sand particles.
