  1. Thunder rumbling away to the south west & north east of MK in the last 15mins, heavy line of convection seems to have split as it approached MK, one cells to my south over Buckingham the others gone north towards Olney
  2. Very dark to the south of MK from that discrete cell which built over Bicester area. Well developed now as it approaces Dunstable / Luton. Wouldn't be suprised to see it start dropping sferics anytime soon.
  3. Brief heavy shower just raced through dropping pea sized hail stones, no lightning or thunder & the suns back out.
  4. Just had a torrential rain shower 20mins ago. No thunder from it though as it looked thundery, bit of a disapointment again. Anything electrical is to the south by 30miles
  5. Suns been out here for the last hour, temp is rising and I can see big TCu's going up all over the place. Storms Initiating to my SE around NW London, so hopefully there's a chance of something kicking off round here soon.
  6. Heading my way Vince? Not had any thunder, but recieved some pea sized hail in a torrential downpour 15mins ago. Sky to the SW over buckingham out towards Bicester is black and menacing.
  7. Pitch black here in CMK under a heavy shower dropping pea sized hail stones, no lightning ir thunder yet
  8. Got some very heavy showers in the vicinity after 40mins of sunny intervals. The clouds are turning dark greyish blue with lots of ragged scud at low levels. Starting to look very stormy, just waiting for it to go bang.
  9. Snowing now in CMK, Light but getting heavier, flakes are around 5mm atm & growing
  10. Light snow flurries in the center of MK for 30mins, mostly snizzle grains, but the odd larger flake too. Looking good for later on & tonight
  11. About 8-10CM of lying snow at Campbell Park in MK and still snowing, Precipitation is moving more slowly eastwards than earlier so maybe another hour or two to go before it peters out here, so 6inches in old money looks likely before the fat lady sings
  12. Odd light flurry falling in the center of MK. Knocking on the door now, heavier stuff only 30mins away. Looks pretty good as temps & dew point are both below freezing
  13. Still looks pretty good on the models for this neck of the woods regarding the snow. It snowed in MK the other afternoon when we were only supposed to get rain showers, only briefly and wet but it was still snow. In this kind of setup you have to take into consideration the cooling effect on the atmosphere from falling precipitation. One or two degrees of cooling may see a lot more wide spread snowfall than expected or forecast by the models.
  14. Just been snowing in central MK about 110m asl. Started of as rain but quickly turned to snow and has left a slushy dusting on all surfaces, keeps switching from snow to sleet then back to rain so the atmosphere must be on a knife edge at the minute,
  15. Just had a great storm here in MK, started off with pea sized hail, then the light rain started. Lots of CC and IC and as it cleared away I could hear a passenger jet flying through the cloud at the back edge of the anvil. 10 secs later a huge double CG flew out on hit less than a mile away. The thunder was huge and shook the house. Judging by how loud it was and the pinkish colour I think the plane triggered a positive CG strike. Best sounding thunderstorm of the whole year
  16. First storms is moving away to the Ne and northants area. Appears to be two cells developing to the SW of MK, heard a couple of rumbles from that direction and the sky is looking very dark over there. I think storm no:2 is heading for MK, they are like buses, none for ages then they come all at once.
  17. Rains just about stopped here now, 3 rumbles and a nice soaking, Getting reports from a friend saying it's just kicked off in Aylesbury down the road. Toreential rain / hail, frequent lightning and contonous rumbling thunder again. My lights keep flickering in the center of MK, hopefully it's an omen. Not seen them do that for a long time. lol
  18. Had a couple of runbles of thunder in MK in the last 30mins with some moderately heavy rain , sky all around is pitch black and thundery looking though now. Hoping it'll kick off and it's just the start
  19. thunder heard in cmk to my south, sky has gone stirmy uniform grey and dark, mid level cloud base so it appears to be elevated
  20. Do you think anything will push up towards Dunstable / MK area paul where you were located yesterday? If so I will give my mate a call whos off work soon and head up on top of the downs for a good vantage point. Worst that can happen is we get wet and have a couple of 99's from the cafe at the top.
  21. Well the sky keeps changing from light to dark with sporadic spots of heavy convective rainfall, mostly it appears to be evaporating before getting to ground level. Managed to see some towering cumulus through a gap in the lower cloud base towards Northampton way so convection does seem to be trying to initiate still.
  22. More pages of doom casting I see happening over & over again. Latest forcast I have just seen on bbc news 24 said highly elevated storms forming during the evening into the early hours from the wash sw towards southampton. The emphasis on his forecast saying they'd be highly elevated with not much rain getting to ground level, but a lot of lightning present. This indicates the trough will start to destabilise the mid levels and moist plume currently in place over the se & ea. Latest Met rainfall plot shows something appears to be kicking off in a line to the west / nw of london more or less up the M40 / M1 corridors. Sky here is getting very dark as i type & the winds dropped
  23. Still overcast here with a high cirrus layer, but signs of mid level activity starting. There's a lot of lower cumulus forming, some quite large with darkening bases in areas. It feels and looks very stormy now, a day where one minute there is nothing then all hell brakes loose.
  24. Complete cirrus cover here now for the last 30mins. Winds getting a little gusty, but if this cirrus sheet doesn't shift I'm not expecting and home grown storms to initiate now. Eyes will be down towards France to see what we might import this evening.
  25. If it comes off with high -Li and huge Cape values and storms that develop are going to be very severe to what we are used to in the UK. There is enough energy to sustain supercells, but it's all dependant on how sheared the environment is on the day. With low shear we'll be seeing strong multicells with large hail and alot of rainfall that could cause flash flooding.
