Is anybody keeping an eye on the north sea satellite? Seems to be some development over the last hour, might be nothing, next few hours will tell one way or another. https://en.sat24.com/en/gb/visual

Yorkshire and Lincolnshire - Weather Chat

M62 J24 seems to be where about its at at the moment. -
Well another storm underway. Like many others, I use this page http://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/aurora-forecast-northern-hemisphere.png linked from spaceweather.com. But I want to ask, why does the red viewing line never seem drop below 60° south over the uk but happily does as it passes over the Atlantic and into the Usa?

Thanks Cold, I was fearing what you confirmed, about the A171 also being a tricky road. Radio York and Radar watching it will be. Craig.

Good afternoon all, Tomorrow, I need to travel from Leeds to Whitby for a funeral. I plan on going to Scarborough then up the A171 in the hope of avoiding the snowy routes from Pickering over the North York Moors in the event of any heavy showers hitting tonight. Will this be the best way to go? Does the A171 tend to be less snowy? I've never gone this way before and don't know the area. If anybody can advise I would be very grateful. Craig.

Good morning all! The 9am satrep shows a couple of troughs and their projected track. Looks interesting for some parts of our region again later today- http://www.knmi.nl/data/satrep/archive/KNMI/LOC/LOC_20150129_0900.png And a great satellite link to see what's happened and what's developing. http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html

I have a small concern over Sundays potential snowfall maybe someone can help clear it up as I am sure its me missing something. I decided to look at the 06z GFS precipitation charts to see where Sundays rain/sleet/snow was coming from. As you can see from the first chart, the precip should be just of the south west coast of Ireland. Looking at the 12 noon Satellite, I can only see some shower clouds in that area. So is this showery area one which is to develop, or am I missing something here? Regards to all, Craig.

Afternoon all. Well, here in West Yorkshire I think sunny and cold is the order for the next few days. Out to the east I think its going to be a different story. I have just noticed something on the latest satrep that is a rare visitor to our shores. Not sure looking at the latest sat loop runs how severe it could be for some lucky buggers but how often do you see one of these forecast to be so near to us????

Just watched the video forecast on the bbc weather site with Liam Dutton. He says that tomorrow morning will bring Snow to low levels in northern england in the morning before turning to rain. But to me with the 2m temps,850's and dewpoints all in positive figures it seems unlikley. I expect that those that live high up may see something early doors but to low levels? With it raining now for a couple of hours here in Leeds I would say that snow is even less likley, especialy as cold air isn't just going to appear from nowhere overnight. The last thing I want is heavy snow on my way home from a night shift feeling very tired only for it to rain and wash it all away before I get up.

Well you are correct, it has turned back to snow and is now moderate. Wasn't too shocked to see snow falling again but what did shock me is that it is just starting to settle on the slush covered road. Intensity will have to keep up or the temp will have to drop below freezing to avoid a slushy Monday morning. Lukily for me though I aint back at work until Wednesday.

Just got back from walking the dog and I have to say its horrible out there! Not been out all day so the feel of the wind was a shock to the system. First shower of the day in this part of Leeds and it was snow but the flakes were on the small side. Still a good depth up on the park so not as much has melted as I earlier thought. Craig.
-
Although I, like most would welcome another top up to replace what has melted today, the precip forecast doesnt look too good. I really can't see where any possible 'event' is going to come from. On the plus side, my son gets to go back to school tomorrow if we don't get much snow and I get a hassle free drive to work in Seacroft on Wednesday.

John, Just listened to the audio forecast on your site and yes, I would say that is pretty much what is happening now. What I cant get my head around is this- You don't mention any heavy prolonged snowfall, the gfs charts on your site don't show any heavy prolonged snowfall. The charts I have been looking at over the last 48 hours haven't and still do not show any heavy and prolonged snowfall. The radar since last night and up to now don't show it either. So why did the tv forecasts yesterday evening and into the early part of the night forecast heavy snow with 10-20cm of fresh snowfall in places? This was then forecast to move northwards. Am I missing something or were the met/bbc forecasters just being a bit ott?

Good afternoon all. Not looking forward to a 12 hr night shift tonight up in the Seacroft area of Leeds. It seemed to me this morning on my way home that not one of the main roads had been treated. With a band of showers forecast to go through our region tonight my worry is that the roads with be covered by morning if they are not treated again. Craig.
