  1. Think the cap in our area needed around the 29'c mark, so not far off that now, sitting around 28'c in CMK at the minute, just hope the Ac towers don't stop the temp rising further.
  2. Very warm & still dry in MK, some patches of Ac every so often. It's the humidity that's the killer at the minute, you only have to move and your dripping. BBC & the Meto show a cluster of strong storms over the midlands, Oxford to Luton all the way towards Leicester area this afternoon. Certainly feels like it's going to go bang, just hope the storms running up through Sussex don't go ape and spread a cirrus sheet everywhere killing off chances here.
  3. Few flashes & rumbles of thunder in MK, with bursts of torrential rain and squally winds, more thundery rain than a proper storm situation.
  4. Just had a phonecall from my friend who lives on Beanhill in MK, he was walking back from the shop and a huge CG came down 150yrds away and struck 3 houses in the next road, apparently the fire brigade are on scene because there's atleast two roofs on fire. Here in the center of MK had torrential rain, hail the size of 5 pence pieces and constant loud thunder from CC bolts, the odd window rattling CG strike also. The outflow from ahead of the strom was very intense also, 45mph gusts and scud cloud flying all over the place.
  5. ig storm about to move into MK from Buckingham / Winslow area, was moving south to north but in the last 40mins it's jumping eastwards with a well defined precipitation core at the south east edge which is holding strength at 250mm per hour, gonna keep a close eye on it, no hook echo yet but it may be a meso cyclone forming hence the sudden easterly movement.
  6. That'll be the storm that flirted with MK pushing north, was a bit like a cheap tart, looked good but didn't produce the goods. Dark atm to my south as another cell develops at the back end of your storm.
  7. Raining heavily in the center of MK now, main storm is to the NW, but more thunder heard from the south, another cell forming to the SE of the main storm I think.
  8. Main storm is towards the west & northwest still, hearing sporadic thunder, but the clouds really do look odd here at the minute, low level stuff moving all over the place and against the southerly wind flow. Seems to die off a little then gains strength in another area close to where sferics are occuring.
  9. God dammit, huge storm that was moving NE towards MK has decided to track due north now and sitting to our west by 10 miles, I swear these storms can read read road signs, as soon as they see MK mentioned the head off elsewhere edit. huge crash of thunder from nowhere, it's building on top of us from the west, nearly pooped my pants then, wasn't expecting it
  10. lol my mistake, it's actually north of reading heading NE through Oxfordshire / Bucks border. I said Marlow because it was the only place near to the shower I could see on the map
  11. Shower producing sferics around Marlow south bucks looks good at the minute. Hopefully reach here in an hour or two if it doesn't die off, moving very slowly so a little worried about the heavy rain killing the inflow.
  12. Explosive towering cumulus erupting in a matter of 5 mins to the south of MK after the first shower passed through. Been calm all day but now the sky seems very active, clouds bubbling up and exploding all over the place. Very odd this late in the day,
  13. Large well defined CB with glaciated anvil heading up towards MK, very low dark cloud base beneath. Looks to be an isolated cell developing, not heard any thunder but the rain rate on radar looks pretty impressive.
  14. Bugger all here today apart from a brief shower around 11am. Something maybe brewing to the SW though looking at the radar and view outside. Can only hope, been watching the sferics all day all over the country, like watching acne break out on a teenagers face
  15. Sky to the north of MK is black as hell, looking at the charts there a line of storms running west to east, sure I could hear thunder a while ago coming from over olney / northampton way which is around 14-15 miles away. Is that possible to hear it that far off? I thought it was the idiots upstairs banging about to start with until I went outside for a look.
  16. Pitch black to the NW of MK, looks like a storm building and heading this way, no lightning seen yet, but looks nasty on radar.
  17. Another torrential spell of rain in CMK, where I once had a lawn it's been replaced by a small lake. lol
  18. Another arc of cells building to the south & south east of MK at the minute gaining strength, think they may merge to form another storm looking at them, well defined convection with high tops.
  19. five or six rumbles, torrential rain and it's moved off towards silverstone, just in time for the qualifying shootout. should be fun to watch. just left with moderate rain falling from mid level cumulus now. over before the fat lady even got singing.
  20. Storm brewing around MK at the minute, just had torrential rain, droplets the size of 5 pence pieces, eased of a little but hearing sporadic rumbles of thunder for 5 mins or so, seen 3 CC flashes as well.
  21. Went out this evening around 6:30PM up to brickhill to walk my uncles dog and could see a line of really defined strong convection to the north of MK, was running all the way from the NE down to the SW so possibly the cold front. Sat up on the hill in great brickhill until after the sunset watching the cloud tops illuminating in the setting sun, with crepular rays peeking over the top, looked amazing, just miffed I didn't have my camera with me at the time.
  22. I can agree totally with that UKSupercell, in MK most of the storms either form directly overhead with a few rumbles and move away quickly before reaching maturity. Or move across northants and out towards linc or come up from the south and bounce off the chilterns keeping them over luton and bedfordshire. The last truly large storm here was the summer of 2006 when the UK record temp was breached.
  23. Some large towering cumulus building around these parts an hour ago, mid level upwards and nothing it looked like rooted in the boundary layer. Winds picked up from the southwest significantly now and it feels like a hairdryer blowing full whack in your face. Currently 26.4'c dewpoint of 21'c and humidity at 89%, pretty unbearable right now.
  24. Rain is slowly starting to pep up as it moves across towards the theta plume, evident in the last hour if you watch the rainfall radar.
  25. The GFS 06:00 MLCAPE & -Li is certainly some serious eye candy for Thursday, 2800-3000 J/Kg & -8 Li. If it's correct then the south & east are in for some insane storms with very large hail. Not sure if the dynamics are in place for supercell storms as i've not seen the ascents yet or wind profiles. Perhaps someone with more knowledge could confirm what is happening to send the GFS into GaGa mode, advection of theta plume maybe?
